My tiny four pound Maltese/Poodle cross has been coughing and I was wondering if someone has any ideas. He is about 8 1/2 and has had issues with his behavoir. He won't let us have him groomed without him trying to bite us or get his nails trimmed, so every four months or so we have to have him knocked out to have this done. I wasn't sure if this was some of his problem from the stuff they give him or what, but he does it alot especially at night.

The sore throat went away after 2 weeks but the cough is still here. I have wheezing that is not present all the time. I also have gurgling sounds in my left lung that also are not constant. I have seen my MD and did levaquin and steroids. The steroids seemed to help for a while.

My 5 year old miniature schnauzer is 5 years old. She has started coughing and is becoming more frequent. It is almost a panting cough? She also has a bad odor. Which has been going on for a month or two.(odor). I have listened to her chest with a stethescope and she is breathing fast and it sounds thick and dry. You should discus the possiblity of acid reflux with your doctor. It can cause the symptoms you describe. It is important to control acid reflux or it can lead to very serious complications.

My 12 yr. old pug has been coughing for 3 months. I have been to two different vets and together they have ruled out collapsed trachea, kennel cough, pneumonia and heart disease. He has been on several different antibiotics and steriods. He is still eating as usual and the coughing seems to be worse at night. They are not productive coughs just dry hacking coughs. At the end of the month and into September, I developed a weird illness. The first day it was a sore throat and coughing and hacking up green phlegm in small amounts, sometimes it had blood in it when it came from the top of my throat. I had a slight fever of 99.7. It may have been a little higher, but never over 100. My nick was also very stiff the first day. One the second day, my throat was still sore and coughing up green phlegm, but the stiffness and temperature were gone.

She is an inside dog and we have a fenced in yard. She is only around our other dog who has no coughing issues at all. Is it possible that my Pug has allergies with all the pollen floating around in the air. We live in the woods in North Carolina.

Dear Pug Dad, On about Page 4 is a post entitled, "My dog has been coughing for..." and it's an old post. HIS dog, it turns out, did eat some burrs that got caught in his fur... and MY dog has been coughing and he also ate some burrs. Since it was an old post, he did not come back about it.

My Chihuahua has severe bouts of Coughing, Wheezing, Choking, & Breathing problems during the night. It seems to be a little bit better in the daytime. I've had him to Vet's, but after spending $1,000 + he has not changed. Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?

If you are coughing up green mucus, it actually means that whatever illness you had is coming to an end.

I just wish that someone - a good vet, would write a book on dog illness and what food is best for that illness. I also wish that the dog food industry was regulated better with understanding of what is needed for our pets health.

As for the heart murmur, the treatment depends on exactly what type of heart defect is causing the murmur. Since your vet predicted that the dog would start coughing, and the dog has in fact started coughing, I take it that it is not a benign murmur. In my nonprofessional opinion, most likely the murmur is due to valve disease, and the cough is a symptom of congestive heart failure.

m sorry, your dog just passed away. We asked her if she was sure that it was the right dog. ANGEL we said. She asked: The white dog right ? We were devestated...especially me- I was like yelling and my whole body went numb. My mom asked what the COD was- her answer: We don't know. As soon as we took her back she let go and she died. Later on Sunday evening, when we arrived back home, my pup Tedi began coughing. Not frequently but once every few minutes. I posted on here awhile back about my dog, Barney, He'd gone through a bout of heartworms a few yrs back. Now he is having repercussions from it. He was put on VetMedin, Enalapril, Lassix and Diltiazem. My husband thought he seemed worse lately with coughing constantly, so he stopped the meds for a few days. Now Barney isn't coughing but seems a little unstable on his feet....he's 11 1/2 yrs old. Does anyone have any experience dealing with this?

) this is something in the heart,it makes the heart double in size inturn making the heart struggle to cope as it hasnt got enough blood going round it,Tyson died 6 mnths later(we had him put to sleep cos he was starting to suffer) but the vet had warned us that with this illness a dog normally only lives for around 2 yrs with it!

The dr I took Elijah to last weeks said babies don't get sore throats, and she said babies don't really get sick. WELL Aubryana (DD 8weeks)has a fever today and has been coughing. Elijah (DS2) had an ear infection and a cold(?) I guess, I'm taking him back to the dr again tomorrow to see what's going on with his ear infection, and about the cough since he's had it a week and has a history of severe bronchitis. SO is my baby girl getting sick, or what?

Your dog seems to be very sick and I suggest you get to your Vet ASAP!! It could be a number of things from Parvo, something he ingested, etc. please get him in to be checked as this sounds serious and please come back to update. Good luck!
