Common Questions and Answers about Cpap equipment provider

cpap

Avatar f tn My husband has a CPAP which helps him breathe but he hates it ... like really HATES this machine. He says it is very difficult for him to sleep with the nose mask on (and especially when he has a cold, but who sleeps well with a cold after all). However when he tries to sleep without the CPAP, he wakes and snores so much and so loud, he doesn't really sleep at all (during his sleep test, they determined he woke between 75-90 times per night). This has been going on for over 2 years.

514349 tn?1272801633 I have other sleep problems, but I have not yet had to go to a CPAP. I understand if I wish to go to a CPAP my doctor requires I do another overnight in hospital (or other sleep study center) CPAP test to determine the best "settings" for me. So far I am CPAP free.
1767141 tn?1313678474 I forgot to ask: do you have a copy of your equipment order (prescription) for both the CPAP and for the APAP?
5054005 tn?1362922551 I made several appointlements with my Durable Medical Equipment provider to go there, and try on a couple of masks before selecting one and trying it. After 8 years, I'm about to start my third nasal pillow, the Philips DreamWear. With this one, I was a 5 month beta tester some time ago, so I have prior experience using it.
5466288 tn?1410485185 Thanks for replying.I was afraid that would be the answer.I do have sleep apnea, but due to moving and needing new mask and other equipment,I haven't been using my CPAP.
Avatar m tn coughing, sinus drainage), and you are using a CPAP/BiPAP machine then yes, it can be related if your not keeping your equipment clean. it can also cause headaches/migraines.
Avatar f tn Also, I am having a machine delivered and set up by a tech in 2 days. Which machine is easiest to handle. I have heard horror stories about CPAP. The main problem was the fact that the air is blowing back at your nose when trying to exhale. Can't this be adjusted. Help me to know what to expect and which machine is best.
967168 tn?1477584489 ll leave the technicalities to someone else, but in general untreated apnea is not good for the heart, or any other part of your body. Whoever provided your cpap equipment should see you through whatever it takes to be successful if you keep going back to them. There are web sites dedicated to helping others with adjusting to cpap. Just sounds like your heart doesn't need the stress of sleep apnea, whether it is causing the problems or not.
Avatar n tn I do not understand why someone would still be having symptoms when using the CPAP machine. Isn't that supposed to cure the problem. It seems that the breathing gets worse when using the CPAP machine. I feel like I have been drugged in the morning and it takes 3 to 4 hours to get going. Prior to the sleep study, I felt great! Got up in the AM, lots of energy all day, no sleepliness, none of the symptoms that one may have with apena.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Hello again, In general, you should continue to work with your primary care provider regarding your symptoms. If you do have hemorrhoids, then you might consider asking what options your provider recommends for treatment or symptomatic control. Based on your recent posting (dated10/16/2011), it also sounds like your duration and quality of sleep is not adequate. Poor sleep and insufficient sleep are associated with daytime sleepiness and fatigue.
Avatar f tn hazyworld, some are able to effectively treat their apnea with a dental device, but not everyone. Have an honest talk with a reputable provider about your chances of it working for you. They are designed to pull the lower jaw forward, and some complain of pain or have TMJ trouble. But some are willing to do anything to avoid using CPAP. I didn't like CPAP at first either. Are you on oxygen because you aren't using CPAP or with a CPAP?
Avatar n tn I have sleep apnea and was using the cpap machine but used it only once cause i could not at all sleep with a mask on my mouth and I could not aford to pay for it. So I returned it ,but now i cant sleep and during the day at abut after 12 noon i feel really tires and headaches and very sleepy . So i take caffine pills everyday to stay awake. I know taking pills is no the answer and I should be using the machine. My question is is there any other way to cure my problem with out the machine.
Avatar m tn ) I no longer have the blemishes or marks on my face and am still getting the benefits of the CPAP equipment. What other solution is there other than throwing the dang thing at the wall and saying to heck with it ... and believe me I have been tempted but I like the air and all it's benefits so I am inclined to do it this way. :) Hope this helps. BTW ... I have an under the nose cushion and also a partial face one ...
1218873 tn?1300091216 Ok - so I went for the follow up appointment at the sleep apnea clinc and they have given me a humidifier for the Cpap machine, so hopefully this will reduce the dryness. They also read the SD card which had been recording the pressures that I had required over the last 3 weeks. They were quite suprised at how high they were. But also found that the machine was set up for a nasal mask not a face mask.
Avatar f tn Anyway should i not be wearing ear plugs using a cpap? And or should i discontinue the cpap until the ear infection is gone? Or is maybe the machine just set entirely too high? Like i said the machine forces me to sleep in minutes and also for the duration of the ear infection i wont wear ear plugs. Would this cpap issue have the ability to be fatal?
1323747 tn?1364806882 I started on CPAP 5 days ago for severe sleep apnea and am noting I am waking up with a headache and increased blood pressure which was 148/93 this morning. The actual machine I am tolerating all night. It is set at a pressure of 9 with a flex of 2. I am using a nasal cushion, heated water, and note no problems with my sinuses. Checking the machine's information section it shows Apnea/hypopnic events at 8.6/hour which is a huge reduction. What could be causing the headache and raised BP?
511091 tn?1211149660 t want me to desaturate during the procedure. I thought I could either just wear my CPAP mask or have oxygen. Is this a normal procedure, to be intubated for a colonoscopy when a person has sleep apnea?
Avatar m tn If it is a fixed pressure you need to check the pressure setting is correct, you can check this with your health care provider. The other thing is it does take time to get used to the CPAP machine, some times you have to build gradually on your usage and make sure you use the ramp facility to reduce the pressure to help you get over to sleep better. If you get up for the bathroom during the night hit the ramp again to help you get back over to sleep.
648944 tn?1241469694 At the time of the diagnosis, I was tested, and then re-tested with the equipment. Apart from being surprised that the machine has lasted this long without service, I have wondered whether the settings done at the time of the diagnosis are still appropriate. Can anyone tell me: a) the normal useful life of a C-pap machine, and b) at what intervals should one normally be re-tested? Thanks!
Avatar m tn I'm thinking by "breather" you are speaking of a cpap machine. It could be that your therapy needs some adjusting for it to be effective. I'm going to list some common issues to troubleshoot. If you are not using a full face mask, could you be mouth breathing? Doing so causes all your therapy to go out your mouth and result in still suffering the health effects of the sleep apnea, including daytime sleepiness. Is your mask leaking too much to be effective?
Avatar m tn The most common treatment and arguably the most consistently effective treatment for sleep apnea is the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device. In addition to CPAP, a dentist specializing in sleep disorders can prescribe Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT). It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar m tn Did you catch that I did a sleep study back in January and now have my very own CPAP machine ? I had talked to the neuro about my fatigue, waking with mild headaches almost every morning, and wanting to go to sleep at work or driving home. (fortunately I did neither). He ordered the sleep study, and sure enough apnea is a problem I have. This week, though, I have incredible fatigue going on, despite the CPAP help.
