Cpap nasal allergies

Common Questions and Answers about Cpap nasal allergies

cpap

Avatar n tn I have used scores of Prescription antihistamines, decongestants, eye drops, nasal sprays, saline flushes, have reduced CPAP pressures, and used different style mask over the past seven years! These help moderate symptoms, or recover from occurrences, but do not prevent them. > I wish more research would be done in this area.
332074 tn?1229560525 I know that they are going to put me on a cpap machine. I know I would do okay with the mask that is just the two little prongs that go in your nose. However in the past when I have had surgery I have gone crazy when they have put the mask over my mouth and nose. I have always had very bad allergies and can not stand to have anything touching my nose and mouth. So I was wondering how do they determine what is the best mask for you to have?
Avatar m tn I also have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine to sleep at night. I need some help with my allergies, I am suffering with nasal drip on and off all day at work and at night at home. The last allergy tests I had they said I was allergic to mold, mildew and dust. When the humidity is high, I suffer the most. HELP!!!
Avatar f tn You should consider taking care of your nasal congestion first, which will allow you to breathe better and also be able to benefit from CPAP for your sleep apnea. You're right—using a nasal cannula doesn't make sense if your nose is stuffy. See an ENT for your nasal congestion.
Avatar m tn Was given a machine with no humidifier, which was totally useless. Once I got the humidifier added, CPAP eliminated my daytime sleepiness. I wanted to make CPAP work better, tried prescription nasal spray, still only one nostril open. Went on an elimination diet searching for food allergies/sensitivities. Bingo. Eliminated two very common foods, and both my nostrils are now wide open with no blockage. I kept getting periodic sinus infections from the CPAP.
5054005 tn?1362922551 My CPAP mask bothers me in the morning. I guess its when I start waking up a little and the mask will get a gap in it from the way I move and make a burping sound. Then that's it I cant go back to sleep unless I take it off. Anyone else?
Avatar f tn I just started using my CPAP with a swift nasal mask 3 weeks ago and you just described my systems to a tee. I am miserable. I have been taking Sudafed when I wake up and it has helped but I can't do this forever. There must be a simple solution to this problem that so many users are experiencing...
Avatar f tn I am 64 with copd and sleep apnea also. I use a cpap at night with 2 liters oxygen. I use several inhalers. The cpap is designed to push the air in your lungs to keep you from dieing when you stop breathing in your sleep. It also makes your lungs stronger because it forces them to work on a deeper level. How long have you been using a cpap? Do you get along with it ok? I have had mine since November.
Avatar n tn Mainly all obstructive apneas, but also a few central apneas. Since then I have started using a CPAP machine, with a nasal mask on a setting of 9. I have allergies, so many nights I find it very hard to breathe, to the point of noticing when I wake up in the morning I have taken the mask off. I have used some nasal sprays on occasion to see if it will help me wear the mask all night, and if I will feel better as a result. I haven't seen an significant differences.
1173253 tn?1263496613 I am not sleeping as I keep taking off the CPAP to blow my nose or to cough. Could I be allergic to the CPAP, or the dirt or germs in the tubing, or to the air that is sucked in thru the CPAP? No matter how good I feel in the day.....I get worse at night? Help Please.
Avatar n tn Sjogren’s syndrome causes dryness of mouth and salty taste. Post nasal drainage as seen in allergies and sinusitis is another cause. Using a CPAP machine can also cause salty taste as it causes dryness of the mouth. Ask for some adjustment in the machine to overcome this, if you use one. Endocrine disorders, anti thyroid medicines and chemotherapy drugs also cause a salty taste in mouth. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar n tn ve tried to use CPAP for more than a year with no success, using full mask, nasal mask or nasal pillows with chin strap. They either keep me from falling asleep, or I can't get them easily reseated without leaks if I have to get out of bed during the night. I also have trouble keeping the headgear/chin strap in place even when it's correctly adjusted; it slips off my head. I have to over-tighten it; not only uncomfortable, but it irritates my skin. Have you tried CPAP Pro?
Avatar m tn re in a dust-laden environment, then naturally, the hairs in your nostrils will trap the dust. But if you have allergies or any other nasal condition that causes mucous production, then this needs to be addressed. If you have trouble breathing, see you doctor or an ENT physician, who should be able to help you. Being able to breathe well through your nose is important if you want CPAP to work well.
1193998 tn?1265117597 Hi try not to worry about CPAP i was the same as you claustrophobic i would get the nasal mask that way to start with get to use CPAP in the daytime to get used to it on face so night time is easy for you. All so what helped me was to have the RAMP low that makes it easy to breath also with the nasal mask you can sleep on your side.......You can ask me anytime just leave me a note i shall get back to you asap...Take Care....
Avatar f tn The tech only brought the nose mask and a nasal pad setup with no humidifier. I tried the nasal pad and it feels like a knife going in my nose.I tried nose gel and spray. Wow, I am not a baby but this hurt. I am calling tomorrow (Monday) to let them know that, first off, I too am a mouth breather, and also need a humidifier. Thank God this first machine and mask is a test of sorts for month. They were worried about this equipment costing so much without a prescription plan.
Avatar f tn Well, sneezing and watery eyes can be due to a reaction to CPAP machine. This machine dries up the eyes and nasal passages which causes irritation, burning and sneezing. You can try a cold water humidifier to start with. If you already have a humidifier and you still experience these symptoms you may need a heated humidifier. In most cases this resolves nasal congestion and irritation if it is caused by CPAP. However, its best to consult your specialist.
967168 tn?1477584489 I have Moderate OSA and haven't been able to tolerate any of the masks I've tried; not even a small nasal piece I tried at the hospital or dr's office. I sleep on my side propped up on 2 pillows plus 1 in front, 1 in back. I think it's because I have major ANS (autonomic nervous system) issues and the masks make me feel like I can't breathe; my HR goes up and I almost faint, as soon as the air goes into the nasal passage I start feeling weird and dizzy.
1767141 tn?1313678474 Which mask(s) have you used? Did you try a full face mask? A nasal cushion or nasal pillows mask w/a chin strap? What is your Leak rate w/the CPAP and APAP. High leaks whether mask leaks or mouth leaks can interfere w/your PAP therapy causing the PAP to provider higher and higher pressure to compensate for the leaks. Were you provided w/an integrated heated humidifier w/your CPAP and APAP? Have you tried adjusting the humidity up or down?
Avatar f tn Have thought it was from bad allergies, sinus, since sometimes I feel that way to a lesser degree during the day as well. Have been tested and have very bad allergies. If I sleep with less than three pillows, it occurs more often. Could this possibly be sleep apnea instead. Definitely calling my doctor and making an appointment. Years ago I was diagnosed with anxiety and have awakened from an anxiety attack with these same feelings. It gets very confusing as to what is going on.
Avatar n tn In most cases this resolves nasal congestion and irritation if it is caused by CPAP. Also if your mother has a deviated nasal septum then also it can cause allergy like symptoms. CPAP machines can also cause air in the stomach-gas and bloating. Lowering the CPAP pressure can help but do not do this without consulting your sleep specialist. Switching over to bilevel pressure or C-Flex may help your mother too. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
