Avatar n tn My dog seems to have a lot of difficulty swallowing when he eats or drinks and he ends up hacking and coughing most of it up on the floor. He also coughs up a lot of phlegm when he gets up in the morning and he purse-lip breaths. He also has a bad mouth odor. I had his teeth cleaned about 8 months ago, but this is a different odor.
Avatar f tn I'm worried there may be an issue with my throat. I've always seemed like it's been hard to breathe. I've had a tonsillectomy and missed fundoplication surgeries. I've also been treated for sleep apnea. Now I'm always swallowing and coughing to clear my throat. Especially, when I'm on my back. Any help is appreciated.
1175033 tn?1492201228 t react in time causing liquid to pour down into my wind pipe and I spend the next 10 minutes coughing and tasting what I am coughing out. This used to happen every couple days or once a week, but lately its at least once a day if not more. I seem like I am always clearing my throat of mucus also. If I swallow denser food it will stay put in my throat but the liquids just go straight down faster then my throat is reacting. Other new symptom is double vision with migraines.
Avatar f tn Another possibility could be that your swallowing reflex isn't working properly, and you are dealing with aspiration. That might also cause coughing. Have you had a Chest CT?
Avatar m tn Hello, last week I had a sore throat (burning sensation) for 2 days, then I developed a dry cough. Avatar f tn I've just saw your comment ! Thank you for responding.! I've already had my thyroid removed because of thyroid cancer; but there could be some remnants.left. I'm only concerned because I find it hard to swallow; there is no pain, but rigidity felt when swallowing and I'm always coughing to clear my throat. If it is scar tissue, that is something I can live with !
Avatar n tn The plate goes so far back in the throat it does gag and there are swallowing and coughing problems. The symptoms did subside but then returned with the last plate they installed in my mouth. It's so large I really have had difficulties wearing that thing and have simply not worn it as I should have. I just want all this behind me, it's just so uncomfortable and difficult. Even painful. So yes absolutely, dentures do cause the symptoms.

Avatar m tn On Saturday (about 3 days ago), I was coughing hard and bringing up some white to clear mucus after I took a syrup that's an expectorant, decongestant, and an antihistamine that my GP prescribed to me. I'm also getting over a sinus infection and just finished taking antibiotics as well. After I finished coughing hard, my throat (near my adam's apple) feels achy and feels weird when I swallow.
Avatar n tn Now I am coughing after eating or drinking. It feels like a dry cough from down deep in my belly when I do cough. I do feel some nasal congestion at times but sometimes do cough up little globs of green, then stop coughing. I don't trust doctors because they don't listen to me; they want to 'blanket cover' everyone under the same symptom.
Avatar f tn Lately I have been having trouble swallowing when i eat food. It feels like it stops mid rib area and I have to take a deep breath to catch my breath (cause I cant breath) and to swallow. sometimes I have choked. make since? could this be a MS issue? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I have had the problem of swallowing my food part, and I have had pain in my chest when I do. I also have problems with choking on my food. I have even had problem just swallowing my own saliva, but now that I think about it I have never told my neuro about it. Guess that is something I should write down to mention to him. There are so many symptoms to keep track of and I can't even remember what I had for breakfast much less what has happened to me in the month since my visit to him.
1435895 tn?1304291241 Today I got some results for the swallowing tests I had done on Monday. I was referred to these guys by the NS because I am having so much trouble with food getting stuck in my throat, coughing, hacking, choking when I try to eat. Now does anyone else have this happen? I am supposed to have a endoscopy week after next to see if they can find out why food isnt going down. In time for thanksgiving! Yay! I maybe wont have to puree thanksgiving dinner.
Avatar m tn s far more likely the result of your getting up out of a reclining position and walking to the bathroom allowing gravity and some coughing and swallowing to help you drain the fluid from your throat and esophagus away from your airway. Can't imagine any specific connection of coughing to the bladder.
Avatar f tn I've got a cold right now and I have been coughing a lot...all that coughing has made my chest sore....I would call the Dr. and ask if you should be concerned...

Avatar n tn Some signs and symptoms of swallowing difficulties include difficulty controlling food in the mouth, inability to control food or saliva in the mouth, difficulty initiating a swallow, coughing, choking, frequent pneumonia, unexplained weight loss, gurgly or wet voice after swallowing, nasal regurgitation, and dysphagia (patient complaint of swallowing difficulty). When asked where the food is getting stuck patients will often point to the cervical (neck) region as the site of the obstruction.
738075 tn?1330575844 I've had an interesting month of having occasional but spontaneous breathing and coughing issues. At first I thought it was leftovers of that virus I had in April, or seasonal allergies. But it continues. I'll be doing my normal daily activities, breathing normally, and then I'll start coughing for no reason. A shallow, dry, non-productive coughing spell, and then I can't catch my breath.
Avatar f tn I usually don’t have issues with coughing from it unless I’m laying down. But I am constantly swallowing the reflux throughout the day.
Avatar n tn I feel like i have a lump in my throat, making swallowing a struggle. When I clear my throat, I cough up normal light green/white phlegm. I am a smoker ( Only for a little over a year) I have a bad anxiety problem. I am age 18. Please I need answers, my anxiety is driving me crazy. I always think the worst of things, but I dont like this one.
Avatar f tn I was put on a 2 week coarse of Prednisone along with ibuprofen. By the end I had developed an issue swallowing pills. Even my small thyroid ones felt like they got stuck. Then it progressed to coughing up small hard bits of food, severe reflux, etc. After too much testing, the problem mostly resolved except for lingering occasional esophageal spasms and the thought that some was just hypersesivity.
Avatar m tn About 2 years ago I had tonsillitis which caused trouble swallowing, a painful throat, heavy coughing and a little fever. My GP prescribed multiple courses of amoxicillin clavulanate and ciprofloxacin, because it would come back again and again after I finished the antibiotic course. They recommended that my tonsils be removed. I didn’t agree to this surgery since they had done only basic tests to find the cause for the tonsillitis. Also, I have never had problems with my tonsils before.

Avatar f tn I now can no longer eat anything, without choking, and having to swallow way too much, plus gagging when I have tried to swallow something bigger than a noodle. I am now down to drinking chicken broth, and boost . Ive tried noodles, but I have to keep swallowing to get them down, and then cough like no other. Is it the cyst that is causing me to not breathe or eat? I also notice, Im tired, and achy.
