I think it is important to have doctor guidance. Typically coughing up the yellow or green sputum can mean bronchitis. Since this keeps happening, it's time to see a doctor, either in person or vitrually.

i was also never given a firm diagnosis. it began as an involuntary cough which produced thick sputum which varied between yellow and green, it progressed slowly and was not accompanied by fever. as it worsened i woke nightly from coughing, generally 3-4 times per night. the sputum from the lungs was never bloody. the cough was slightly painful, i never felt any sharp pains or rattling in my lungs. at 3 weeks i had a (clear) chest xray. after approx.

I've been coughing up sputum for a couple of weeks it's thick slimy and gross I can feel it in the back of my throat. It will range in color it rangesfrom brown to light green sometimes the green is speckled with brown I took some pictures of it my mouth is dry other than that there's nothing wrong with me no fever when I checked it thermometer acts and pains. Since about the second or third week post quitting I started coughing up this weird white/gray phlegm that has a terrible, bitter acrid taste that coats my mouth and back of my throat almost like an oil. I can only tell you that when you have green sputum it is some sort of upper respiratory infection or sinus infection. Either green or yellow. Sometimes there are no symptoms until much later. I don't know about the stains on your teeth. It must really be green. If you go to a doctor they will put you on an antibiotic.

It is usually not a problem, If it is yellow or green, or brown then there is some infection. White is a good color.

I trust her answer but, ive been having weird symptoms since then. The main symptom being that ive been coughing up yellow-greenish phlegm for about 2 years now and I have 0 clue what it is from. Have you tried an over the counter EXPECTORANT? Is your mucous clear or colored? Yellow or green mucous indicates a problem, unless you are a smoker... Chemicals in cigarettes cause a yellow brown tint to mucous. If this is persistent, SEE AN ENT EARS NOSE THROAT DOCTOR. They may order a chest xray or CT and should do a culture and sensitivity of your sputum. All of this testing should give you an answer. So make an appt with ENT doctor right away to make sure its not something serious.

I was given albuterol, and the first time I used it my lungs did open up (max FEV went from 350 to 475), I could breath better, but I also started coughing up some green phlegm. after a couple of days I had a low grade fever on and off. I went back, was given a z pack, and that seemed to help- no more coughing etc. But within the week I started to have night sweats and episodes of fever a couple of times a day, and have been coughing, sometimes productive, but mostly a dry cough.

ve noticed that there is a very small amount of blood on my sputum. i dont know if it is really from my lung or just because im forcing to cough out that "something" in my throat because i still got that feeling. i have'nt seen a doctor yet. what does all of this indicate? pls help me. thank you.

I dont think I would be alarmed unless it was yellow or green in color, these are signs of infection. Make sure you take your inhalers as prescribed, this should help over time. Good luck! May God Bless.

Around the first week of February, I ended up catching an acute throat infection, where I started spitting yellow-green sputum everytime I coughed. The intense coughing stopped after i got on the antibiotic Augmentin-625. This was given by my dad who is not a doctor, but is in the health care industry. Our family is not one who visits doctors for the common flu and etc.

It may be a virus but usually if you cough up green or yellow mucus it could be a bacterial infection. Do you have a fever? Is it a loose cough?

The very last 2 days of the Moxifloxacin course, my mucous finally turned pale. I'm still coughing up very pale yellow and clear sputum as opposed to the solid yellow stuff I'd had before. Pale yellow, almost clear is ok, right? A friend of mine said she was coughing up clear mucous for 2-3 months. Usually, but not always, the expelled mucous is discolored (yellow or green) when infection is present. The seeming improvement when given Azithromycin would be suggestive of infection. Your request for a Chest X-ray is justified, as she could well have pneumonia, either due to infection or to GERD. A culture of your Mother’s sputum/mucous would be appropriate at this time.

I've been suffering for the past 10 months with cold and green sputum and i was given antibiotics 4 times so far and its always recurrent, a month ago this happend agin but i only have taken claritin anti allerigic drug and did not use Airconditioner and it took care of it and didn't have to use antibiotics.

Now I feel better concerning cold symptoms but cough is worsening!! I can see some yellow sputum upon coughing with wheezing all the time and a little bit chest pain maybe because of excessive coughing.. What am I supposed to do now??

The usual presentation of a bacterial infection in the lung is yellow or greenish sputum.

r ecoughing up still has ANY color to it, even if it is a paler color than it was when the infection first started, that is definite sign that there is still infection there. Sputum that is ANY shade of yellow or green (or even brownish, etc.) is a sign of infection. With strictly an asthma attack, the sputum may be thicker than your norm is, but it still would be clear or whitish - no color.

Okay so it started almost half a week ago I'd say.. I wasn't feeling sick at all, but for some reason I just started coughing up a lot of phlegm.. clearish to yellow colored. I don't smoke cigarettes, only on the occassional weekend. I do smoke pot. Anyways I thought the phelgm coughing up mighta been caused by some resin I was smoking, but they said that was black phlegm, not clearish yellow...
