1580703 tn?1651904887 Dear Doctor, thanks very much for your help!!!! I had trach surgery and am in pain, bleeding and exhausted, light-headed after the surgery. I'm a large person and and I was given a shiley 6 which is too small and percocet. is that normal to be so tired?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with sleep apnea 4 years ago, and since then have used a CPAP S8 model everynight. I have noticed over the last year that i am suffering from aerophagia, caused by the CPAP. While i may have bloating, tummy pains and rumbling of gas moving in my intestines etc, i have also been diagnosed with high protein in the urine, doctors say is caused by damage to the kidney, letting more albumin out than usual. They attribute this damage to the high blood pressure i am suffering.
Avatar m tn This machine dries up the eyes and nasal passages which causes irritation, burning and sneezing. However pulmonary fibrosis cannot be due to CPAP use. Alternatively uses of CPAP mask in pulmonary fibrosis can cause claustrophobia like symptoms. Lung scarring occurs due to pathological deposition of fibrous tissue. This is a progressive disease usually and hence needs frequent periodic monitoring.
Avatar f tn I had a sleep study that showed hypoventilation and elevated CO2. I was given a CPAP but am unable to tolerate it even after different masks etc. I do have a lot of shortness of breath with exertion and experience a lot of air hunger at night. Sometimes I have to get up in the middle of the night to try and relieve the air hunger and shortness of breath. The results are as follows: No mediastinal, hilar or axillary adenopathy. left infrahilar calcified lymph node is seen.
Avatar n tn My husband has been on a cpap machine for a year now. In the past three or four months he has developed a large amount of mucus and slime in his throat and head. To the point that it makes him vomit every morning and now it is getting to happening sometimes in the course of the day. He has had tests to try to find the problem but have come up with nothing so was wondering if it could be from the cpap machine. Has anyone else had this problem ? We are desperate so please help if you can.
Avatar n tn In most cases this resolves nasal congestion and irritation if it is caused by CPAP. CPAP machines can cause air in the stomach-gas and bloating. Sleeping with head aligned with the body helps. If you want a raised head then the head end of the bed should be raised. Pillows should be kept to the minimum. Lowering the CPAP pressure can help but do not do this without consulting your sleep specialist. Switching over to bilevel pressure or C-Flex may help you too. So ask your specialist about it.
Avatar f tn I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP. I've noticed that in the morning when I wake up that I'm very bloated. Is it possible that I'm swallowing air from the CPAP? It's not gas. Also, I'm still soooooooooo tired when I wake up.
569790 tn?1219256470 Not related to meals, eating or not eating. just comes on. I am on CPAP, so wonder about air swallowing, but have been on CPAP for 4 years. Very scarey and uncomfortable. Frustrated, doctor last year sent me to GI specialist who could not find anything. Now I have it back. On metamucil for chronic constipation, irrltable bowel syndrome, but why all of the sudden stomach is rock hard for days. Sleep interrupted, clothes don't fit. I do not drink.
Avatar m tn Ask for some adjustment in the machine to overcome this. CPAP machines can also cause air in the stomach-gas and bloating. Lowering the CPAP pressure can help but do not do this without consulting your sleep specialist. Switching over to bilevel pressure or C-Flex may help you too. However, nothing should be tried without consulting the specialist. If nausea is not related to CPAP machine, then other causes will have to be looked into. Commonest cause of nausea is acidity.
Avatar n tn I need to know after a tracheotomy has been performed what implications does this have on respiration? How does this change inhalation, exhalation, gas exchange, and the muscles and structures involoved?
Avatar m tn I am extremely far sighted with astigmatism. Currently I wear gas permeable contacts corrected to 20/40. Just taking a driving eye test is extremely stressful. Multifocal lens for RLE are not made strong enough for my prescription and monofocal lens ( which he has recommended) he says go up to a 36. I would be a 36 in the left eye and a 37 in the right eye... So I would need touch up with lisik in the right eye for sure.
Avatar f tn Anyway should i not be wearing ear plugs using a cpap? And or should i discontinue the cpap until the ear infection is gone? Or is maybe the machine just set entirely too high? Like i said the machine forces me to sleep in minutes and also for the duration of the ear infection i wont wear ear plugs. Would this cpap issue have the ability to be fatal?
1611319 tn?1378618399 I am wondering if CPAP or Oxygen level is making me worse? or has CPAP played a part in the cause from the beginning. My Respiratory Doctor is also an ER doctor and has not been in his office, I have to wait till June 4th for resluts and a Game Plane! I have considered going to ER just to see him. Or City is short on these doctors and one has been having health issues himself and is out. So I cannot go to another. These are my most recent labs including thyroid stuff.
Avatar f tn My current doctor who specializes in Uveitis did a Pars Plana Vitrectomy with a gas fluid exchange and a Kenalog injection a little over six months ago due to (from what I understand) a build-up of the white blood cells caused by the Pars Planitis that have elevated my retina and was it bleeding. About a month and a half ago I again had to have another surgery, this time it was a Vitrectomy with another gas fluid exchange due to my retina detaching caused by the first surgery.
Avatar f tn Is a lung ct or X-ray enough for a diagnosis or would a gas exchange test or a lung biopsy be needed? Also what are the symptoms and what would the tests be?
Avatar f tn I've been on a CPAP for 2 1/2 weeks. I'm sleeping relatively well with it, 7-8 hours per night. Almost every day since I've had the CPAP I've had headaches. The headaches don't start when I get up, but rather a few hours later in the day. Earlier this week I saw my doctor for a check up and told him about these headaches, and he said they were real and probably caused by pressure on the brain.
Avatar m tn A particularly bad night would leave by heart skipping for days. A sleep study and CPAP therapy completely cured the problem. Yo umight want to look into breathing problems while you sleep as a cause for your problem.

Avatar m tn Hello today while I was at the gas station here in Mexico, as I was paying the person that pumps the gas I gave himthe money and his hand touched mine which has open skin or peeled skin just above were the cuticle or nail, if his hand had blood or were bleeding would I have any risk, the exchange lasted less than five seconds, or if my skin was fresh, but it seems to be like a couple hours old or maybe a day, would there be a risk for hiv, it just seemed redish but no bleeding
Avatar f tn ve found that using a fully data capable CPAP, one that allows ME to access my therapy data each morning encourages me to continue w/CPAP therapy even when I am having difficulties as the data helps to point out what the difficulties are - most often just too high a leak rate. I've used and been happiest w/the Resmed S8 Elite, then the Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage and then the Resmed S8 VPAP Auto when I needed to be switched to a bi-level PAP due to my COPD.
Avatar f tn Hi Lisa: My husband has sleep apnea, which means he stops breathing for a period of time and the sat. levels drop naturally due to no exchange of air in the lungs. Simple solution was the CPAP. He's been using one for 15 years now and there is no more snoring or sleep apnea. Sounds like you had a sleep study done?
Avatar m tn The most common treatment and arguably the most consistently effective treatment for sleep apnea is the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device. In addition to CPAP, a dentist specializing in sleep disorders can prescribe Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT). It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
