Avatar m tn Good choice
Avatar n tn May or may not be related to your CPAP. Use a lubricating gel at bedtime in both eyes (e.g. Refresh-PM or Liquigel). Talk to your MD about having CPAP technicians work with you to get best model and the most ideal settings.
Avatar f tn Also, I am having a machine delivered and set up by a tech in 2 days. Which machine is easiest to handle. I have heard horror stories about CPAP. The main problem was the fact that the air is blowing back at your nose when trying to exhale. Can't this be adjusted. Help me to know what to expect and which machine is best.
Avatar m tn Ask for some adjustment in the machine to overcome this. CPAP machines can also cause air in the stomach-gas and bloating. Lowering the CPAP pressure can help but do not do this without consulting your sleep specialist. Switching over to bilevel pressure or C-Flex may help you too. However, nothing should be tried without consulting the specialist. If nausea is not related to CPAP machine, then other causes will have to be looked into. Commonest cause of nausea is acidity.
Avatar m tn The treatment is turn off the fan, humidify the bedroom and put a lubricating gel in both eyes at bedtime (e.g. Genteal gel, Refresh Liquigel, Refresh PM) On awakening put in a set of regular eye drops (e.g.
Avatar m tn People that sleep with CPAP for sleep apnea. If that is you use a lubricating gel at bedtime every night 3. People that have scratched their cornea and it has not healed properly (recurrent corneal erosion) Use lubricating gel (not regular tears) every night for minimum 4-6 months. 4, People that sleep with eye partially open (previous eyelid surgery, previous facial paralysis (stroke, bell's palsy) Rx same gel or lubricating ointment at betime.
Avatar f tn t have a fan running in the bedroom or a heat/cooling vent blowing on your face. 2. Use an overnight lubricant each and every night like Refresh PM or other GEL lubricant.
Avatar n tn m assuming you do not have sleep apnea and have to wear a CPAP as that can cause it.
Avatar m tn Suggest you use a lubricating gel at bedtime (Refresh Liquigel, Systane PM, Blink Gel) needs to be thick gel to last all night. These would all be good places to start and every 10 minutes look away from your computer, stare off into the distance and blink hard 6-8 times.
1193998 tn?1265117597 My pulmonologist is having me try a month of Flonase and serious dedication to weight loss before trying the CPAP. (Pardon me if you hear me laughing - I've been SERIOUSLY trying to lose 15 lbs. that abruptly appeared out of nowhere after I hit menopause last year, so good luck with losing it in a month, but that's another rant...) Has anyone had surgical correction of the soft palate, and has it been successful?
Avatar f tn t sleep under a fan and at bedtime put an over the courter gel lubricant like Genteal GEL, Systane PM, or Liquifilm GEL in both eyes at bedtime.
Avatar n tn If its a big problem turn off the fan (if you have one) and use a lubricating gel in both eyes at bedtime (example Genteal Gel, Refresh Liquigel, Systane gel) gels are thick and will last the night. Regular artificial tears won't last but about 4 hours.
1054090 tn?1343965695 If you do have sleep apnea, the treatment is that you will sleep with a CPAP machine. It stands for Continuos Positive Air Pressure. You wear a mask that blows air down your passages to keep them from closing when you sleep. Cause when they close is when you stop breathing. Id it is determined you have sleep apnea it is vital that you wear the cpap eveytime!! You can die from sleep apnea just as easily as a baby can die from sids.
1218873 tn?1300091216 I have a CPAP machine on a months trial, this is one that varies the pressure as required it records the information on to an SD card so when I return to the clinic I will then be given a machine that has the correct fixed pressure. I have a full face mask as I could not get on with the nose only one. Now my problem is I wake in the middle of the night with a very dry mouth (i mean completely dry) my mouth has ballooned with air and the mask is vibrating against my face.
1218873 tn?1300091216 Ok - so I went for the follow up appointment at the sleep apnea clinc and they have given me a humidifier for the Cpap machine, so hopefully this will reduce the dryness. They also read the SD card which had been recording the pressures that I had required over the last 3 weeks. They were quite suprised at how high they were. But also found that the machine was set up for a nasal mask not a face mask.
Avatar n tn Hello, You can be allergic to the material of the mask of the CPAP machine. If allergic to silicone, try a mask made from materials like synthetic rubber or vinyl. Several masks on the market now are made out of gel-like material. Nasal pillows are another option. Instead of wearing a triangular mask, the user inserts into the nostrils two small flexible pieces (shaped somewhat like mushroom caps) that are attached to a plastic adapter that is in turn attached to the tubing.
439553 tn?1210776816 Will i more than likely get a CPAP mask to help me sleep? Has anyone else had this same thing happen to them? What do you think the possible treatment will be? i am just tired of being tired all the time. i want a normal life back!
Avatar m tn I had the turbinate reduction a year and a half ago. I haven't had the issues you've had, but for dryness, have you tried saline nasal gel? It's like a spray, but in gel form. It could also be that the steroids and antihistamines dry you out too much. There are good allergy nasal sprays that can really help. Have you seen an allergist? What about a humidifier for your bedroom? Get a cool mist one. Also, how old is your pillow? Maybe it's time for a new one.
Avatar f tn Diesel stayed home, she has not been airplane trained yet and I had my hands full with CPAP gear and backpack and they checked my suitcase (gleefully looking at $$ signs) and my walker was checked free all the way thru and bagged in plastic! Hope everyone has a good week, I just got in last night so haven't had a chance to read posts yet. Lemtrada is looking like fall for me, they called while I was in flight and are sending paperwork to fill out.
233622 tn?1279334905 Welcome to the club. CPAP made a tremendous difference for me in terms of the quality of my sleep. I think it's been two years or so. I do have OSA. I've never really understood the difference between hypopnea and obstructive sleep apnea. I think I understand central sleep apnea, and to be honest, I'm surprised more MS patients don't mention that. I'm sure our friend Dr. Park could add some clarification here, if he reads this forum regularly.
Avatar n tn He said that it was very dry because I opened my eyes while sleeping. And CPAP might cause my eye very dry that caused real pain. So I wore the eye sleeping patch but the pain occurred under the patch. This week one early morning I removed my CPAP when I needed to go to the pot. I went back to bed but I did not put CPAP back. I went back to sleep. Two hours later the pain stabbed my eyeball and this time I was aware when it hurt before I opened my eyelids.
Avatar n tn i just went for my second sleep study to be hooked up to the cpap. the first one said i quit breathing and was breathing very shallow. once i get my new machine how long will it take to be back to 100%. i could tell the morning after that i did feel a little better and did not have a headaache.

332074 tn?1229560525 I know that they are going to put me on a cpap machine. I know I would do okay with the mask that is just the two little prongs that go in your nose. However in the past when I have had surgery I have gone crazy when they have put the mask over my mouth and nose. I have always had very bad allergies and can not stand to have anything touching my nose and mouth. So I was wondering how do they determine what is the best mask for you to have?
Avatar n tn My wife uses a cpap machine with moisture every night. She has had two bouts with pneumonia this winter which she never had before using the cpap machine. Questions: Can breathing in excess moist air into the lungs by means of the cpap machine overload the lungs with moisture and cause problems?
Avatar f tn Shhhhhhh - your brain and body are listening. Give yourself some positive self talk, such as... I can do ANYTHING for just 30 days. Sleeping in my own home and bed will be nothing like in that lab. I'm going to take advantage of this change to get 30 days of real quality sleep. I'm glad that CPAP increases my likelihood of a good surgical outcome and recovery. I'm glad the next 30 days I will be at reduced risk of heart attack and stroke.
