1213687 tn?1266286464 The only known cure is a tracheotomy, where a breathing tube is placed below your voicebox. If your husband is not benefiting from CPAP, it's possible that it's not being used effectively. Talk to your sleep doctor about optimizing CPAP, as well as to consider other options.
Avatar m tn I am Garth Howell, live in the UK and am a OSA sufferer and am on CPAP treatment. Becoming aware of how under diagnosed sleep apnea is and how dangerous the condition is I decided to write a book about and have published it as an Amazon Kindle book and a paperback via Amazon Createspace and it is titled All you need to know.... about Sleep Apnea by Garth Howell and can be viewed on Amazon by going to the Kindle store and selecting Garth Howell.
648944 tn?1241469694 From what I've read on a site devoted to cpap (cpaptalk) some of the older machines are workhorses and some report length of service similar to yours. It would not hurt to plan for the day it does "give up the ghost". Have you had it checked to make sure it is still outputting the proper pressure? Also, many of the newer machines capture treatment data so that you can know if your treatment is effective, and some even have available software so you can monitor it yourself.
Avatar n tn If so, get her to soak her feet with some baby oil in, or other suitable feet softeners and then either use a pumice stone, or those battery operated ones that take off the hard skin gently. The other problem may be from tendon problems or from nerve damage if she is pre diabetic or diabetic. You do not say which country you are from, but in the UK if your mum is a diabetic and has feet problems, the doctor can refer her for free podiatry treatment.
233622 tn?1279334905 Welcome to the club. CPAP made a tremendous difference for me in terms of the quality of my sleep. I think it's been two years or so. I do have OSA. I've never really understood the difference between hypopnea and obstructive sleep apnea. I think I understand central sleep apnea, and to be honest, I'm surprised more MS patients don't mention that. I'm sure our friend Dr. Park could add some clarification here, if he reads this forum regularly.

332074 tn?1229560525 I know that they are going to put me on a cpap machine. I know I would do okay with the mask that is just the two little prongs that go in your nose. However in the past when I have had surgery I have gone crazy when they have put the mask over my mouth and nose. I have always had very bad allergies and can not stand to have anything touching my nose and mouth. So I was wondering how do they determine what is the best mask for you to have?
Avatar n tn My wife uses a cpap machine with moisture every night. She has had two bouts with pneumonia this winter which she never had before using the cpap machine. Questions: Can breathing in excess moist air into the lungs by means of the cpap machine overload the lungs with moisture and cause problems?
Avatar f tn Shhhhhhh - your brain and body are listening. Give yourself some positive self talk, such as... I can do ANYTHING for just 30 days. Sleeping in my own home and bed will be nothing like in that lab. I'm going to take advantage of this change to get 30 days of real quality sleep. I'm glad that CPAP increases my likelihood of a good surgical outcome and recovery. I'm glad the next 30 days I will be at reduced risk of heart attack and stroke.
Avatar f tn Last checkup was done in London, UK, where a specialist doctor discounted MS and suggested that even if there is a remote possibility of MS it does not need any treatment at this stage. I continue to have the tingling, numbness and sometimes severe pain in my right arm. My question is if it is not MS then what could it be and what specialist do I need to refer to get rid of these problem.
Avatar n tn since using cpap machine started swelling in feet, ankles, hands and stomach. stopped using machine for 4 days swelling went away. started using again for 3 days swelling came back.
Avatar m tn for getting products off of high shelves (ie.furniture). The battery (5000Lbs 16 cell) that is in the unit has been leaking for several weeks and creating a sulphuric smell (like eggs) it is very strong. We don't use the unit it just sits in the corner. Our supervisor has told us numerous times that it is not harmful at all and it is just a bad smell. Is this correct and if it is harmful how do I got about rectifying this without reprisal?
Avatar m tn is there a hospital stay to replace battery in a pacemaker, or same day procedure
Avatar m tn we have a lead acid battery installed in our bathroom and there always persists a caustic like odour, somewhat acidic like odor and after i bathe i cough for sometime and also feel fatigued and burning sensation through my colon , i never had this problem earlier and i was not concerned initially but as i came to know about battery emissions i felt consulting, can it be due to inhaling ACIDIC FUMES i am more worried than being concerned about my health.
Avatar m tn ve lived my life in a state of exhaustion, until use of my cpap machine, and that has often caused very bad seizures. Without my cpap machine, I don't think I'd be here making this post.
Avatar m tn I noticed I had gained over 6 pounds since starting CPAP. After just one night without the CPAP I dropped 3 pounds, which I believe is all fluids. My question is this: Could CPAP use cause your kidneys not to filter out fluids from your blood? When using CPAP I do not get up during the night to urinate. After one night without using CPAP I did get up to go to the bathroom, my weight dropped by 3 pounds and the pain is greatly reduced.
Avatar n tn I have been using a CPAP machine for almost 3 months. From the night I used it I did not wake to go to the bathroom during the night. Although this was nice, I developed a problem immediately (from the first night) with swelling in my legs (calves, ankles, feet) and in my hands. I did NOT mention it to the sleep doctor because It was a month until my follow-up appointment and I never saw it listed as a side effect of CPAP therapy in materials I read.
Avatar f tn I had to discontinue using my cpap, due to chronic lung infections. Changing the tubing, keeping it spotless, did not help prevent infection for me. Stopping the cpap treatment, is the only thing that prevented the chronic lung infections...and I always used the humitifer, which never helped prevent any infection... I regret ever having the sleep study and I regret what all the money and time it cost me, and the suffering of 3 years of lung infections...I am so done using the cpap treatment!
1173253 tn?1263496613 I am not sleeping as I keep taking off the CPAP to blow my nose or to cough. Could I be allergic to the CPAP, or the dirt or germs in the tubing, or to the air that is sucked in thru the CPAP? No matter how good I feel in the day.....I get worse at night? Help Please.
