Avatar n tn Lol you made me laugh, you need to tell the truth to your doctor, when he asks if you were coughing up blood in the sputum, Have you had a chest x-ray? Pnuemonia can take time to go, and its not cured in a couple of days, trust me. i know, because i have had streptococcus pnuemonia myself. Dont be silly and rush back to work, you wont do yourself any favours. Good luck and i hope you get well soon.

Avatar m tn Is this blood in your sputum a 1 time event or have you had more episodes since? Tell me a little bit more about what is going on. If i understand correctly, you have been smoking for 3 years? How many packs per day? Do you have a fever? Describe your cough a little more.
782115 tn?1245684075 You are right to be concerned about the blood in your boyfriend’s sputum. Coughing up blood is definitely abnormal, under any circumstance. Given his age and long smoking history, the blood was probably due to his having chronic bronchitis. If so, that would be serious now and, even more so, later in life. This blood should be considered serious and, at a minimum, he should see his doctor and have a chest x-ray.
Avatar n tn I just woke up. i went in used the restroom.. felt something in my throat and hacked up blood. it was the first time i've done that. and there was no coughing before it. what could this be?
Avatar n tn Hi there, It is possible that you have burst a small vessel in your throat by coughing and this has caused blood in sputum. The common causes of blood in cough are bronchitis, irritation of the throat from violent coughing, blood clot in lungs, tuberculosis of lungs, vasculitis etc.Though you do not have any symptoms like coughing or shortness of breath you should see your doctor and get evaluated. A clinical examination and tests like sputum culture and smear, blood counts may be necessary.
Avatar m tn as it worsened i woke nightly from coughing, generally 3-4 times per night. the sputum from the lungs was never bloody. the cough was slightly painful, i never felt any sharp pains or rattling in my lungs. at 3 weeks i had a (clear) chest xray. after approx. 4 weeks i developed a sinus infection and my sinuses started bleeding, so i saw a doctor and was given 1 week of amoxyclav which cleared the sinus infection and slightly improved the cough, the sputum also turned white.
Avatar n tn You will need to consult your doctor who may need to do a sputum culture and sensitivity to determine what antibiotic the organism is susceptible to. He may even ask for repeat blood test and an X ray. Lung function tests could further help in evaluation. In the meantime try to take warm oral fluids and do steam inhalations prior to your meals. This helps to loosen up and bring out the secretions. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar f tn But, today after close to 3yrs, I found blood in my sputum { I had really pretty hot beverage, soup today, could that have anything to do with the blood}. Should I have to panic about this.. Because, as far as I have studied, MTB tends to gain resistance to the antibiotics more readily. The first time I was given heavy dose of them, I do not know if things ll work out the 2nd time. Please provide me with your valuable advise. Looking forward for your immediate response.
Avatar n tn my sister is a smoker for like 3 - 4 years maybe like 2 a day lately shes been coughing everyday 2-3 time a day and just this past 3 days shes been spiting blood in the morning what can this be we are very worried is smoking the cause of this
Avatar n tn Honestly, he should see a doctor if he has been coughing that long, especially with blood in his sputum. There are a number of things that could be the problem but without a proper examination and tests, there is no way to even speculate what specifically is wrong with him.
733681 tn?1231811440 I don't know how it's in the States, but here in Europe, you can get Cetirizine (Zyrtec) over the counter, and it worked pretty good for me. I use Aerius now, only because my healthcare insurance comp. doesn't pay the Zyrtec anymore. Coughing up sputum is common. You can also ask for a "Flutter" (I checked, it's got the same name in the USA), a device you blow on, and then it pulsates to, kind of, massage the sputum out of your lungs.
Avatar m tn Update on condition - yesterday dr heard rumble in lower left lung, I was devastated to hear that as I am such a worrier. She took blood and sputum sample and as I had doxycycline previously for original pneumonia she has given me a 3 day course of Zithromax to try and clear this infection by 'nipping it in the bud'. I am still getting chest pain which is central and have a wheeze in centre of chest which she says is inflammation of airways.
Avatar n tn It is highly likely that both are related to heavy smoking. And, yes, hard coughing can sometimes be a cause of blood in the sputum, but should it ever happen again you should definitely have your lungs checked-out. It is very likely that your symptoms will persist as long as you continue to smoke. There are many types of chronic lung disease, many of them called interstitial lung disease (ILD), and most of these are aggravated by tobacco and other smoke.

Avatar m tn 1.Cough with black marks and blood in it, yes correct. Am not coughing on a regular basis. Just on a normal cough, I can see that. And sometimes felling like liquid sinking inside my throat. Then I intentionally cough to bring it out. It comes with black marks and heavy white or yellow saliva or sputum with blood sometimes. If I try to swallow it, my heart start beating up quickly and got stomach pain, have to throw it away.

Avatar f tn Anytime you cough up blood is not good. You need to go to the ER for a chest xray. It could indicate a few things, pneumonia being one of them!
Avatar m tn hey guys, so here's a little history on me: i used to smoke from 2001-2008 from the age of 16-20 i had chronic colds that usually involved hard coughing and harsh blowing of the nose. i've had nose bleeding problems since i was 5 yrs old. in 2005, when i was 20 yrs old i had a cold and spit in the sink one day to find a tinge of blood in it. up to now i still have the same symptoms but they lessen the more liquids i consume..or maybe they're watering them down? don tknow.
Avatar m tn Hey guys, I quit smoking a few weeks ago because my sputum had a tinge of blood in it. nothing fresh, just a pinkish dot the size of a salt grain or 2. so far, it's been clear but I remember when it had originally started a few years ago when i had a really bad cold and was coughing my brains out every minute and blowing my nose like a trumpet all the time.
Avatar m tn Blood in one’s sputum is always worrisome especially when it persists for a month or more. It could be coming from your nose or sinuses or from your lungs, this last most commonly caused by smoker’s bronchitis. Rather than ignore this and/or wait for it to clear spontaneously, I recommend that you see your doctor or better yet an ENT specialist recommended by your doctor. You should also definitely also have a chest X-ray.
