1171933 tn?1263476758 My Chihuahua has severe bouts of Coughing, Wheezing, Choking, & Breathing problems during the night. It seems to be a little bit better in the daytime. I've had him to Vet's, but after spending $1,000 + he has not changed. Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?
Avatar m tn My 5 year old miniature schnauzer is 5 years old. She has started coughing and is becoming more frequent. It is almost a panting cough? She also has a bad odor. Which has been going on for a month or two.(odor). I have listened to her chest with a stethescope and she is breathing fast and it sounds thick and dry. I thoguht it was maybe just a case of dust because we mulched leaves (oak and pecan) and we didn't have a bag on the mower and it got pretty dusty.
Avatar f tn She is eating and drinking without an issues also. It sounds as if she is coughing up phlem but nothing ever comes up. Her breathing is fine, never gasps for air and there has been no voimiting either. She sleeps most of the night with out coughing. It sounds like kennel cough but I am pretty sure it is not! She is an inside dog and we have a fenced in yard. She is only around our other dog who has no coughing issues at all.
Avatar m tn He was coughing again yesterday evening and a bit overnight. I was watching him breathe and his breathing is normal (about 30-40 breaths a minute), he doesnt seem to be struggling when he breathes, just a cough/hack. I cant reeally hear rattling in his lungs but i do hear it in his throat. As you indicated, I really dont want surgery on him at this point. Thanks again so very much for your help. Its breaking my heart to hear him cough/hack like that.
Avatar f tn Has she recently been somewhere with other dogs? Possibly because of boarding or doggie day care? If so, she could have kennel cough... my dog has had it, and it's really loud snoring or coughing. If it is kennel cough, you will have to take her to the vet to get medications to get rid of it, because it doesn't go away on it's own.
Avatar n tn My dog has been healthy, and now she is not having any bowel movements, coughing up blood, trembling, and breathing hard.
Avatar f tn I noticed after the flu had went away I started having trouble breathing normally, oxygen levels are very normal but the feeling of not being able to take a full breath is still there and has been going for more than six months now. Sometimes breathing goes back to normal for a couple of days before the shortness of breath comes back again. I notice it when I wake up most of the time.
Avatar n tn hi please help. my dog started out coughing. now she is having a hard time breathing. she coughed up blood three times this week. the vet doesn't know whats is wrong with her.
5967085 tn?1377539802 In addition, he did state that down the road, we might have to discuss some other breathing treatments. Furthermore, I asked him if my Chihuahua’s coughing was related to her heart. My vet again said no, since the x-rays showed no abnormality and when he listened to her heartbeat, the vet ruled out any association between my Chihuahua’s heart and cough. Even though my Chihuahua’s cough is a life-long condition, her medication has no noticeable side effects.
8166105 tn?1396868458 Hi. Take a look at this article http://veterinarymedicine.dvm360.com/vetmed/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=608394&sk=&pageID=3 as it describes the ind of nebulizer your vet is probably talking about. It is common for pugs to have breathing difficulties, due to the extremely short muzzle (a genetic abnormality we humans have largely created through bad breeding).
Avatar f tn My tiny four pound Maltese/Poodle cross has been coughing and I was wondering if someone has any ideas. He is about 8 1/2 and has had issues with his behavoir. He won't let us have him groomed without him trying to bite us or get his nails trimmed, so every four months or so we have to have him knocked out to have this done. I wasn't sure if this was some of his problem from the stuff they give him or what, but he does it alot especially at night.
Avatar n tn Anyhow, your dog was an extra-large breed dog and at 12 years of age he was at the end of his life span, which could mean he simply died of old age. When a body expires, the nervous system no longer controls the sphincters in the body, so the anal sphincter can release the contents of the colon. The contents of his colon may have come out as diarrhea simply because it was expelled before the colon had time to absorb the excess water.
Avatar m tn There are many possible causes here. Food allergies and allergies in general being my top two suspects. My Australian Cattle Dog turned out to be allergic to a high quality dog food that we'd used for years. We now feed a grain free diet of venison. No more coughing. You milage may vary here. Try switching up your dogs diets and see if it helps.
Avatar f tn I gave him another antihistamine tonight and we sat in the bathroom with the hot water running for the steam, and now he is passed out and breathing okay. He is not coughing and there is no gurgling noise. He is definitely uncomfortable when I touch his nose, but this is nothing new. He walks backwards when he is trying to clear his nose, then he blows out snot. I will definitely call the vet tomorrow and see about getting his sinuses/chest x-rayed.
Avatar f tn My male chow dog was 4 maybe 5 years old and died this morning . He was coughing up blood and peeing blood and was weak and breathing heavy and fast . But he didnt start this until recently and it was too late to do anything .How did my dog die ?
Avatar f tn I took him to see a doctor after one night he was coughing too hard and long that he almost ran out of breath. The doctor gave him Albuterol to open up his air passage. He took the medication every night before bed for about a week, until he came to me one night very worried about his heart beating fast (Albuterol side effects). I stopped the medication since then. Now, I'm noticing my son exhaling like a puppy-dog. It first started with just one quick exhale of air.
Avatar m tn He also nearly wakes up every night coughing with trouble breathing and has to use his nebulizer(does the cold air have anything to do with this? We live in the bay area California so it doesn't get too cold.) I have been busy with school and such but have come to the realization that there is no excuse and I need to take this upon myself because others won't.
Avatar f tn i really have no answers but it sounds like her heart, with the breathing i know thats how mine was breathing when he was very ill with his heart. please know ya did a great job with her and gave her lots love.
553683 tn?1224545010 Help! our dog (i'm not sure what breed since he was just given to us when he was little) is having difficulty of breathing which just started an hour from now and we are panicking! there are no available vets here at this time, 2:00am, (I'm living in southern philippines) and we have no other contacts. Last year, he started to have this recurrent bleeding, hemoptysis. we went to a local vet after that and unfortunately there no available tests here. the vets here diagnose clinically.
4121556 tn?1350428560 My dog coughs as though he has something stuck somewhere, I cannot see anything, he eats quite well, Could it be lung worms or could it be a tumour? he often vomits.bile.He is old now, and his back legs are going, should he be put to sleep? euthenasia?
Avatar f tn I have a small dog I took in 8 years ago and he is now 15. A mix of poodle, terrier and something else. The past 3 weeks he has been having episodes. Always had breathing issues just like pugs but? He starts hacking and then seems to lose motor control and equilibrium. Tries to stand but can't get his bearings. Rolls his head around like he is out of it. I thought his time was up and took a week off work to be with him but a week later and he was good, like a puppy again.
Avatar f tn My 12 year old, 21lb mixed breed dog was euthanized on 11/16/13. She was diagnosed with CHF about 18 months ago, but showed no symptoms until April of this year when she began coughing. Putting her on Enalapril and Lasix had significantly reduced her coughing and she was doing fine for w while. She seemed to be getting tired more easily, but other than that she seemed happy. Then one day in July, she got excited and fainted.
Avatar m tn Hi I found your post very useful, I have a 10 year old Doberman and he recently started coughing and breathing very heavily, the cough goes on and off but his breathing remains heavy, I can see him breathing and his body moving up and down! He seems to be eating and he's still playful with my other Doberman. I know the thing would be to take him to the vet but he has been through a lot...
Avatar m tn But either later or the next day, for about 3 or 4 days I THINK, she was having trouble breathing, and sometimes she would make coughing sounds as if she were crying. Two days before she passed away, I showed my mom that our dog was sick, but she said no-that shes fine. On July 23, 2011, we scheduled for an appointment but they said 2:15- my mom asked if they had an earlier time- they said no.
Avatar n tn Itching stopped up ears, nasal discharge, hard swallowing, occasional signs of neck stiffness and stiffness all over after laying still, slightly weaker than before, Deep coughing, loss of some muscle tone, labored breathing, Edema from neck to back legs, some swollen glands, occasional sensitivity to touch, and the previous seizure. She is eating, walking, and sometimes playful. Is she having complications from Ear/sinus infections left untreated? or symptoms caused by cancer or bartonella?
