514349 tn?1272801633 I have other sleep problems, but I have not yet had to go to a CPAP. I understand if I wish to go to a CPAP my doctor requires I do another overnight in hospital (or other sleep study center) CPAP test to determine the best "settings" for me. So far I am CPAP free.
5466288 tn?1410485185 Thanks for replying.I was afraid that would be the answer.I do have sleep apnea, but due to moving and needing new mask and other equipment,I haven't been using my CPAP.
Avatar m tn coughing, sinus drainage), and you are using a CPAP/BiPAP machine then yes, it can be related if your not keeping your equipment clean. it can also cause headaches/migraines.
Avatar f tn Also, I am having a machine delivered and set up by a tech in 2 days. Which machine is easiest to handle. I have heard horror stories about CPAP. The main problem was the fact that the air is blowing back at your nose when trying to exhale. Can't this be adjusted. Help me to know what to expect and which machine is best.
967168 tn?1477584489 ll leave the technicalities to someone else, but in general untreated apnea is not good for the heart, or any other part of your body. Whoever provided your cpap equipment should see you through whatever it takes to be successful if you keep going back to them. There are web sites dedicated to helping others with adjusting to cpap. Just sounds like your heart doesn't need the stress of sleep apnea, whether it is causing the problems or not.
Avatar m tn The most common treatment and arguably the most consistently effective treatment for sleep apnea is the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device. In addition to CPAP, a dentist specializing in sleep disorders can prescribe Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT). It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar m tn ) I no longer have the blemishes or marks on my face and am still getting the benefits of the CPAP equipment. What other solution is there other than throwing the dang thing at the wall and saying to heck with it ... and believe me I have been tempted but I like the air and all it's benefits so I am inclined to do it this way. :) Hope this helps. BTW ... I have an under the nose cushion and also a partial face one ...
Avatar n tn how can they be treated when equipment in our area is too small to make a complete diagnosis. Also can we be sure that is all wrong. This discussion is related to low oxygen while sleeping.
Avatar f tn ve found that using a fully data capable CPAP, one that allows ME to access my therapy data each morning encourages me to continue w/CPAP therapy even when I am having difficulties as the data helps to point out what the difficulties are - most often just too high a leak rate. I've used and been happiest w/the Resmed S8 Elite, then the Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage and then the Resmed S8 VPAP Auto when I needed to be switched to a bi-level PAP due to my COPD.
Avatar m tn I am Garth Howell, live in the UK and am a OSA sufferer and am on CPAP treatment. Becoming aware of how under diagnosed sleep apnea is and how dangerous the condition is I decided to write a book about and have published it as an Amazon Kindle book and a paperback via Amazon Createspace and it is titled All you need to know.... about Sleep Apnea by Garth Howell and can be viewed on Amazon by going to the Kindle store and selecting Garth Howell.
572651 tn?1530999357 Thanks for the information - I will pass it on to her for discussion with her doctor. I didn't think the CPAP was the right approach.
511091 tn?1211149660 t want me to desaturate during the procedure. I thought I could either just wear my CPAP mask or have oxygen. Is this a normal procedure, to be intubated for a colonoscopy when a person has sleep apnea?
1218873 tn?1300091216 I have a CPAP machine on a months trial, this is one that varies the pressure as required it records the information on to an SD card so when I return to the clinic I will then be given a machine that has the correct fixed pressure. I have a full face mask as I could not get on with the nose only one. Now my problem is I wake in the middle of the night with a very dry mouth (i mean completely dry) my mouth has ballooned with air and the mask is vibrating against my face.
Avatar n tn A while back someone was collecting information about the way we sleep (stomach, sides, back) and if we had cold hands and/or feet- etc. I can't remember who asked the questions though. This same person contacted another doctor: Dr. Stephan Park, he had something to say on the topic- but again, I don't believe the answer to your question has been decided yet. I think you can find this information by putting sleep apnea and multiple sclerosis into the search bar.
Avatar f tn Most all of the state AT programs have a website (in contact directory that explains the program policy and procedures, loan/donation equipment, durable medical equipment, trainings, etc. I can tell you there are alot of links to agencies, vendors and state and national events. These programs are NOT based on income, although some states require a deposit depending on the item. YOU NEED TO CALL THE PROGRAM IN YOUR OWN STATE - MOST STATES REQUIRE THAT YOU BE A RESIDENT!
648944 tn?1241469694 At the time of the diagnosis, I was tested, and then re-tested with the equipment. Apart from being surprised that the machine has lasted this long without service, I have wondered whether the settings done at the time of the diagnosis are still appropriate. Can anyone tell me: a) the normal useful life of a C-pap machine, and b) at what intervals should one normally be re-tested? Thanks!
Avatar m tn I'm thinking by "breather" you are speaking of a cpap machine. It could be that your therapy needs some adjusting for it to be effective. I'm going to list some common issues to troubleshoot. If you are not using a full face mask, could you be mouth breathing? Doing so causes all your therapy to go out your mouth and result in still suffering the health effects of the sleep apnea, including daytime sleepiness. Is your mask leaking too much to be effective?
1218873 tn?1300091216 Ok - so I went for the follow up appointment at the sleep apnea clinc and they have given me a humidifier for the Cpap machine, so hopefully this will reduce the dryness. They also read the SD card which had been recording the pressures that I had required over the last 3 weeks. They were quite suprised at how high they were. But also found that the machine was set up for a nasal mask not a face mask.
5054005 tn?1362922551 My CPAP mask bothers me in the morning. I guess its when I start waking up a little and the mask will get a gap in it from the way I move and make a burping sound. Then that's it I cant go back to sleep unless I take it off. Anyone else?
Avatar m tn Dear Forum Members, I have come across information reproduced below. Does anyone know what is Continuous Positive Airways Pressure(CPAP) Theraphy? Has it helped someone you know? "Non-pharmacological approaches for inducing reverse remodeling Long-term moderate exercise training has been shown to induce reverse remodeling in patients with stable chronic heart failure, and this was associated with significant increases in work capacity and peak oxygen uptake.
