Common Questions and Answers about Coughing in adults

coughing

Avatar n tn Hi, I'm 21 years old, male at around 65 kgs. My girlfriend is of the age (more on this later) I just have a few questions regarding pneumonia, and how easily (or difficult) it is transmitted in healthy young adults. Context: My girlfriend's aunt recently got hospitalized due to pneumonia, and my girlfriend has been taking care of her for about 3 days now. Now this may sound stupid and selfish, but my concern is her and me catching pneumonia too.
Avatar n tn The various causes of hemoptysis in adults are bronchitis, bronchiectasis, TB, necrotizing pneumonia, primary lung cancer. Massive hemoptysis common causes are bronchiectasis, tuberculous and other pneumonias and bronchogenic carcinoma. Dizziness could be due to blood loss causing hypotension. This needs to be investigated immediately by a pulmonologist since it could be serious. Management would depend on the diagnosis. Take care.
Avatar m tn Why is there such a large deviation or difference of opinion in different doctors on whether or not amblyopia can or cannot be treated in adults? Is it still because studies such as those conducted by McGill University (tetris) are relatively new?
Avatar n tn Then a week later the cough starts picking up-long after the adults think it is just a cold. Infants throats spasm shut and cannot get air. even adults can pass out while unable to get air in their lungs. I have it now, but still got my TDaP booster vax today because I have a 2 month old nephew. My brother just passed out coughing in the bathroom and woke up on the floor.
Avatar n tn I would take her to her physician as soon as you are able, it is certainly not healthy for her to keep coughing and vomiting. The coughing will hurt her insides if it is too strong and vomiting will prevent her from getting her much needed nutrients from food, etc. I really am not able to tell you what it is, it could be a number of things, and, as I said, it would be best if she saw a doctor. Please let me know the outcome, I know she must be miserable.
Avatar m tn m a 23 year old male, who takes Singuliar, 10mg, daily for asthma symptoms. However for the past few nights, I have been wheezing and coughing in bed at night to the point it disrupts my sleep, leaving me dragging the next day. During the day I do not wheeze and cough, just laying down at night in bed. Should I go see my doctor, or is this something due to change in weather (it has become noticably cooler in this area the past couple days), or something the medication will correct in time?
Avatar n tn His cough could be due to Bronchiolitis, which can cause bronchial spasm and repeated coughing, more so in the night. For therapy bronchodilators are given as syrups or inhalers. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn This might sound weird but it works 100 % ! Uaually with children doc always said to take vicks vapor rub and put it on the childs bottom feet rite before getting into bed then pit socks on and ur coughing will stop within 5 min! And it relaxes u and u drift off to sleep and dont cough for the rest of the nite. I tried this bc I had a bad bad cold a few weeks ago and I couldn't believe how good this worked! The internet says it works in adults too so try that !
Avatar m tn t been too concerned, since her whole school has had the same thing, and I know coughing in kids (and adults) can last for weeks. Still, it was a bad bout of coughing. The coughing fit came on about 10 minutes after eating the candy and followed a burst of energy (lots of running and jumping on the bed) and lasted 5-10 minutes. At no point did she have trouble breathing, although she sounded a little winded afterward, and her voice was small and raspy.
Avatar n tn That helps, but there is nasal drippage which sometimes causes the coughing. For the most part, the coughing is a dry cough and gets into coughing fits. Just today I had to leave church and have a coughing fit. Sometimes I have not made it to the sink before the coughing is so bad that I have thrown up a bit. I say that this is just allergies and the same old thing with which I have been dealing for the last 32 years, but my sister is convinced that I have this Reactive Airway Disease.
Avatar n tn These coughing fits go on for quite some time and she makes a whoop sound usually in the middle of a coughing fit, like she's trying to catch her breath and then carry's on coughing, we got another appointment with the dr and mentioned that I thought it may be whooping cough, the dr looked at me as though I was mad, and dismissed what I had told him, I said to him that she was whooping but on his report he wrote wheezing, and asked if there was any history of asthma.
Avatar m tn You said it in your description: "whooping noise." Everyone in my family has had this Whooping Cough, a.k.a Pertussis, this season. It started with my 16-yr.-old; then to my 1-yr-old (vomit inducing), then my husband and me. It skipped my 2 1/2 yr. old, but he also had an extended high fever, which must have killed the bacteria. I only realized it was whooping cough today.
9536744 tn?1414122031 Since babies do not have sinuses like adults then can get rsv which when caught early is easy to handle. If caught later the baby can end up in the hospital. My daughter had it just after she turned 1and we just had to use a nebulizer, but it happened to a friend of mines newborn and he ended up in the hospital for a few days.
Avatar f tn Still we don't know how this disease spreading even though without doing wrong habits....like improper sex and drugs.... And lot of them saying it will be acute and 95% adults spontaneously cleared the virus with their own immune system... I discussed lot of people in our country, they are also unaware and don't know how they were infected by the virus like as me....
Avatar f tn I believe it maybe with anti biotics....many children are coughing this year and adults it could be a virus that is going round .do some research in your area ..
Avatar f tn dealt with the high pollen and allergies and again fluid in the ears. Tomorrow I go to have tubes put in. I am extremely nervous because I will be awake for the procedure. Any advice as to what I can except, during and after?
1284078 tn?1271587111 My doctor is now going to refer me back to my old renal consultant as they just dont know what to do with me, as you know it is unusual in adults and frankly i think i am probably the only person they have ever seen with it (i live on a small island so thats not that far fetched) What gets me is that i have had a few years without any problems and i guess i got my hopes up that it was finally over. It is nice to know that i am not the only one out there going through this.
Avatar f tn I know Cradle Cap is used for babie's that have it but i just cannot remember the real name for it. Anyways my mum seems to have it and she's in her late 40's. The first time she got it was a few months ago, it started off with a severe itchy scalp and red itchy spots on her neck/back, then she woke up with a shock, her scalp was covered in yellow crust, it was awful she was so distressed, i had to get it out with a nit comb. That time she was suffering from stress.
