Avatar m tn Your boyfriend should consult with his doctor to rule out any problematic heart issues. A serious heart condition are symtoms of shortness of breath and dry cough especially when lying down. For some insight, the complications of coughing can be classified as either acute or chronic. Acute complications include cough syncope (fainting spells due to decreased blood flow to the brain when coughs are prolonged and forceful) can be an explanation of passing out.
Avatar n tn The medical term for your husband’s attacks is, Cough Syncope (fainting or passing out). The immediate cause of this fainting is the hard cough that causes reduced blood flow to the brain and can quickly deprive the brain of oxygen. However, there are many causes of sudden hard coughing, one of which is what is called Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or “heartburn”) that irritates the larynx (voice box).
Avatar f tn First time I saw this she turned red in a coughing fit and passed out, fell to the floor. But my goodness, while driving? Is her Blood pressure falling or sky rocketing?
Avatar n tn Syncope is the medical term for "passing out" and fainting or passing out with harsh coughing is not uncommon, whatever the cause of the cough. The cough may be due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but you should not assume that. If you smoke cigarettes or marijuana, that could be the cause. But, you should check out the cough with your doctor on this and, at least, have a chest x-ray. Most chronic coughs can at least be controlled, if not totally eliminated.
Avatar n tn Hello. I've recently had a cold and lately I've noticed that every morning when I spit out some phlegm there are streaks of blood in it. When I started coughing, it wasn't there then but after a few days of coughing really heavily it started. It only happens in the mornings though after waking up. No blood comes up the rest of the day no matter how much I cough. It's been going on four about... I don't know, 2 to 4 days now.
Avatar f tn ve heard of girls having this happen and being fine, but it is always better to make sure with this. Coughing up blood can be a sign of a blood clot in the lung or something serious like that. Tell them everything. Stay calm and good luck!
Avatar m tn s - colonoscopies, bladder scopes (for the times he was also peeing blood with the side pain and coughing up of blood -- NOTHING -- so i am sitting here in the hospital right now while they look at me like there is nothing we can do -- no one knows -- so i am asking if anyone knows of anything that causes coughing up of blood every 60 days -- oh -- he has been tested for TB and that too was negative once the episode is over -- it's like he was never sick or in pain -- last night's episod
Avatar n tn Hi, Continuous cough can make small cuts inside an irritated throat and sometimes little blood can come out along with mucus. You should control the cough with some cough syrup and the blocked nose can be easily cleared by inhaling medicinal vapours like Vicks VapoRub.
Avatar f tn Have you had really bad morning sickness lately? Or been coughing a lot?
Avatar m tn Is the blood seen when coughing up phlegm and mixed with saliva? Do you have any bad teeth or gums, that could be the cause of it? If it's mixed with phlegm and you see blood, you should definitely go to your doctor ASAP (which you should do anyways with the gastric issues going on). If it's not associated with coughing, it is most likely related to teeth or gum issues and you should get seen by your dentist.
206807 tn?1331936184 Never had an esophageal bleed but once those vessels burst it entails a lot more than just coughing up blood. As a rule those blood vessels just don't seal themselves back up and bleeding out can happen quickly. Did you see Jeff Bridges in Crazy Heart? He was a bad alcoholic and towards the end the old boy was dying from the booze, p-issing himself, coughing up blood and on his way out. That was a pretty fair depiction of a raging alcoholic.
Avatar m tn She started coughing up blood not a lot but a little. The next day we went to the doctors to find out what caused it. And the doctors said that she had a cut in her throat.. She got better after a few weeks. So don't worry it's normal but if you have a concern you can go to your doctors about it.
Avatar n tn I told him that I was not coughing up blood nor had I been coughing up blood. My family doctor then stated to me that I would cough up blood and then it would be too late for me. I have trusted my family doctor for some years, but I felt this was a very negative statement by him to me. I have deeply researched COPD, try to remain encouraged and I felt this doctor was giving me an immediate death sentence. This has greatly upset me.
Avatar f tn Hi I've got a bout of flu and last night had several coughing fits (with mucus discharge). At some point it may have become blood stained but I didn't notice until this morning when I coughed hard and ejected reddish brown phlegm, about one inch in size. I thought it could be due to coughing too hard but I'm worried it may be something serious. Can someone help please?
Avatar f tn I have experienced this. Pass out during coughing fit with sever cold. And also I passed out during a spirometry test during a job required physical. But I was told by the doctor he thought I was having TIA, transitory ischemic attacks. Hope that is not true.

Avatar n tn They did manage to bring her back and no sooner did they kick us out of there! The doctor sure had a scared look on his face too. Lately she has been coughing up blood and her hand gets to tingling from time to time. She also gets short of breath pretty often. Without any insurance, where do we turn from here? Are there any places that do body scans at reasonable prices as we are not made of money.
Avatar n tn I had cold/flu in Dec 2007, since then i've been clonstantly clearing my throat of phlegm, it is clear phlegm. I'm not sure i'm meant to cough it up or not, but i'm scared to swallow it made me gag and a few months after my cold which scared me. This morning, I cleared my throat as usual, but 3 times there were traces of blood in it. It's still clear but just with little bits of blood in it, one was a streak of blood. There was alot more clear phlegm.
937826 tn?1261333879 I have another questions I have been doing alot of coughing been coughing up alot of plehm but for the past half hour I have been coughing up blood not a smear of blood but a half dollar size amount of blood each time should I worry about this.
Avatar m tn I am 35 years old male, smoker for 17 years, and this year started pretty tornado like for me. Problems started with blood running from my left nostril that i barely stopped. It was in march. After that i got sinus like symptoms, short duration pressure on my teeth, and above eyes which i stopped with painkillers. I got sent to sinus and chest x ray. Chest came clear, sinus - a shadowing of left maxillary sinus due to allergy.
Avatar f tn Not a large amount about 5p/dime size. The actual phlegm was clearish with a green/grey tinge. The blood was bright red. Needles to say, after reading everything online I am now scared witless! I am going to speak to my GP tomorrow. It has not happened since. Has this happened to anyone else and it be nothing scarey?
