When I normally smoke a lot during the evening when I wake up I remove clear phlegm with a bit black or something. The reality is, that whatever rubish it is that is coming out of our lungs means that our lungs are not very clean and we should take this seriously. I understand and also suffer from smoking addiction but we need to use this as motivation to make us quit before its too late. On the other hand, you could only benefit if you ask your doctor about it.

Same thing happened to me & I'm looking for medical answers... dats why I searched for this particular topic & found this site... anw, I stopped smoking 2 days ago (after 10 years of casual smoking, I'm 27yrs, and exercise regularly)...
I am asthmatic but it is well under control. I am coughing up mucus and am fairly stuffed up, all signs that my body is cleaing out the crap in my system. My only concern is the pain in my solar plexus. I have also started exercising again and being more active. Could the pain in the solar plexus related to the weight-gain, exercise, coughing and not smoking? I have also had a LOT of acid reflux lately and am under a HUGE amount of stress...I wonder if I have an ulcer too?
my boyfriend had quit smoking before and when he started coughing shortly after i was really concerned. he's not the type to go to doctors so while i was at my doctor for a check up i just asked if it was normal for someone to do that? she of course said she couldn't give a diagnosis or anything but she said it is usual for the cilia (the little hair like things in your throat) to sort of come to life..
For the past 4 years I have been coughing up clear jelly like Mucus Balls. I have been a smoker for 8 years, and I have Asthma. I wake up in the morning and in the middle of the night coughing up a lot of the little mucus balls. It happens a little bit through out the day. Sometimes they are balls and sometimes they are like a hair, but made of mucus. I am very scared and do not have health insurance. I am 25, and thought I was pretty healthy. Please someone, HELP!
my throat seems to close up at various times of the day and night, I start coughing, my eyes start to water and my throat has a bad tickle that makes me cough. It's like someone sprayed air into my mouth. When I sleep on my left side, I have noticed that it feels like my throat is closing up and I start coughing and my eyes water.
I've tried antibiotics, allergy meds, cold and asthma meds. sucking on cough drops. Nothing seems to help.
What can it be???
Anyways I thought the phelgm coughing up mighta been caused by some resin I was smoking, but they said that was black phlegm, not clearish yellow...
So a few days pass of coughing up phlegm, and now I'm sitting here.. irritated... i had the chills last night, I woke up several times.. coughing and sweating just about everytime. My throat is killing me.. I don't cough up phlegm as often, its more of a dry cough now with some phlegm every now and then.
Hey yeah im 15 and was extremley worried about my parents smoking the both started at 13 so i looked it up and they were spending like $5000 aus a year on it smoking a pack a day which they didnt realise also each ciggarette takes around 12 minutes from your life. once i told them they slowed down but didnt stop but then when my mums father died of cancer because of smoking it hit them hard and they pretty much stopped after a few weeks.
Woke up today noticing pain in my diaphram area when I cough. Pain is limited to instant of coughing. Yes, I am overweight - I think that may have to do with it...but not sure. First time ever experiencing this; 55 y/o, quit smoking 2001. No respiratory symptoms history. Had MRI done a year ago or so - completely normal.
I never went through the coughing phase when I quit. I too coughed when I was smoking. I have 70 some days of not smoking and I have the occasional dry cough. I hope you don't go through the coughing either. :)
Yuck, coughed when smoking! I was so addicted I wouldn't stop smoking the cig. even if I was coughing. Again, YUCK!
so I've been coughing up black coffee grounds for a few years, I've seen at least 5+different doctors that have not been any help, the only thing 1 doctor told me was to try to stop smoking,I've smoked cigs since I was 17,so I quit cigs for 6 months with no change and saw the doctor again and he wasn't able to tell me anything.I cough the stuff up at least 10 times every 18 mins, sometimes more. Does anyone else experience this?Also can anyone provide insight to this?
Same thing happened to me but it took about 3 months before my cough was loose and productive! I smoked for 38 years so maybe thats why? It will happen, trust me : )

If you stop smoking at this point, the lungs are not damaged any further, though the damage that has already been done cannot be reversed. So, giving up smoking would be first step towards controlling your symptoms.
Treatment for bronchitis is usually symptomatic. Antibiotics for infections and bronchodilators for bronchospasm. And of course avoidance of smoking to prevent further damage to the lungs. Good Luck.

My husband & I were smokers when I got pregnant with my (almost) 3 yr old. We both decided to quit when we found out we were expecting. I smoked about 1/2 pack a day & quit by smoking one-two less every day until I was done. My hubs did the same & though it took him a little longer, he quit completely, too. He had lung issues & was probably the last person who should have been smoking. He commented to me one day, "I can take a deep breath without coughing.
I also got coughing so hard I coughed up/vommited mucous 3 times and it was very thick. When I start coughing it's hard to stop and I feel like i can't breath. This morning I thought it might have gone away and I feel a little better but I still can't take a full deep breath without coughing, I've looked up symptoms and think it might possibly be bronchitis?
I used to drink so much soda before I was pregnant. And I asked my doctor if it was ok for me to have a soda a day because I get the worst headaches and she told me it was fine that I would have one soda a day of it got rid of my headaches.

I have had numerous blood tests and recently had a CT Chest scan which showed nothing, though I am still coughing up blood (its not huge amounts - though when I cough I bring up flem along with blood).
I also get headaches which occasionally turn into migraines, Tired/lethargic.
I am a smoker.
18 years of age.
