Common Questions and Answers about Cpap device used

cpap

Avatar f tn Using a mouth piece will not help, unless, you have MILD apnea. It takes awhile to get used to wearing a CPAP mask for some people. I always suggest to my patients that are having a difficult time, to wear it during the day (while watching TV) to help your body get used to it. Give yourself atleast 2 months to get used to it. Don't give up so quickly..It's your health!
514349 tn?1272801633 I have other sleep problems, but I have not yet had to go to a CPAP. I understand if I wish to go to a CPAP my doctor requires I do another overnight in hospital (or other sleep study center) CPAP test to determine the best "settings" for me. So far I am CPAP free.
679466 tn?1247006054 I have mild obstructive sleep apnea. PO2 only drops into mid 80's sometimes, mostly low 90's, but overnight polysomnogram says I have 13 apneic events per hour. I've tried O2 overnight (used neighbor's) and PO2 stays in the high 90's. Is that a sufficient treatment?... or do I need the positive pressure of CPAP. I've tried the CPAP and I've completely failed. Mostly keeps me from sleeping well unless I'm on Ambien.
1555684 tn?1294434646 It is the size of an Ipod. I guess they insert a device in the neck and the device sends an electric impulse to the tongue to prevent obstruction of the airway. sounds great hope it works.
Avatar m tn It may be difficult initially to get used to the CPAP device. You could start by trying them for very short periods and then increase the timing as you get more comfortable. You could also request for lower pressures from your doctor and gradually increase the pressure and this may help. You could also try different masks and see which are more comfortable for you.
Avatar n tn I have sleep apnea and was using the cpap machine but used it only once cause i could not at all sleep with a mask on my mouth and I could not aford to pay for it. So I returned it ,but now i cant sleep and during the day at abut after 12 noon i feel really tires and headaches and very sleepy . So i take caffine pills everyday to stay awake. I know taking pills is no the answer and I should be using the machine. My question is is there any other way to cure my problem with out the machine.
Avatar n tn The most common treatment and arguably the most consistently effective treatment for sleep apnea is the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device. In addition to CPAP, a dentist specializing in sleep disorders can prescribe Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT). So please contact your doctor if you have not done it before so that treatment can be started. Regards and God bless.
Avatar f tn How do I avoid swollen eyelids every morning after sleeping with CPAP? This discussion is related to Swollen eyes & CPAP.
Avatar f tn He is not a smoker, but he has used the cpap for several years now. Could not changing his tubing and mask cause an infection in his lungs that could cause him to have these problems? (it has been a long time since he changed his tubing and we are remedying that today) Around July of this year he started noticing a heaviness in his chest and it got bad enough that he had me make him a doctor appointment. So the result of that breathing test is early emphysema.
222135 tn?1236488221 I had a rocky road early on with my cpap, even quit for a while. But did find that the more I used used it the longer I could keep it on. Everyone is different. Some sleep great from night one, but most have to get used to the feel of everything. I tried several different masks and when I found one that was comfortable for me it was easier after that. Now it is second nature and like a security blanket for when I sleep. No more concerns about not breathing.
Avatar f tn I got a cpap machine back in 08 after being diagnosed with sleep apnia during the process of getting a lap band. I never really used the cpap and kinda put up with the apnia. The last few days the apnia has been unusually bad and i actually had a seizure from it saturday morning so i went ahead and used the cpap saturday and sunday night. The level i beleive is set at 18.
Avatar n tn As you and Suri have stated you are still in the getting used to it stage, and it will take more time to get used to the mask. It may take more time as well to feel rested- remember you've had this for a number of years and your body has developed quite a sleep deficit - once you get caught up you'll feel great! As Suri said don't hesitate to call your doctor with any problems or even the company that supplied your machine.
Avatar m tn I am a 42 year old male who was just diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea with snoring but is intolerant of the CPAP. I am currently using an oral devise which forces my forward. I would like to to know if sleep apnea directly related to heart disease can it be reversed with the start of a CPAP or an oral devise?
Avatar n tn I suffer from anxiety/depression. I use a C-PAP device, but still must have window open (if in winter) to sleep. I sleep best with moving air. When the air is completely still at night, I feel panicky. What can I do? My psychiatrist only prescribes medications.
568603 tn?1240404035 Other treatment options include Automatic Titrating (Auto)-CPAP Pressure Device, oral appliances and surgery like uvulopalatopharyngoplasty and maxillomandibular advancement.I feel that you need to consult an ENT or sleep specialist and discuss these options with them. Pls let us know if you have any more doubts. Take care and God bless.
900662 tn?1469390305 I had a roommate at guitar camp one year who used a cPap. She wasn't in the room when I arrived, but I saw the machine, there, by the side of her bed, and thought - it's gonna be a llooong weekend. When I met her, she greeted me with a fresh packet of earplugs (oh, no!). When we retired for the night, she fixed her mask (she had the full mask) on her face, turned on the machine, and, I swear, it sounded like NORMAL BREATHING!
967168 tn?1477584489 Are there any alternatives anyone has found helpful to a CPAP machine? I have got to find some relief and sleep more than an hour at a time.
Avatar m tn The data does warrant your making a maximum effort to use the continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device effectively. The diagnosis will be more certain if and when you are consistently able to use the CPAP effectively, with relief of symptoms. The best recommendation we can give is that you work closely with the sleep lab technical staff in an attempt to make yourself more receptive and better able to cope with the CPAP discomfort you are now experiencing. Good luck.
Avatar m tn t found a device that does all 3. It would be nice to have a device that would catch arrhythmia just in case that's an issue). I don't know what other questions to ask. Help!
Avatar n tn You know, my husband also has a missing bone between sinus and brain. Just a small fragment and no one knows why but it was after sinus surgery when they informed him of this. There is something about the consistency of egg white that separates them. Kind of freaky. Anyway, this is a good question for your doctor. I wouldn't think this should be an issue but you'd want to make sure you have just the right pressure setting for your cpap device.
Avatar f tn However, the 2 titration studies I had seemed to have been focused on apnea; the CPAP pressure used only reduced my RERAS to 12/hr hour, and the sleep fragmentation was worse than my diagnostic study. I have used CPAP faithfully for 3 months, trying every setting from 5 to 9 cm. None of these pressures restore my sleep - I am waking every hour or so and feeling as tired as ever.
Avatar m tn I am a 59 year old T2 diabetic male with stent, sleep apnea, and pacemaker/defibrillator. Get a another doctor who can schedule tests for your heart and a trip to a sleep study lab. Been through all that. I had a heart attack, without the classic symptoms, four years ago. A 90% blockage necessitated a stent. I also developed congestive heart failure that led to the heart device implant. I'm just recovering from the surgery but can feel some progress.
Avatar m tn I have used a cpap for 10 months. My most prevalent problem is that the exterior of my nose tickles as though a feather is being brushed against it. I use a full face mask most of the time. I have tried applying Vaseline and various other moisturizers to no avail. The only thing that has seemed to help to a limited degree is "AquaPhor" daubed on my nose, not rubbed on.
Avatar m tn I am 55, severe obs sleep apnea- non compliance CPAP, now growth hormones came at severe critical low level at stimulation tests// Insuline tolerance test and Glucagon stimulation test done on two different days. already taking Synthroid, for thyroid, belly weight. weakness, tired, confused, blurry, center head pain. sleep is not sound. cortisol is also not normal with glucagon stimulation test. IGF-1 is low. Can I be a candidate for growth hormone replacement therapy with immediate effect.
Avatar m tn I was completely unable to handle cpap as it induced vertigo (a problem which I have intermittently), and sharp pains in my ears. I worked with the doctor and even on the lowest settings I had problems. I tried an oral device, but I have severe TMJ and it was too painful. I tested for oxygen desaturation this week and it went down to 88%. The doctor is offering me oxygen. I realize this isn't a replacement for cpap, but given my situation, could this be at all helpful?
