107693 tn?1252864443 I am having a hard time gettting use to the CPAP. I asked for the nose pillow when i got the results, thinking that i would like it better, It has been two weeks so i asked for the small mask. I was also told that i need to use CPAP with the water. When i wake up I find the need to take it off, then when i go to put it back I get very anxious, palpitations or it feels that my heart is racing. So i sleep without it. I have thyrothis with six nodules. had a FNA results were negative.
Avatar m tn It really depends on what's causing your nasal congestion. I have a wealth of resources on my website (http://doctorstevenpark.com), as well as articles on nasal congestion on ezinearticles.com. You can just search for my name.
332074 tn?1229560525 I use the full CPAP mask that covers my mouth and nose. At first it caused me a somewhat claustrophobic feeling and I always wanted to rip it off my face, but I got over that after a few days and now it is no problem. I sleep like a baby with it now.
1173253 tn?1263496613 I am not sleeping as I keep taking off the CPAP to blow my nose or to cough. Could I be allergic to the CPAP, or the dirt or germs in the tubing, or to the air that is sucked in thru the CPAP? No matter how good I feel in the day.....I get worse at night? Help Please.
525545 tn?1293181194 Also I am using the sleep nose pillows and I have had a sore under my nose ever since I started using the CPAP what is causing this? I can't use the mask.
Avatar m tn Hi I know how you feel as I have same problems with my nose getting blocked etc and my mouth goes so dry my tongue sticks to roof of mouth. I told my cpap dr and he suggested I have a humidifier which attaches to cpap machine, I'm also on oxygen. This is my first week with humidifier and I feel so much better, I haven't had a blocked nose all week. Have you tried one of these?
Avatar f tn Having a stuffy nose can prevent proper usage of the CPAP machine. He or she can also help you with the runny nose problem. Good luck.
Avatar f tn With proper support and follow-up, most people are able to benefit from CPAP. Worst case scenario, if your nose is stuffy, have that taken care of, and it can help with CPAP.
Avatar m tn Having open nasal passageways is important if you want to eventually benefit from sleep apnea treatment options, especially with CPAP. Once your nose is open, give CPAP another try. There are many ways of gradually adjusting to using CPAP. Another option is to use a formal mandibular advancement device that's made by dentists (not the boil and bite over the counter anti-snoring models), but you have to have the right anatomy and severe sleep apnea patients don't respond as well.
Avatar f tn Hi, How are you? Congestion, runny nose, sneezing, sinusitis, and nosebleeds are common problems with CPAP use. Make sure that your mask fits properly and a CPAP machine that uses a heated humidifier can help relieve these side effects. A saline nasal spray at bedtime may also help. If it persists, talk to your sleep specialist for further evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I have used a cpap for 10 months. My most prevalent problem is that the exterior of my nose tickles as though a feather is being brushed against it. I use a full face mask most of the time. I have tried applying Vaseline and various other moisturizers to no avail. The only thing that has seemed to help to a limited degree is "AquaPhor" daubed on my nose, not rubbed on.
Avatar n tn But, he cannot address my other problem of how to use my CPAP mask at night without the pressure sending air into the Jones tubes and creating airflow to the eye and pressure under the eyelid. He's done many Jones tube procedures and has never had this complaint before. Any ideas??
771990 tn?1341779376 00 am (last night) with uncontrollable sneezing. The amount of stuff I was blowing out of my nose was ridiculous! I was very congested in my nose and head and it has not stopped. Am I having an allergic reaction to something? Or is this something else? Not sure what to do. I also have a pressure headache! Avatar n tn I have been on cpap for 2 weeks now, I have had 4 different masks. I can fall asleep now no problem, but am waking up during the night and taking my mask off. It is getting very frustrating as I thought that this was a magical cure for tiredness but am getting so put off over the whole thing I feel like just giving up, have others had the same type of feeling?
Avatar m tn Did not help at all, but made CPAP a little more tolerable. (First few tries with CPAP gave me very bad sinus headaches.) RDI went up a little. CPAP is not working well as I still have a lot of nasal blockage when I lay down. Wake up after about 3-4 hours with a very sore throat. Tried oral appliance. Wake up after a few hours with a stuffed nose. Dentist noticed nasal blockage due to nose injury (football) and referred me to an ENT. Have done 2 RF turbinate reductions.
Avatar f tn 6, which is just considered mild as they say the cutoff is 5. My PCP has has now ordered another study with CPAP. My question is would the fact that I sometimes have difficulty breathing through my nose have any impact on that AHI and maybe this study with CPAP would not be necessary? I'm having these done because of anxiety that they say can be caused by sleep apnea and they want to be sure before prescring psy. med.
1218873 tn?1300091216 I am only guessing here, but I would think the bloody nose is from the dry air of the CPAP. talk to them about trying the humidifier on the side of the unit. It makes a huge difference. I am surprised the NHS covers CPAPs and especially the latest model. Good for them and you!
222135 tn?1236488221 Any one use a CPAP or BiPAP? Can you tell me how long it took you to get used to sleeping with it? Do you really feel better? Waiting to get mine and not too thrilled about it. I hated it when I had to do the titration stay for CPAP. Really did not like the way it felt. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn I am a 45 year old male who uses a CPAP for sleep apnea. However, I am seldom able to wear the mask because I always seem to be stuffed up and putting on the mask with a stuffy nose makes me a bit claustrophobic and I wind up pulling the mask off. One side of my nose always seems plugged and it appears to swtich at any given time. Over the past week, my nose has been hurting on the left side...feels like someone punched me. Very sensitive to the touch and hurts to blow my nose.
Avatar f tn Hi there, i recently had a trial of cpap , but the mask covered my nose and mouth , i found it very difficult to wear. I only had a 5 day trial, my doc says not enough evidence from the results so i have to have further indepth tests done, awaiting a date for this. It was thought that i had osa ( obstructive sleep apnoae ) . I felt tired in the mornings cos it would take me a long time to get any sleep with the machine on .
Avatar f tn I have had excellent luck with the Resmed Mirage Quattro mask. It has a knob at the top of the mask that adjusts the pressure against the forehead and nose. I wake-up without redness or cuts on the nose. It is a full face mask which is a concern if you're using the nasal CPAP. I was getting redness and cuts when I first started using CPAP but it turns out that my mask was too small. Once I went to a large Mirage Quattro, the bleeding stopped.
514349 tn?1272801633 I have other sleep problems, but I have not yet had to go to a CPAP. I understand if I wish to go to a CPAP my doctor requires I do another overnight in hospital (or other sleep study center) CPAP test to determine the best "settings" for me. So far I am CPAP free.
Avatar n tn Can CPAP air entering through the nose pass up the tear ducts and exit the lacrimal punctum between the closed eyelids and the cornea/conjunctiva when sleeping? If this is the case, is there risk of long term damage to the lacrymal system and persistent tearing? My mask fits well, and my CPAP pressure is nominal (8.2), but every morning my eyes are invariably red and itchy, and the lids are a bit swollen.
Avatar n tn I have just got a CPAP machine and have had 3 nights with it. I've had sleep apnea for many many years and finally did something about it. My questions are for those who've been through the "getting used to it" process.
Avatar f tn I also have issue with breathing through my nose due to allergies, and probably having my nose busted from sports, I've been told that I have a deviated septum. So I use a full face mask with my Cpap, which seems to work pretty well. Originally I was given a Bipap machine, but the pressure was so high I couldn't stand it. Since then I've lost weight and got in better shape so the second time I went for a study I was given a Cpap machine which seems to work better.
Avatar m tn Throat, nose infections, high degree of mucus from nose and throat. no, not using BPAP/CPAP , taking antibiotic courses - 6-7 a year like Euthromycin,Cipro, Amoxi. Sinus allergy tablets, cough syrup, tired and fatigue. Feeling tired even on small work like brooming ,, stepping on stairs, mucus is quite sticky and solid type. my IgM ,is low for last 3-4 years. I am 56, catching such infections since birth as far as I remember.
Avatar n tn Initially I could not get used to the CPAP because it went over my nose only. When I would fall asleep my mouth would open and a rush of air would blow out ,awakening me.I gave up for a couple of years.Unknowingly;I was developing heart problems also.A friend told me about a slept mask that covered the entire nose and mouth.I decided to give it a try.NO MORE awakenings.I started dreaming again.I hear that the surgical remedy is both painful and not completely reliable.
