Cpap jaw pain

Common Questions and Answers about Cpap jaw pain

cpap

Avatar f tn Have an honest talk with a reputable provider about your chances of it working for you. They are designed to pull the lower jaw forward, and some complain of pain or have TMJ trouble. But some are willing to do anything to avoid using CPAP. I didn't like CPAP at first either. Are you on oxygen because you aren't using CPAP or with a CPAP? I don't know how long or how hard you've tried, but I suggest you not give up prematurely.
Avatar n tn Anyone aware of a device that a dentist can make and install that extends the jaw forward to help relieve sleep apnea?
Avatar n tn It took me 3 months to adjust the dental devices to reach the optimum lower jaw advancement setting. I have tried both the cpap and TAP and Somnodent dental devices. It took me approx. one year to desensitize myself to the mask let alone to find the right cpap mask (nasal pillows) and pressure setting to alleviate my symptoms. Keep in mind with UARS you need only a lower pressure setting to keep your airway open. If you read Dr. Guilleminualt’s papers on UARS and posts of www.cpaptalk.
1555684 tn?1294434646 Many elected surgery over CPAP and ended up STILL needing CPAP. It takes time for the medical community to get a good picture of a new treatment's long term effectiveness. I would consider the device you mention, but not for a very long time. Since weight is not your issue, you could very well have a jaw structure that is more narrow than what allows comfortable breathing once the tissues relax during sleep.
Avatar m tn Been on the CPAP for the last year. three months ago I had a septoplasty...All went well. Two weeks ago I had UPPP surgery and ever since the first night as soon as I fall asleep I start choking. Seems like even when I'm awake i can take a deep breath through my nose and feel my tonge/throat closing off. I"ve video taped myself sleeping the last few nights and it's happening about every 5 to 10 minutes. I'm choking on the inhale...
Avatar m tn ve lived my life in a state of exhaustion, until use of my cpap machine, and that has often caused very bad seizures. Without my cpap machine, I don't think I'd be here making this post.
Avatar m tn Did not help at all, but made CPAP a little more tolerable. (First few tries with CPAP gave me very bad sinus headaches.) RDI went up a little. CPAP is not working well as I still have a lot of nasal blockage when I lay down. Wake up after about 3-4 hours with a very sore throat. Tried oral appliance. Wake up after a few hours with a stuffed nose. Dentist noticed nasal blockage due to nose injury (football) and referred me to an ENT. Have done 2 RF turbinate reductions.
Avatar m tn To date I am still having significant pain and swelling in my throat; as well as, part of my jaw feels numb. The pain is only controlled with vicodin. The overall feeling is like someone has their hands around my throat causing a choking feeling. Every time I eat, I choke on the food and have to wash it down with a liquid. I talked to someone in my doctor’s office about these symptoms and they advised to give it more time get to get better. Is it normal for the recovery to take this long?
Avatar m tn ENT docs, Otolaryngologists, Internal Medicine/Respirologist, Dentist, and Sleep Disorder doctor. I have tried the CPAP for 2 years (hate it) and I am currently using the mouth-guard (where my jaw is moved forward). My most recent ENT doctor suggested removing my tonsisl and uvula (under the table, overnight in the hospital, anesthesia)...I was told that this post-op, the pain is 10x worse than strep throat...any comments? Should I do this procedure?
Avatar dr m tn I have dental crowding. It causes some disalinement of my teeth. After 4 extractions, one on either side, top and bottom my teeth have closed the gap. I don't know if this is relevant but there are times if I open my mouth wide my jaw feels like it is locked. It is several seconds before I can get it to close.
Avatar f tn However, the 2 titration studies I had seemed to have been focused on apnea; the CPAP pressure used only reduced my RERAS to 12/hr hour, and the sleep fragmentation was worse than my diagnostic study. I have used CPAP faithfully for 3 months, trying every setting from 5 to 9 cm. None of these pressures restore my sleep - I am waking every hour or so and feeling as tired as ever.
Avatar m tn If I skip a night the soreness is gone the next morning. The past couple nights by three AM the soreness/pain is bothering me enough that I put the CPAP aside for the rest of the night. What I would like to know whether this is normal adn whether it will disappear with time or should I be concerned about it and cease using the CPCP. I spoke with the folks at the store where I got the machine and they say that they have not heard of issues like this.
Avatar n tn I have severe asthma AND VCD. I was recently started on CPAP for a mild case of sleep apnea. I hate it! I can't breathe with the machine on and it gives me headaches. I'm not sleeping any better with it than I was without it. I'm still waking up at least once per night needing to do a neb treatment. I also have fibromyalgia and PD, so I'm up several times per night due to pain, which the CPAP doesn't help.
721511 tn?1230593710 Muscular pain when first using CPAP has been reported by some, Others report chest and back pain from air going into the digestive system. CPAP should not cause pain, shortness of breath, and dizziness during the daytime. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about checking your respiratory and cardiac function. I kept getting symptoms assumed to be cardiac and turned out to be respiratory related with decreased lung function. Good luck on finding answers.
Avatar f tn I've been using a cpap machine for over a year but recently I've been waking with severe lung ache !! its almost like I'm winded i can hardly move with the pain I'm worried this might b a side affect to the pressure on my machine being to high ...
Avatar f tn My husband has a CPAP which helps him breathe but he hates it ... like really HATES this machine. He says it is very difficult for him to sleep with the nose mask on (and especially when he has a cold, but who sleeps well with a cold after all). However when he tries to sleep without the CPAP, he wakes and snores so much and so loud, he doesn't really sleep at all (during his sleep test, they determined he woke between 75-90 times per night). This has been going on for over 2 years.
1546631 tn?1321643204 Hi...I also used to clench my jaw, had my dentist check me for TMJD and did not have it. I know I did it more when stressed or cold....and it made my HA's worse. I noticed I do not do this nemore since my surgery. If u have TMJD it is possible that u could have a joint dysfunction as a result of EDS or JHS....do talk to ur Dr and have them check u for these.
Avatar m tn I started using CPAP therapy December 7th. I started having problems within a week. I have severe pain in all of my joints, but especially in my hands, shoulders, hips and knees. They all feel very swollen. Each morning the problem is worse and during the day improves somewhat. I stopped using the machine and after one day the pain is reduced considerably. I also weigh myself every morning. I noticed I had gained over 6 pounds since starting CPAP.
Avatar m tn Wondering if you are waking yourself up because of not breathing and the sleep apnea. I do that sometimes. Have you tried one of those dental appliances that pull your jaw forward? I can't tolerate cpap either and have had decent results with the dental appliance. I doubt with your apnea they will give you xanax. It relaxes your muscles, slows down breathing and can make apneas worse.
Avatar n tn I'm a 37 y.o. female with sleep apnea and I am fully compliant with wearing my CPAP. Over the last two months, I've had three seperate episodes of waking from sleep and being actively choking. It feels to me like I'm choking on saliva however the episodes were quite serious in my opinion because when I wake it takes me a good few minutes to gain control and clear my airway. Its very upsetting when it happens because it requires a lot of effort to regain control of my breathing.
Avatar m tn I agree with CarrerLady. This is the problem with UARS. It's how it's diagnosed on a formal sleep study. An apnea or hypopnea is any stoppage in breathing that's 10 seconds or longer, but if you stop breathing and wake up anywhere from 1-9 seconds, then it's not counted as an apnea or hypopnea. You have the expected high arousal index. Some of these will be RERAs (respiratory event related arousals) and others will be labeled as non-respiratory related.
Avatar n tn m dying for help I took 100mg serequel ( Atypical-antipsycotic) on and off for 10 years. Last year I reported to my doctor that I was waking up with jaw chewing movements, arm and leg movements ect. He took me off serequel and everything was good. Continued to take 40 mg celexa (ssri antidepressant) . 5 months ago I started dropping my jaw when stressed and focusing and concentrating. Doc said nothing to do with Celexa..go get looked at by family doc.
Avatar f tn I frequently feel like the area under my jaw is sore (lymph nodes?) and constantly have sores/slits/pain in my mouth, tongue, back of throat, cheeks. I do have slight vitamin d deficiency and anemia that is controlled with vitamins. Also in the last few weeks, I've had a pinching pain in my upper left abdomen under my rib area. Sometimes I feel the pain a little lower in my left side and then also in my lower left back.
712042 tn?1254569209 I'm looking for pearls of wisdom, advice and general 'user' comments on CPAP.I'm newly diagnosed with sleep apnea, and more importantly long and frequent episodes of decreased oxygen due to airway obstruction. I didn't know I had an apnea problem. I am now on day 11 of CPAP use at pre-set minimum of 5 lbs pressure which auto adjusts higher as needed. And nothing goes with this new sleep outfit! Any thoughts? Joan.
Avatar m tn As my teeth move straight, my jaw would move forward. But as they move my jaw so its curved out, maybe my chin will be in further than it is now. Also, does anyone know how my ortho is going to pull the teeth out? Dont understand how braces on my teeth are going to force my teeth and jaw to widen. Unless I'll have to wear head gear at night and that will pull my teeth out. I'll have to ask my ortho next time I see him. Maybe someone here knows.
Avatar f tn I am always tired, Actually, I sleep very poorly due to chronic back pain In addition, I have asthma and clinically depressed. I have no health insurance and am unemployed. Is this something I should seriously think about having done?
