Avatar n tn Am 18 year old and i smoke for about 3 years i stop smoking then when my family issue started again i start smoking again. am trying to quit but i cant stop coughing and my chest hurts . what should i do. i have no prob.
Avatar n tn The catch is he/she may only hear wheezes, rales, or rhonchi when the buggies are partying, which may not be when you show up at the office. You really need to keep on top of this, because the longer it goes on, the more difficult to clear up.
250701 tn?1320974765 Good luck to you on the smoking. I cannot believe you were teaching full time while on treatment and smoking as well. You must have a very strong constitution. You are very fortunate for that. You know the drill about smoking...it is deadly. Having said that as a former smoker who still longs to smoke, I think you are wise to tackle one thing at a time. Clear the virus, rebuild your health. Later there are things you can try to help you quit. All the best to you.
Avatar f tn I never went through the coughing phase when I quit. I too coughed when I was smoking. I have 70 some days of not smoking and I have the occasional dry cough. I hope you don't go through the coughing either. :) Yuck, coughed when smoking! I was so addicted I wouldn't stop smoking the cig. even if I was coughing. Again, YUCK!
Avatar f tn I also got coughing so hard I coughed up/vommited mucous 3 times and it was very thick. When I start coughing it's hard to stop and I feel like i can't breath. This morning I thought it might have gone away and I feel a little better but I still can't take a full deep breath without coughing, I've looked up symptoms and think it might possibly be bronchitis?
Avatar f tn There is many things it could be. Have you been to the doctor? Do you have allergies? Do you have any post nasal drip or have to clear you throat of mucus? Do you have any other symptoms like fatigue or body aches? I know from experience that a swollen thyroid can cause your problem but, there would be other symptoms to go along with the coughing.
14511252 tn?1434923746 Hi I agree with the above poster in letting your Dr know and decide when you should stop prior to surgery...as not only smoking affects coughing but can cause the veins and other structures to constrict and make surgery more difficult..... I agree a pillow for the drive home was very helpful. Also a hat to protect the scar tissue from getting sunburned. PS- if you would like a Prayer thread posted...please post your surgery date on the thread for dates....I will bump it up.
Avatar m tn Im not sure if i have an infection or what and seeking advice.. I know your advice will be to stop smoking, but even when i do for a while the coughing never ceases. Ive also been having pain in my left lung when i cough. On rare occasions blood will be in the phlem.
Avatar f tn And also, you may never have the terrible coughing thing. I never did. I was just happy to STOP coughing all the time. I wish you the best of luck!
Avatar m tn i am a smoker and ive been smoking for about 6 months. i never cough while im smoking or afterwards. i can go hours with out coughing, but when i do cough it only lasts a few seconds. ive tried robutusin and that didnt work. my breathing is normal there is no tightness in my chest im not weezing and im able to still work out and take deep breaths and i dont have asthma. i talked to a pharmacist and he said it should go away especially since i dont have any of those symptoms.
Avatar f tn Good for you on quitting. You said you smoked for over 30 years so it will take time for your lungs to improve. You should go see a pulmonary doctor to rule out COPD/Emphysema and asthma. The doctor will give you a breathing test to see if this may be affecting your breathing. If so, proper treatment can get it under control. I found quitting cold turkey worked best for me. No patches or meds as this just makes it harder to cleanse yourself from nicotine.
Avatar m tn and it only happens in the morning. the amont is smalled. Doctor says its normal when you quit smoking but i have heard other people say that it happened to them even when they were smoking also other people has advised that it could be GERD... acid reflux just like you said the doctor just give you a lot of maybes...a lot of it could be... what tests did they give you? i got blood work done and spirometry.
Avatar m tn Tell him you love him, and you want to have him to be around when you are his age. My prayers go out to you.
Avatar m tn Could it be post-nasal drip. Try taking large doses of vitamin B5 to thin the mucus and reduce the inflammation.
Avatar f tn I was told this is a normal symptom of giving up smoking, but when does the cough start.? My chest xray is all clear and so was all blood works. Will I breath better when I start coughing up the muck. This discussion is related to Strange breathing.
Avatar m tn sound like your lungs are clearing and you may have bronco or asthma or something see your doctor some times when you stop smokeing this happen.
Avatar m tn have you been coughing a lot. some times you can pull something in side and make you sore for a few days. even hurts to take a deep breath. I have had this problem. doesn't last very long.
Avatar n tn When I quit smoking, I had a bit of a cough when muscous kept coming up from the lungs but this stopped after about a week or two. I have allergies as well and I don't have a chronic cough. You wife may not want to go to a doctor but as this has been going on for over a year now, she should see a doctor and have him diagnose what is wrong. Have never heard of dentures causing coughing unless they don't fit properly. Hope you find out what's causing the cough soon. Take care.
Avatar m tn I have chronic bronchitis, doesn't flare often. Im 23, former smoker.. when you get a cold or flu etc, it may flare and if needed antibiotics and steroids will clear the infection. When i know i have a problem : have been or am sick, coughing alot ( sometimes mucus) and tight chest / short of breath. I go to the doc, i get what i need. Not life threatening unless you don't treat the infection when you have one. Smoking will make it much harder to breath when bronchitis is flaring.
Avatar m tn second hand smoke is worse than smoking a ciagrette yourself. look for another place to live or have a talk with your roomate about smoking outside.
Avatar f tn You may have coughed so hard that you ruptured a small blood vessel. You do need to see a doctor about this, though, and you do need to stop smoking. (No big news flash there, I'm sure. I apologize, but it has to be said.) Let's hope and pray this is not what you're afraid of, but let it be a wake-up call. Please take it seriously. My brother died of lung cancer at age 50. Good luck.
Avatar m tn so i cough every now and then, during morning, it feels like nothing, but as the day goes, specially afternoon, it getting worst, i have also this feeling that i have phlegm but apparently none, i just spit and all i can see is just white saliva, but sometimes with brownie phlegm and thinking it is from smoking, i stop smoking when i had this choKING feelings... and it feels like somehow connected with back pain... i always have this back pain.. but relief just by leaning my back.
Avatar f tn So i have been smoking my entire pregnancy up until a few weeks ago when i got a really bad cold and could barely breath let alone smoke. I guess it was my blessing in disguise. Well its been over two wks and ive only had like 2 cigs. Well anyways im getting a bad cough and its causing a sore throat. I read online that this is caused by quitting smoking cause ur body is healing and what not. Well just curious if any other former smokers went through this and how long it lasted.
Avatar m tn You should stop smoking and get to the doctor. I don't want to scare you but I was just watching Dr. G and she was doing an autopsy on a man who smoked marijuana and his lungs were terrible. Please get to a doctor and let them know whats going on and have your lungs checked to make sure you are still healthy.
Avatar f tn Stop smoking, whatever, everything. Lungs need clean fresh air.
