Common Questions and Answers about Coughing phlegm bronchitis

coughing

Avatar m tn no fever but i was tired and the coughing was worse in the evening and in the morning i would get bad attacks and it was very hard to cough up the phlegm. The phlegm at the time was a thick grey/green mucous. I took some chinese herbs that helped me in the past and the cough finally went away after about 5 weeks. however i still have a residual cough at night and in the morning. not producing much phlegm now but when i do its lighter and easier to hack up.
Avatar n tn I have had Bronchitis for about 3 weeks now. I just went to the doctor, most likely viral bronchitis and he gave me an expectorant, and an inhaler (Salbutamol). The problem is that I am suposed to fly to South Africa on Monday and compete in a 3 day mountain bike race starting wednesday. The days will be very demanding and I am worried how my lungs will perform, moreover are there any possible short and long term effects. I feel totally fine.
Avatar m tn My bronchitis generally lasts for about 6 weeks...from the first sign of the yellow phlegm until the last cough. I get this every year...every year since I was born. It bites! I have tried antibiotics and coactifed ( cough syrup made of codeine) multiple times...never seems to work...except to constipate me. lol I went to see an herbalist this time. He suggested to use 5 drops of oregano oil three times a day under my tongue. Tastes awful, burns like crazy...hope it works.
Avatar m tn Hi not sure if anyone will know this but worth a try, i have smoked for 41 years mostly roll ups with no filters or anything, but about 3 plus years ago i started putting filters in and after a few months started coughing up green phlegm i asked the doctor he just said getting older and smoking, Some days it seems worse than others its really strange, i don't smoke load about 15 a day but there dead thin and i only smoke half at a time.
Avatar f tn Chronic bronchitis is caused most often by exposure to airborne pollutants such as cigarette smoke, excessive dust in the air, or chemicals. Bronchitis caused by allergies can also be classified as chronic bronchitis. Chronic bronchitis also can have an asthmatic component. Treatment for chronic bronchitis includes bronchodilators, anti inflammatory drugs, and chest physical therapy for loosening mucus in the lungs.
Avatar n tn I had bronchitis in my first trimester. I could hardly sleep because of endless coughing. I kept coughing up brown phlegm and my chest hurt. The doctor gave me some antibiotics for it. I refused the xray.
Avatar f tn I was on antibiotic for a wk. and now have pain in back..I also have copd.....now I am coughing up pinkish red phlegm...calling my lung dr. tomorrow...he will keep an eye on this matter.
Avatar m tn Okay so it started almost half a week ago I'd say.. I wasn't feeling sick at all, but for some reason I just started coughing up a lot of phlegm.. clearish to yellow colored. I don't smoke cigarettes, only on the occassional weekend. I do smoke pot. Anyways I thought the phelgm coughing up mighta been caused by some resin I was smoking, but they said that was black phlegm, not clearish yellow... So a few days pass of coughing up phlegm, and now I'm sitting here.. irritated...
Avatar n tn If you are coughing up yellow phlegm you have developed a drug resistant infection and need to go back to your physician immediately.
Avatar m tn No std makes you cough, and coughing MIGHT be HIV, but its almost always something else - a cold, bronchitis, acid reflux, allergies, dry air, asthma, etc. And any follow up to this needs to be posted in the HIV prevention forum.
Avatar n tn Your description suggests that you had both pneumonia and bronchitis and that the wheezing was due to the bronchitis. Sometimes with infectious bronchitis, the bronchitis can set off asthma that then persists after the infection is gone. That is what seems to have happened to your lungs. You should receive treatment for asthma or, what some people may call, asthmatic bronchitis. That should involve 2 inhaled medicines and maybe 1 oral medicine. With that, you should get good relief.
Avatar m tn and when it seems to be setting down it moves in to the lungs flaring back up into bronchitis with coughing that would last for weeks. It will completely drain you and leave you weak and lightheaded. A number in our area that picked up the virus, were weakened to the point of contracting secondary pneumonia. Your symptoms sound similar, bad news is I have seen this run it course from 4 to 10 weeks. It is nasty, especially for those with pre-existing lung problems.
Avatar f tn I cough up thick yellow phlegm and wheeze terribly every day from about 10 AM until 1 PM. By late afternoon I am absolutely fine. At night when I go to sleep I feel something (phlegm?) deep in my throat. However, I do NOT feel anything draining from my sinuses any more (as I did at the very beginning of all of this), nor is my nose runny, nor do I feel any sinus pressure. Allergy medicine has had no affect. Should I be worried? What could this be? Allergies? Infection? Please help.
Avatar f tn I have been getting over a recent bout of bronchitis where I was prescribed Augmentin (I am on Day 6) and Prednisone short burst (finished 2 days ago) I am still coughing quite bad but the fever has broke... but as of yesterday the phlegm/mucus I am coughing up tastes extremely salty. I have not been using any type of saline spray, or gargling with salt water, so I know this is not the reason. Is it the antibiotics causing this? Or is there another reason?
Avatar f tn Since about the second or third week post quitting I started coughing up this weird white/gray phlegm that has a terrible, bitter acrid taste that coats my mouth and back of my throat almost like an oil. Similar to bronchitis sputum but not green or yellow. There's no tar in it, no black bits, and it's always a small amount but it's once a day, every day. Usually after I eat. I hate it, it's disgusting and I'm not sure why it's still coming up! Anyone else?
Avatar f tn Right now I am bringing up slight yellowish phlegm, but most of the time its clear. Now I am being treated for Bronchitis due to phlegm, fever, cough, runny nose, fluid in my ears. I was told throughout the years that I had severe allergies, chronic bronchitis, COPD, asthma, I was just put on Zotex 12 1 tablet BID, and One Avalox 400MG. OD. After one day on these 2 meds, I am feeling so much better. I am still coughing, but the phlegm is not coming up like it should.
Avatar f tn ve coughing out phlegm non stop for the past two month. Its not bloody, but thick and green sometimes white and foam like. My chest also feels tight everytime i cough. I use the sprays and all but this problem is permanently there.
1373852 tn?1307843048 I wake up at night wheezy, coughing up white or clear phlem . I also have chest heaviness and itchiness in the chest area. I feel like there is phlem stuck in my throat and my nose feels stuffed. When it is hot out I get these same symptoms.could this be asthmatic bronchitis or something else. I took antibiotics and they didn't help so the doctor gave me avelox(a stronger antibiotic)I am afraid to take it because there are so many dangerous side effects.
Avatar f tn About 4 weeks ago, I developed symptoms that resembled bronchitis or some form of viral infection. I have been through a lot of different things the past 5 months - anxiety, stressed to the gills, etc- so I'm almost waiting to get sick because I imagine my immune system is fried at this point. So, I went to the doctor concerned about bronchitis and he did a COVID test that came back negative. He said my lungs sounded clear. No fever whatsoever.
Avatar f tn My husband has been coughing for at least three-four months and its getting worst everyday. He went to a doctor a month into the coughing and was "diagnosed" with broncitus. Two months later he's still coughing even more. He does cough up phelm, but its no blood in it (yet)! He's never smoked, never drank, 46 years old, he works "graveyard shift" at a place producing product labels. What could it be?
Avatar n tn For a month I have had phlegm from my sinuses, and I cough phlegm up from my lungs. The coughing is dry at times . I cough so hard that my muscles in my chest and lungs hurt. I cannot be in anyone's company because of the coughing, and spitting. What will help?
Avatar n tn I have had constant wheezing in my chest since Jan and it is now May 8, 08. I am very athletic, don't smoke, eat healthy and take of myself. I have gone to see the doctors and what they generally tell me is I have bronchitis and prescribe antibiotics which I have read don't work for bronchitis. They also tell me I have asthma which I developed as an adult. I just refuse to succumb to this diagnosis’s.
Avatar m tn Several times these past two years I've woken up gasping for air. I felt like I was about to suffocate. Eventually, I was able to breathe a bit more and more, and to cough away the phlegm in my airway. I went to an ENT dr who said this was a GERD issue, Acid Reflux. I've been taking medication for that and it may have helped, but I did get another attack today. I've also had a diagnonsis, today, of Bronchitis. I've had the phlegm for around a week now and another ENT dr.
Avatar f tn They gave me prednisone, which I had side effects of tingly numb feeling arms legs and face so I stopped that. Next day I wake up coughing up phlegm. Not just coughing slightly, but full blown gag cough fits that end with me throwing up. I finally get to an allergist two day's later, thank you weekends. He told me he thinks I have a virus but didnt say which.
Avatar n tn I would just like to say, ive got this same thing at the moment, and the pain is tight and horrendous, i was given antibiotics for bronchitis, i also have tried steaming, but im very congested and cant break up the phlegm, maybe its the congestion causing this pain .. i just wish the pain would go away. Also my throat is very dry, maybe its a bad bought off flu?
Avatar f tn I have always coughed up brown flecks in my phlegm. But now, I have been coughing up dark grey after having some chronically infected teeth pulled. Could this be a result of the local anesthetic injections, or a worsening of the copd? I can only get rid of bronchitis for about a month before it comes back every time. Antibiotics (doxicycline) seem to have the inside of my mouth raw, with white patches on my tongue and a few white blisters in mouth, also. Now I'm on Penicillin for the teeth.
Avatar f tn My nose is stuffed up on one side and there is clear and yellow phlegm present. I feel like my cough is coming from either my throat or deep in my chest cavity. I can breath fine when I'm not having a coughing fit, never smoked, normal appetite, no pressure or pain in chest, and no sore throat present at the time. If you have any ideas or insight on what may be going on, comments would be appreciated. Thank you.
Avatar n tn You probably have or had sinusitis. The infected mucus drains into the throat from your sinuses and makes you cough. Dark green and brown phlegm usually indicates infection, light green means it's getting better.
