I have had the same problem with mucus and coughing after eating, and the problem is always solved when I take DI-AID (by Solgar, but there are a number of companies that make it). Phlegm mixed with some blood could be due to irritation of the nose, sinuses, or lungs. Swallowing this blood will cause it to end up in your stool.
On the other hand if you are coughing up blood and not blood-streaked phlegm, you should be seen on an emergency basis. For blood to be found in the stool, it must either originate in your digestive tract, or be swallowed in large quantities from another source.

Coughing up blood could be due to an infection a sinus infection or a lung infection. Sometimes trauma to the lungs can cause this or it could just be throat irritation. Therapy lies in treating the underlying cause. With your symptoms it is likely you may have developed respiratory infection . Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation.

I was in the hospital with a blood clot in my lung I hat 10 bag of hepurn nd then was put on warfin like twice a day I spit up dark brown flem shoulI be concerned I tol my Dr, but he didnn;t seem concerned. I also have a nasal drip or years Thank you

You should call your physician, coughing up blood can be a serious symptom.
I had told dr I had been coughing up blood for several days and they asked if it was streaked and I said yes. I saw a description on a web page using the description of looking like a partially scrambled egg and that is what it really looked like, not really streaked but kind of mixed. Now I have been on 500 mg Cipro for 4 of 7 days prescribed but still am coughing up same type of blood mixture. Am I just not allowing the medicine to work long enough or should I be contacting my doctor?
Any way once off plane probebly the following day i was coughing up blood and flem, went to the doctors said probebly burst blood vesel in lung dont worry about it.
anyway 6 weeks later back home the blood had gone but i was still coughing up alot of flem, always feeling it on the back of my throat. doctor said leave it a few weeks and see how you are anyway the same thing happend 18 months later when i went backgot the same, oh wait and see if it goes.....
Every morning he has a terrible cough and it continues throughout the day-just more so in the AM. He is constantly coughing up flem. He has tried several cough medicines, nothing seems to help. His doctor has not been successful in getting it to loosen up. I am looking to see if you have any helpful suggestions, new direction to take etc...I am concerned more now because when he coughs he gets coughing so hard and the flem is so thick it actually makes him choke.
I have had numerous blood tests and recently had a CT Chest scan which showed nothing, though I am still coughing up blood (its not huge amounts - though when I cough I bring up flem along with blood).
I also get headaches which occasionally turn into migraines, Tired/lethargic.
I am a smoker.

We have taken meds and puffers nothing is working. I have been coughing then leads to vomiting either flem or froth, and gasping for a minute or so out load to replace hair in my lungs.It is the most horrible thing... I get headaches and feel very tired. But told that we are to just relax and takes time :( Well to take time it's been over a month that we have been so sick!!!

There is radtion fibrosis on teh anterior wall of his heart, and with the valve leaking, this does not allow teh blood to flow correctly, and his kidneys can not get enough blood either from teh same so fluid is backing up in the lungs and causes congestion.
It can be managed...that's what we're being told, anyway. His last radiation treatment was 7 yuears ago, and no problems until now.

i started aprox 2004-2005 coughing up thick clear mucus.That sticky if you dont cough it out sometimes feels like your not taking no air down your throat,into your lungs.! (sometimes i feel very panic'y
i have never experanced this in my past and im a 33 year old male.not over weight.try to keep fit.,but so far i am unable to cure.sometimes it eases off ,but never goes away.!
I tried to ignore it until the day I passed out from the coughing. Shortly after I threw up while coughing and aspirated it back in a failed attempt to catch a breath. Off to the doctor I went and he knew immediately that I had Pertussis (or whooping cough). He explained that you usually get it after another illness and their is NO TREATMENT. Again, no treatment. Cough medicines with suppressants-expectorants-codeine do nothing and may even make the cough worse.

on a morning when i wake up i always need to cough and clear my throat since about a year ago. but now it has extended to needing to do it throughout the day. sometime the mucus that comes up is small hard sticky lumps that nearly make me be sick as they get stuck in my throat. or some times theres a lot of yellow and white flem. its never clear. I'm wondering wat the cause of this is as i can constantly feel it there at back of my throat like a coating.
m exhausted from being up at night, care for his siblings and him during the day, and worrying myself sick as I listen to him hack until he vomits. Isn't there ANYTHING a mother can do to help this kid? He is starting to look really exhausted with a weird tired look in his eyes and he is crying more and more from frustration and exhaustion. A few days ago, I developed a soar throat with very little coughing. Maybe three or four times a day I coughed. Today, I had a flem (sp?) come up with blood on two occassions. It was red in color, not dark.
I have high blood pressure that is under control with medication and has been for 10 years. My last check up, my bp was 128/78. No other medical conditions.

Dr. Karen Lahive - Faulkner Hospital, Boston, MA My alt. med doc, said MOLD toxicity and allergy. Also tested me for mycoplasma pneum. I tested positive. They are now (at year 2) doing the DNA PCR for mycoplasm... plus lyme (positive bands), etc...

They say she has sarcoi (excuse my spelling) but the medications they gave her actually just seem to make her worse, they had put her on this certain medication and it ended up makin her blood pressure go up, and she started to have blurry vision and see light streaks, and she was disoriented she went to the hospital her bp was 205 over 105 , she was pretty much on her way to having a heart attack.
I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it.
Hey marty, I was originally going to suggest it could possibly be an ulser in your stomach as this would cause bleeding of the stomach and blood would come up to the mouth, but I'd also say that it could possibly be an infection of some kind that is making the lining of your throat and nose get dry or irritated and bleed but then they are trying to help this out by producing excess mucous, do you smoke?
I searched on the internet and got scared by something called posterier nose bleeds, but I couldn't describe this as severe blood loss. The mixture of blood and phlegm was thick and stringy and made it difficult to swallow, until a went to the bathroom and kept spitting into the sink until the blood stopped coming. I'm 34 years old and a non-smoker. I would say I was of normal health, and occasionally get nose bleeds from the front of the nose, from the back is a first for me.
Today, Saturday those symphtoms (cough, sore thoat and coughing up flem) appear to be gone. I returned to the internist this past Thursday, he took me off the anti-viral because it appears that it has not helped and he prescribed Ketoconazole an anti-fungal. (He also ordered blood tests for which I do not have results as yet) I started using this topical cream Thursday, it burned the first time. However, I have applied it as directed twice a day and no sign of improvement.
