Avatar f tn You may need to be eevaluated for other posible allergens, since allergies do get a little worse on lying down. However, there are other conditions of the respiratory and cardiovascular system which may need investigation. Coughs on lying down may also indicate some irritation to the lungs and thoracic cavity, by infections. This may require some investigation like a chest x-ray. Therefore, it is important that you see your doctor and get this investigated completely.
454606 tn?1361925680 I have also experienced a loss of sensation in my toes, and can no longer move them well. Since sitting up makes my pain worse, I have been lying down. I am on oxygen at night, but I have noticed in these past few days I become sleepy while lying down, so I put my O2 on to take a nap. The increased O2 wakes me up, and I feel fine, no longer sleepy. It makes sense to me that lying down is causing me the same problems I was having only during sleep.
Avatar n tn Elevating the head of your bed could also help if it is acid reflux. Coughing when lying down can also be a symptom of congestive heart failure. When I was undiagnosed with sleep apnea, I would awaken in a violent coughing fit like something had gone down the wrong way, and in retrospect realize those were likely times when my breathing stopped and had struggled to resume. Have you been seen by a doctor for this?
Avatar n tn I have turbinates hypertrophy that causes post-nasal drip but when I lie down I stop coughing completely and if the cough were caused by post-nasal drip it would get worse lying down. I was wondering if you could help me understanding what is causing this cough and how to get rid of it, thank you.
Avatar m tn When I am lying down is when it happens. I have had it happen before. I'm on oxygen, and I have spells of hard coughing.
Avatar f tn I never had mucus until recently and I wheeze at times mostly when lying down. Not only can I literately not laugh at all without coughing sometimes, unless very calm even talking presents a problem.
Avatar m tn Intestinal gas- belching and some bloating and trouble sleeping without dislodging gas. Some of my coughs were wheezing lower abodomenal coughs mostly lying down. Thank you for your reply. My current coughing fit are somewhat food related such as kiwi fruit (acid feeling inside), pineapple, honey, All Bran also less so sugar tasting foods though I somewhat get coughing when fasting or just lying down and chocolate . I tried Nexium before but it gives me severe muscle cramps.
Avatar m tn Since the cough comes when you change position while lying down, and all other causes are ruled out, In all probability, you are suffering from a bad gastric reflux. Treatment is a combination of drugs to reduce the acid and lifestyle changes.
Avatar m tn Also, is the cough worse at night or when he is lying down? If fluid is collecting abnormally in the lungs, lying down will cause a lot of coughing.
Avatar f tn Dry coughing may be a sign of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease)- the acid reflux can be worse when you are lying down flat. Try not eating two to three hours prior to lying down and put the head of your bed up at a slant/get a wedge pillow for your torso to be at a slant when you sleep/are lying down. GERD may mimic post nasal drip, according to one site, so if you had a cold, you might also consider whether or not you have post nasal drip.
1200240 tn?1289339687 Yes, six years ago I had congested heart failure. The congestion was fluid leakage into the lung tissues. The heart was weak and more blood was coming into the heart than the heart was able to pump into circulation. Fluids leaked into the peripherals as well. I wasn't coughing up blood, but lying down I had a choking sensation and dry coughing...thought is it was a lung problem but was shocked to hear I had had a heart attack.
Avatar f tn I am feeling sharp pain on both sides of my lower abdomin when I cough. I have noticed it happes only when I am lying down. Is it normal??
Avatar m tn all is going well except for the fact that when he lays down he has a coughing attack everytime. he is not coughing anything up but is really misable cause he cant sleep unless he is in a recliner. is this normal?
Avatar f tn I noticed when I lay down, when I exhale there is a quiet crackling noise. If I am not lying down, I can only hear it if I take a long exhale, like to get all the air out. I went to the dr for it and was told my lungs sound clear. I have a bit of fluid in my ear and no fever. Currently, there is only a cough on exertion and I am not coughing anything up (even with taking mucinex as my dr recommended).
Avatar m tn Hi, I am having headache only when lying down. It repositions if I turn to the sides, sleeping face down helps relief the pain. It goes away when I sit up or stand up. It's worse if I sleep on a firm pillow. The pain varies every night. Please advise. Thank you. Avatar m tn but he said that he never heard of them. There must be some truth to the idea that lying down causes more palps because it happens to me when I try to sleep sometimes. It is real to me, so you are not alone.

Avatar m tn dont know wether this is good or not but havent coughed up any blood this morning, but the pain has moved down to my lower right side of my back when lying down...
Avatar m tn I feel like I am drowning from the inside. This is especially bad when lying down, making sleep very difficult! It is also bad when bending over or sitting. After extensive testing over many years Doctors say it is caused by allergies or reflux. I have taken every immaginable drug to dry it up and every thing to prevent reflux but nothing not even slightly helps. When I have an especially bad bout, I am forced to eat crackers, graham type, to block or absorb what ever is producing it.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry to hear about your daughter. I also have a chronic phlegm problem and so have found out quite a bit about the topic. I think she either has allergies or reflux. In my case I have allergies. I lean more toward saying it's reflux for youe daughter because she feels so sick that she throws up - reflux makes one feel nauseous. Also, she gets it mostly at night when she's lying down and that's when reflux comes up from the stomach into the the throat.
Avatar m tn It got more frequent and usually when I was sitting down or lying down. Just over a month ago I got a series of sore throats, they’d get better then another would start after a couple of days. Whether or not I got a sore throat seemed to depend on if I lay flat on my back. I started to prop myself up and the sore throats stopped, but the cough is still there.
Avatar n tn The strange thing is that I do not cough AT ALL when I am lying down. Then one morning I woke up and felt like I had an elephant sitting on my chest and shortness of breath. I went to the Doctor and was diagnosed with bronchitis. She did an inebulizer (sp?) in her office that day, started me on a Z-Pack, Allegra and Singulair. At my week follow-up appointment I was not really doing any better so she added Prednisone and Flonase.
Avatar f tn The weird thing about my breathing by this point, was that if I were lying down or sat down for a fairly long period of time, I was fine, no coughing fits in an attempt to breathe properly. Again I wad told my o2 levels were fine and my lung function mostly fine. I was prescribed antibiotics to clear up the lingering viral infection and an inhaler to help with the (almost) constant breathlessness. Im yet to see if these help.
