Avatar m tn ) and the resistance for blood flow is low (reduce blood pressure). The inability to walk normally may also strain the heart and as the hip heals there may be a positive effect. Sometimes with heart failure (EF below 29%) the heart will enlarge and that may compromise and obstruct the electrical pathways through heart muscle and cause an irregular heart rate and then cardiac arrest may be the expectation.
1200240 tn?1289339687 Yes, six years ago I had congested heart failure. The congestion was fluid leakage into the lung tissues. The heart was weak and more blood was coming into the heart than the heart was able to pump into circulation. Fluids leaked into the peripherals as well. I wasn't coughing up blood, but lying down I had a choking sensation and dry coughing...thought is it was a lung problem but was shocked to hear I had had a heart attack.

Also, there is the sensation one isn't get enough air and that can cause hyperventilation and feeling of chocking....especially when is lying down...gravity has a bearing..sitting up can provide some relief...my congestion (pulmonary edema) was classified as mild.
Avatar n tn Coughing from heart disease and especially coughing at night is a symptom of Congestive Heart Failure. Congestive Heart Failure can give a dry cough or produce white or clear mucus. Has he been retaining any water around his abdomen? If he is, it would be suspicious for left side congestive heart failure which would be more serious than right side congestive heart failure.

Avatar m tn Those exact symptoms your father has put me in the hospital for several days 6 years ago with congested heart failure and mild pulmonary edema. I was shocked to hear the diagnosis as I thought I had a lung problem... What happens the heart doesn't pump into circulation effectively and the blood backs up into the lungs and fluids leak into the tissues.
Avatar n tn Heart failure is the inability of the heart to pump an adequate supply of blood oxygen into circulatory system to meet the system's demand. The result is often shortness of breath, muscle fatigue, angina (cheat pain, etc) would be the must likely symptoms. Your latest echo echo left ventricle size normal, overall function well preserved. focal region of dyskenisis involving basal septum and akinesis of basal inferior wall, EF is normal.

This scared us since one of the possible side effects of Lasix is kidney failure. He isn't vomiting and is urinating regular and not in places he shouldn't be. We're hoping this isn't kidney failure but possibly a stone. We have been feeding him the below basic diet.
Avatar m tn why this odd disassociation between heart failure and NSVT when there ought to be a corelation? Also, which is more unsafe- heart failure symptoms without NSVT or NSVT without heart failure symptoms?
Avatar n tn Vets are stuck on the idea that my dog has congestive heart failure because of a heart murmur and enlarged heart. But he was diagnosed with that heart murmur and enlarged heart 8 years earlier. No coughing until the last 2 months. Also, antibiotics would have little to no effect on congestive heart failure. Dog gets much better with antibiotic but it comes back after the pills run out. This is getting ridiculously expensive. Nearly $1K in vet bills over the last 40 days.
5967085 tn?1377539802 Welcome...This sounds like Congestive Heart Failure symptoms & given her age, it's very possible.........She needs to have an ECG/EKG to rule out heart disease.....
Avatar n tn Why have you decided against bypass surgery? blockages of 90,99,90% are severe and he could end up with a lot of dead heart muscle, causing heart failure. If the hernia isn't causing major problems, I would leave it alone. In many cases surgery isn't a long term fix. Just coughing can cause the muscle to re-open and cause the hernia again. I have a small one and the recommendation was to leave it alone.
Avatar m tn Xrays and ekg were done and the vet thinks ity may be congestive heart failure. There is a chance it is heartworm, so they are doing that test as well. If the heartworm was negative, they were going to start her on nitroglycerin and lasix to bring her heart rate down. They suggested I take to to an emergency clinic tonight so she can be seen by a cardiologist tomorrow. If they do administer the nitro and lasix, what more can the E.C. do overnight while waiting for the cardiologist.
Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Symptoms of heart failure are breathlessness aggravated by exertion and dependant edema. The light headedness may happen if there is inadequate supply of oxygen to the brain. This can happen with cardiac disorders or lung disorders. In cardiac disorders there is inadequate pumping of blood and in lung disorders there is inadequate oxygenation. It could also be due peripheral arterial blood disorders.

Avatar f tn Hello, newbie here. 13 weeks ago I had sudden swelling of both ankles (no pain involved). Thought this in some way was a result of recent physical activity (boxing class 1x week). 1st doc said fallen arches (incorrect-arches are fine). 2nd doc -orthopedist, foot structure is fine. 3rd doc checked for blood clots in the legs-no sign of clots. After I insisted on more info with regard to the swelling, she basically threw her hands up and said she had no clue, try an anti-inflammatory.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Congestive heart failure last September when I went to the hospital through the emergency room. My symptoms were swollen feet and legs, hard time breathing ( I have COPD and take meds for it, but even after all my meds I still had a hard time breathing) and coughing continuely. I was told to go to a Cardiologist when I got out, which I did. The dr. after seeing me for only 5 minutes told me I did not have CHF. He said that if I needed to see him again I could.
Avatar n tn Other conditions associated with these symptoms - if they are occurring frequently - include congestive heart failure, bronchitis or congenital defects (abnormalities from birth). These are conditions only your vet can truly diagnose and advise on treating, so it is worth asking him about them sooner rather than later. Has your vet done a full blood analysis? Has he inspected and checked your dog's heart and lungs? Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn t able to pump enough oxygenated blood out compared to the input from the lungs and congested heart failure occurs. Your father has concomitant health issues that may slow recovery, but with the proper treatment and care he should have many years going forward.
1402901 tn?1283134912 Expect and accept that regular monitoring and less frequently, medication changes, are a normal and expected part of managing heart disease. Your dog can expect good quality of life well into congestive heart failure should that occur (defined as fluid accumulations, particularly in lungs as heart becomes inefficient) if you ensure that the little things are done at the right time. Your doctor is best situated to advise you in this regard.
Avatar n tn At the ER, they found no congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, or pneumonia. Their diagnoses was Bronchitis and Sinusitis. My question is; even though nothing was found at the ER, it made me think of how I have been feeling for well over a year now, and I wonder if these are indeed possible symptoms (indicators) of having Congestive Heart Failure. These are the most prevalent symptoms I have: 1.
Avatar n tn Metoprolol is a beta-adrenergic blocking agent that is used for treating high blood pressure, heart pain, abnormal rhythms of the heart, and some neurologic conditions. Metoprolol is generally well tolerated. However, this drug may reduce blood flow to the hands and feet, causing them to feel cold. Smoking may worsen this effect. Some side effects include: symptoms of a very slow heartbeat (e.g.
