cozaar vs lisinopril

My BP runs about 140/90 without medication. I am not overweight (BMI of 22, age 57). My GP put me on Lisinopril last year but switched me to Losartan after the Lisinopril failed to help. The Losartan brought my BP down a lot with a 50 mg daily dose. I was down to 110/70 and even 100/65 at times. I even got light-headed when I stood up quickly. The GP said this was normal and good. He likes my BP to be well below 120/80. So far so good.

Beta blockers definitely have an effect on heart rate. I was started on 2.5mg three years ago, and when my angina worsened I was told to double this to 5mg. I ended up in hospital because my heart rate dropped to 28, 25 when asleep setting off all the alarms. Each person can tolerate different levels of medications, so getting the balance right is important. I know in cardiac rehabilitation there were some people with heart rates between 45-50, much lower than my 68.

t had any other problems with Lisinopril besides the cough and I am scared to change meds and take the chance of worse side effects. I am just wondering if anybody has any thoughts on Lisinopril vs Losartan to help me decide if I should change meds. Thanks!!!

I was recently put on lisinopril for blood pressure and within a couple weeks I started coughing and coughing, which triggers asthma attacks. I went on like this for a couple more weeks trying to figure out what changed. I had a Dr. appt. and when I told him, he knew right away it was lisinopril and changed the BP medicine to cozaar. The coughing is terrifying. My lung walls hurt. The mucus/phlegm is so thick (and has a metallic taste) it about chokes me. I cannot sleep at night.

Can you go have the Cozaar filled at another pharmacy?

If you have high blood pressure then ask your doctor to put you on losartan (Cozaar) Not sure what a doctor would do without high BP. You could search clinicaltrials.

I'm now taking Amlodipine 2.5mg started yesterday, I was originally taking lisinopril 10mg and metoprolol 25mg. I was fine with lisinopril and metoprolol the only issue was when I get a cough it will last 2 to 3 months, I can't get any sleep at all do to dry cough. The doctor took me out of both medications for 30 days but my HBP would rise especially evening time. The Doctor is now having .

My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic. I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?

I think after this month, that will be 3 months on losartin(cozaar), I will see how my blood work is then add vasotec to the cozaar wait 3 months check my blood work and make a decision on dropping cozaar for vasotec. It was first published as far as I can see that losartan reduces fibrosis in 2000, that sure seems much to long a time lag between discovery and clinical use and I'm sure it is that way across medicine.

I opted for the RAI (3 months ago) and I take cozaar (6 months now) and in these last 3 weeks I am suffering from muscle fatigue, muscle cramps if I stretch them too quickly or exercise them. Could the cozaar be causing the problem or is the disease the problem or both?

I tried to talk to my husbands P.A. about Losartan (Cozaar) and she just kind of blew me off. If we actually got to see the Dr., he would probably discuss it with us but she doesn't even want to hear about it. Joe has esophageal varicies and Nadolol is what they think is best. I read a study that showed an increase in platelets and albumin levels and subjects with liver disease. I will be watching the news on this.

There are studies going on at Johns Hopkins concerning cozaar to see if it can stop or reverse the growth of aortas, which it has done in mice. My son has taken Cozaar and his beta blocker for three years and his aorta has not grown wider...so this is good news!

I was started on 3.125 mg 2x/d 4 months ago. also lisinopril and effient and lipitor. all due to an MI and stent in RCA. Dr took me off lisinopril due to dry cough about 6 weeks ago and upped coreg to 6.25 mg. cough resolved but I have been having early morning rapid heart beat (wakes me up) in recent weeks and my tinnitus has become much worse. My upper back pain which started while on drugs is also worse since the dosage went up.

Genetic's doctor spoke of two beta blocking drugs for 'aorta root dilatation'. Atenalo and Cozaar. In reading about these in pill book, I already suffer from cold spots in the extremities, kidney problems at times and several of the other nasty's listed as side effects, etc. Have a hard time keeping weight on me[130 lbs -5' 5 1/2"], low body temperature [97]. I have recently stopped taking Coreg 6.25ng and started on Cozaar 50mg to manage my blood pressure which is working out really great according to measurements. I was weaned from Coreg by taking just my dosage at night and skipping the morning one for two weeks and then to stop.
