Avatar f tn Recently her ENT noticed a second lower stenosis in her trachea. She has wheezing, trouble swallowing and coughing up flem, coughing, stridor and fainting. They were so sure they were going to do the cardiac surgery. We even had the cardioligist tell us that the surgery schedular will be calling us. He then called a week later and said that they decided they do not need to do the procedure after looking at her MRI angiogram again.

Avatar m tn The vagus nerve is located near the trachea, When one experiences a severe episode of coughing the vagus nerve is stimulated. This may drop the blood pressure enough to cause a blackout. It is not unusual for a person to lose consciousness for a few seconds under these circumstances. Usually there is a co-factor, such as dehydration or anemia, but ocasionally there may be a cardiac componant. It would pay to have a general check-up, but I doubt you are epileptic.
Avatar n tn CORRECTION: The esophagus runs along the back of the heart, not the trachea. The trachea branches into two bronchi just above the heart near the atria. Abnormal heart rhythms are often associated with abnormal sequences of heart contraction which alters the movement of the heart within the chest. Any effect this has on the trachea would not be due to a direct rubbing as stated above.
Avatar m tn Even while eating if we happen to laugh and something goes accidentally into the trachea (windpipe), it causes coughing. If foreign object is present in the lungs, it may predispose to an infection. That sensation may be there in the throat. So, for something to lodge there it is difficult, but to clear doubts, can always have an X ray taken. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn MY 7 YEAR OLD CHIHUAHUA MALE DOG HAS BEEN COUGHING FOR THE LAST WEEK AND A HALF SOUNDS LIKE HE HAS SOMETHING STUCK IN HIS THROATH AND I HAVE INJECTED ANTIBIOTICS FOR THE LAST 5 DAYS
Avatar n tn Regardless of the answers to the above questions, if you are coughing up blood for more than a week, it must be examined, a simple chest X-Ray and bloodwork would rule out anything serious. Also, if you do large amounts of exercise, the prolonged heavy use of your lungs over periods of time can cause small amounts of 'pink mucus', but this should never happen regularly, or repeatedly.
Avatar m tn While it seemed to improve his blood sugar(I tested his blood), he had periods of excitement and heavy panting for hours. I was concerned about heart attack and I cut his dosage to 5mg three times a day, then 2. After a month of so, he started to develop a severe cough. Dry, but with almost every breath. This continues today, after 4 months. Out of desperation, I cut medicines out completely after dropping the dosage slowly for a week.
Avatar n tn I also am having issues with high blood pressure and am on HCTZ for that, and have high morning blood sugars. Am still a bit tired and have pressure behind the eyes as well as stinging eyes. I would welcome any suggestions from others too. I am waiting on labs just done today. We'll see.
Avatar f tn When I try and take my dog (Dex) for a walk, within a few minutes he begins making a coughing noise. The first few gags/coughs are usually not 'productive', but then he will start spitting/coughing up clear spit more often than not. Generally this is the worst at the beginning of the walk, and generally settles down about 20 minutes in.
Avatar f tn Gracie was a 3 pounds Chihuahua. she had A collapsed trachea. She would have horrible Coughing Spells. That's how she died.
785188 tn?1279928405 s pushing the trachea up, causing coughing); however, heart failure would be another differential or reason on why your dog is coughing. I'd recommend having your vet assess your dog; if needed, cough suppressants may be necessary once heart failure has been ruled out!
Avatar f tn My 12 year old setter mix has been coughing for years but I did not recognize it as a cough. It was initially only an issue at night when he would lay on his back and cause himself to cough a few times until I righted him onto his side!!! how silly. The past year it seems this has gone from only when on his back to happening mostly at night or when he just gets up in the evening. A few weeks ago it got really bad and became kennel cough with gagging.
Avatar n tn One of the things my vet mentioned when my chi started coughing for a few seconds was to make sure the water/food dishes were high enough they did not have to bend down to eat. That has really helped. I will say she gave the one chi a steroid shot....that helped as well. It has worn off and the dishes have continued to her from coughing as much. Just a thought!

Avatar f tn He does not have congestive heart failure, nothing is pressing on his trachea, and his trachea has not collapsed. His own vet thinks his trachea has or is collapsing, in spite of what they said at vet school. If he has none of these, what could cause this cough? In the last few months he has been getting a little something to come up. His lungs and heart recently checked out good. The cough is worse at night. What could be causing this and is there some different medicine we could try?

Avatar m tn I have two dogs, they are both 11 yrs old and have been healthy their entire lives. About a month ago, one of them began coughing- a dry hacking cough that comes on suddenly or after what seems like some difficulty breathing. She is a jack russell terrier normally around 20lbs and has gained about 3.5 lbs in the past couple months, which I'm not sure has anything to do with her cough. Anyway, she's been to the vet several times, they've done a EKG and chest x-ray.
Avatar n tn Pomeranians and other toy breeds are prone to a condition called collapsing trachea. This happens when the cartilage rings that hold the trachea open weaken and collapse inward, narrowing the trachea and resulting in a loud, snoring-like noise. Different things can trigger this from a coughing spell to vomiting to irritation by something (the air being blown into her face by laying in front of the fan, perhaps?).
