Common Questions and Answers about Cost of lipitor in us

lipitor

Avatar f tn Thank you for your input. I should say the clinic did give me the simvastatin first but then switched to Lipitor. They themselved said it was better. I've heard of Lipitor going generic in a few years - maybe that influenced their decision to switch patients now. I just can't understand how they can override the cardiologist without any chance of appeal. I will speak to him again and see if he thinks he should intervene.
Avatar m tn I've never heard of a statin causing anxiety, which doesn't mean it can't, but nowhere in any of my books on pharmacology does it link statin use with anxiety. Perhaps you have a very high sensitivity to something in them that is causing this reaction. What does your doctor say? I know he said he'd never heard of it, but did he research the other ingrediants in it as opposed to those in Lipitor? My next advice would be to talk with a pharmacist.
Avatar m tn , Neena to me, Sally OPR dtp PFIZER LIPiTOR show details Apr 22 (3 days ago) Hi Dan - so you're taking about an ad placed in the US. In that case, I'll refer you to my colleague Sally who is based in NY and since you're in the US. She'll the best person to help you out. I'm glad Lipitor helped you. I think we were confused when you said that you were a reporter in Taiwan so they referred you to me as I work with reporters in Asia.
678451 tn?1226425977 Is Crestor a better medication than Lipitor in view of the recent study and exposure it has gotten. Or, do they do the same thing since they are from two different drug companies.
Avatar n tn I take 40mg of Lipitor and have again found they seem to come in a variety of forms. My last ones were very large, shaped like capsules, but this time they are not much bigger than my aspirin. Perhaps the pharmacy can ask their suppliers to give the smaller ones? making swallowing a lot easier? I would like to see someone break my 1.25mg beta blocker in half lol. They are so tiny, I end up dropping half of them on the floor trying to grip them.
10996785 tn?1432812977 Many of us on this forum care a lot about you and all of us journey with you in your struggles as you do with us with our various struggles. That's the heartbeat of this forum, ya know? There are many more new studies out today about statin drugs. My hubby just recently made the decision to go off his statin drug as well. I also have a friend here on MH that recently chose to stop taking her statin drug.
Avatar m tn The Lipitor will cost me $130/mo., the Lovastatin will cost $5/mo. Aside from the obvious cost difference, which RX is better? The bottom line is that I really do not want to take a statin at all BUT if I have to take one, I want to take what will work the best at lowering my LDL levels. Also, if I've been taking a statin for a few months, can I just stop taking it? What happens if I stop?
Avatar n tn m 67 also, had a heart attack nine years ago, but have a lot of stents in between, so your husband and I have lots in common! I also recently experienced increase fatigue, some unintended weight loss and I'm short of breath, and a stress test last week indicated new blockages, I'll see the doc next week to see what's next for me.
Avatar n tn My husband had what we thought was a Heart Attack last week, when we got to the hospital & they did some test, they told us he has Aneuresym's in his Arteries of his heart & that there is severe placque build up. They sent us home the next day too see his new Cardiologist in 2 weeks as well as blood thinner (baby asprin, High Cholesterol meds, rest, etc). What can we expect from this & is this a common thing?
Avatar m tn I am little scared if I stop taking Lipitor, does it will occur any heart attack or blockage in arteriy or any other risk for me.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor (20mg) and my wife has been taking Simvastatin. Prior to being put on medication, my cholesterol had been running about 205 for a long time and my wife's had been around 160. What is the difference betwen the two? My medication is considerably higher than mine? Can you explain why? My blood sugar was running abot 137 so my Doctor also put me on Actoplus as well. My Lipitor is about $100 and my wife's Simvastatin is about $6 (same quantity of tables-30).

329165 tn?1515471990 Remember, statins have been around since 1987 so they have 25 years of data to look at. In fact, as researchers are starting to do meta-analysis which roll up almost 200,000 participants in multiple trials do not show any long term damage or reactions. In fact, statins users are still protected from their use for up to 5 years after stopping their use.
Avatar m tn My doctor has now prescribed 80 daily mg of Lipitor. This seems to be quite a change in dosage and the Lipitor pill is too large to be taken whole.
206807 tn?1331936184 However what concerns me right now is the various rebellions in the countries in the mid east not becauase I would want any of the leaders in place but because I dont know whats replacing them. I dont see any shifts to a democracy and quite the opposite. In some ways it reminds me of when the Soviet Union broke up. However there at least some of the countries became working democracies.
Avatar n tn We both - husband and wife, have been experiencing these symptoms. We have been on simvastatin for (wife for 1+ years, me for 2+ years) and stopped about 5-6 months ago - wife still having pains in the butt some dizziness and leg pain, but getting better - I am having butt pain and leg pains, swollen left knee, (but joint pain seems OK on stairs), recovery seems slower than my wife's.
469720 tn?1388146349 So often, we blame the drug companies for the high cost of drugs, and usually rightfully so. But in this case, the fault clearly lies with the pharmacies themselves. For example, if you had to buy a prescription drug, and bought the name brand, you might pay $100 for 100 pills. The pharmacist might tell you that if you get the generic equivalent, they would only cost $80, making you think you are 'saving' $20.
Avatar f tn My husband had stroke in June 2013 and that time his cholesterol was high. All the results were OK so they blamed high Cholesterol for stroke. Since June he is taking Lipitor regularly. Last week he had heart palpitations, shoulder pain in both arms when try to lift the arm and coldness in the right hand. He was in hospital and all results are ok . Dr don't know the reason of the shoulder pain. But my husband thinks that this is happening becoz of Liptor .
Avatar n tn I know what you mean about the cost of medicine. Funny how too similar medicines can have such a cost difference. Just because they still have the patent, they are allowed to rape the public of their money. Wonderful health care system we have. I been paying insurance premiums my whole adult life. Now I have to pay close to $5000 out of pocket over my health. Something just isn't right there. I wonder if these doctors get kick backs for prescribing more expensive medicine??
Avatar m tn It's not hard to think of all the good that money could do if it was used here in the US.

Avatar n tn My husband has no history of MI and no hx of heart disease. He is on Lipitor and his cholesterol is great now. Also he has psoriatic arthritis and since that is an autoimmune disease could that be part of the problem at all? Can you please explain all of this to us?
Avatar f tn There is no real advange in the DUO and the cost of the test is 3 times the cost of a standard antibody test.
Avatar f tn In California, it cost us about $18K out of pocket with all the meds (my husband had to do an extraction, though, so that tacked on $2500). The cost can vary some depending on what your particular issues are. But yes, it's very expensive if your insurance does not cover at least part of it.
