cpap

Avatar n tn Had sleep study, left study with a sleep apnea machine, discovered it would cost me $140 a month, have high insurance deductible so shopped online and found same machine brand new fraction of the price, called my sleep doc for a copy of my prescription....was told "its against policy to give you a copy, we don't approve of obtaining your equipment elsewhere" DO I NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO THE RX AND TO CHOOSE WHERE TO PURCHASE IT?
461838 tn?1255790216 I took a simple, low cost (affordable if without insurance) at home overnight recording Oximeter (Blood oxygen saturation levels) test. The simple equipment was delivered to my home and picked up off my porch the next day when I telephoned to confirm the test was run. The results were made known to me in a few days (don't remember how many). In my case it showed periods of low oxygen levels, sufficient to qualify under Medicare (yes I have insurance) for supplemental oxygen.

514349 tn?1272801633 I have other sleep problems, but I have not yet had to go to a CPAP. I understand if I wish to go to a CPAP my doctor requires I do another overnight in hospital (or other sleep study center) CPAP test to determine the best "settings" for me. So far I am CPAP free.
5466288 tn?1410485185 Thanks for replying.I was afraid that would be the answer.I do have sleep apnea, but due to moving and needing new mask and other equipment,I haven't been using my CPAP.
Avatar m tn coughing, sinus drainage), and you are using a CPAP/BiPAP machine then yes, it can be related if your not keeping your equipment clean. it can also cause headaches/migraines.
Avatar f tn Also, I am having a machine delivered and set up by a tech in 2 days. Which machine is easiest to handle. I have heard horror stories about CPAP. The main problem was the fact that the air is blowing back at your nose when trying to exhale. Can't this be adjusted. Help me to know what to expect and which machine is best.
967168 tn?1477584489 ll leave the technicalities to someone else, but in general untreated apnea is not good for the heart, or any other part of your body. Whoever provided your cpap equipment should see you through whatever it takes to be successful if you keep going back to them. There are web sites dedicated to helping others with adjusting to cpap. Just sounds like your heart doesn't need the stress of sleep apnea, whether it is causing the problems or not.
Avatar f tn ve found that using a fully data capable CPAP, one that allows ME to access my therapy data each morning encourages me to continue w/CPAP therapy even when I am having difficulties as the data helps to point out what the difficulties are - most often just too high a leak rate. I've used and been happiest w/the Resmed S8 Elite, then the Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage and then the Resmed S8 VPAP Auto when I needed to be switched to a bi-level PAP due to my COPD.
Avatar n tn Some providers will loan them overnight at little or no cost if they are providing the cpap. Someetimes there are other health issues with the lungs that affect the oxygen levels and require adding oxygen to the cpap if determined there is a need. Sleep apnea certainly can cause daytime fatigue. In many cases, therapeutic cpap treatment restores one to health and vitality. In some, damage can have occured. If any doubt, a cardiac workup wouldn't hurt.
Avatar m tn ) I no longer have the blemishes or marks on my face and am still getting the benefits of the CPAP equipment. What other solution is there other than throwing the dang thing at the wall and saying to heck with it ... and believe me I have been tempted but I like the air and all it's benefits so I am inclined to do it this way. :) Hope this helps. BTW ... I have an under the nose cushion and also a partial face one ...
1767141 tn?1313678474 I forgot to ask: do you have a copy of your equipment order (prescription) for both the CPAP and for the APAP?
1054090 tn?1343965695 He prescribed an over night at home recording Oximeter test - this was a very low cost test (a sleep study is not low cost). The results showed I had several episodes of low oxygen saturation during the night. This was firm enough evidence to invest in a full sleep study at my local hospital.. done over one night at the hospital. That resulted in the diagnosis of "mild" OSA, which as I said, I have beaten by losing some weight... and only 10% that is I was not much overweight.
1218873 tn?1300091216 Ok - so I went for the follow up appointment at the sleep apnea clinc and they have given me a humidifier for the Cpap machine, so hopefully this will reduce the dryness. They also read the SD card which had been recording the pressures that I had required over the last 3 weeks. They were quite suprised at how high they were. But also found that the machine was set up for a nasal mask not a face mask.
Avatar f tn I had to discontinue using my cpap, due to chronic lung infections. Changing the tubing, keeping it spotless, did not help prevent infection for me. Stopping the cpap treatment, is the only thing that prevented the chronic lung infections...and I always used the humitifer, which never helped prevent any infection... I regret ever having the sleep study and I regret what all the money and time it cost me, and the suffering of 3 years of lung infections...I am so done using the cpap treatment!
Avatar m tn My sleep study cost 10,000, and was inconclusive. I had to get a home study to confirm my apnea (these cannot be used to test CPAP settings though). If you have insurance, it's probably in your best interest to use it. You could also ask the doctor your insurance question over the phone - many want to help. My instinct is that sleep apnea is so common that insurance companies would lose too many customers if they turned down people with the condition.
511091 tn?1211149660 t want me to desaturate during the procedure. I thought I could either just wear my CPAP mask or have oxygen. Is this a normal procedure, to be intubated for a colonoscopy when a person has sleep apnea?
648944 tn?1241469694 At the time of the diagnosis, I was tested, and then re-tested with the equipment. Apart from being surprised that the machine has lasted this long without service, I have wondered whether the settings done at the time of the diagnosis are still appropriate. Can anyone tell me: a) the normal useful life of a C-pap machine, and b) at what intervals should one normally be re-tested? Thanks!
Avatar m tn I'm thinking by "breather" you are speaking of a cpap machine. It could be that your therapy needs some adjusting for it to be effective. I'm going to list some common issues to troubleshoot. If you are not using a full face mask, could you be mouth breathing? Doing so causes all your therapy to go out your mouth and result in still suffering the health effects of the sleep apnea, including daytime sleepiness. Is your mask leaking too much to be effective?
5054005 tn?1362922551 My CPAP mask bothers me in the morning. I guess its when I start waking up a little and the mask will get a gap in it from the way I move and make a burping sound. Then that's it I cant go back to sleep unless I take it off. Anyone else?
1275919 tn?1279836004 Hospital and anesthesia would be undetermined costs. Your post gave me the lightbulb that the equipment would also be another cost consideration. Your $2000 figure, I reading that was only the line listing for your med equip costs. What are the costs for remainder? I also have a 30% co-pay after a $3500 deductible.
Avatar m tn The most common treatment and arguably the most consistently effective treatment for sleep apnea is the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device. In addition to CPAP, a dentist specializing in sleep disorders can prescribe Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT). It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar n tn I never had a sleep study done do to the fact insurance wont cover it and the cost is about 2000.00 I have had just regular check ups with my physcian and have had my airway and breathing checked to rule out any apnea peoblems, from what my girlfriend and i can tell i dont have any uncontroled limb movements.
