Coreg beta blocker

Common Questions and Answers about Coreg beta blocker

coreg

Avatar f tn Reduce cardiac workload...I take an ACE inhibitor and a beta blocker (coreg) to reduce the heart's workload. The ACE inhibitor dilates vessels, etc. and most beta blockers slows and stabilizes the heart rate, but Coreg is not just a beta blocker, it also has some ACE inhibitor characteristics as well.. Doesn't the AICD control the heart rate and negate that aspect of Coreg?
Avatar m tn In addition, feelings of fatigue are common with all classes of beta blockers. Carvedilol, or Coreg, has slightly more potent blood pressure effects but are otherwise fairly similar to metoprolol. Hope that this helps.
Avatar f tn I have stopped the omeprazole so I reckon this makes you correct in that the beta blockers must be the culprit. As I was on a different beta blocker to you, I assume most will give us the same symptoms, but it's worth asking your GP for Omeprazole or something similar. I was only taking 20mg every morning.
Avatar f tn I just read up on Coreg - - beta blocker, and on low blood pressure. Beta blockers can cause heart damage which then can cause low pulse - hense low blood pressure. He has 5 stents and is on crestor & plavix. He's also taking a multi vitamin & Omega 3 supplement. Can he stop taking the Coreg? Is there an alternative? He's strong and very active - physicallty & sexually. He's also taking Co Enzyme Q-10.
Avatar n tn The ACE inhibitor dilates (relaxes) blood vessels, and a beta blocker slows the heart rate. But coreg as a beta blocker also has the ability to relax vessels. Sorry for the confusion.
Avatar f tn This drug is also known under the brand name of Coreg...it is a beta blocker used to treat hypertension among other things. How high is your heart rate?
341655 tn?1240368839 The Coreg is a beta blocker and may lower your heart rate. I am on Atenolol 25 mg a day. This is also a beta blocker and has lowered my heart rate. Hope things get better.
Avatar m tn ve always been athletic and had a difficult time not going all out when exercising. I am also on an ace inhibitor and a beta blocker. Coreg 7.5mg and Cozaar 25mg. Before heart problem was running 71/2 to 8 minute paces on miles now lucky to run 10 minute and don't seem to have much stamina or wind.
406399 tn?1201884300 But I did not have high blood pressure, which can be dangerous if untreated. I had much less side effects on that Beta Blocker (the Coreg), but it's still a beta blocker. And even so, it might not be the best one for you. I think toprol, of all the betas probably has the most side effects. Keep pushing your docs, there are other beta blockers with less side effects.
Avatar n tn Newer beta-blockers such as carvedilol (coreg is a beta blocker and ACE inhibitor, slows hr and lowers bp...my medication) or nebivolol are better tolerated. These beta-blockers have a vasodilating effect, which may beneficially affect systolic blood pressure in the aorta. Their long-term cardiovascular outcome in hypertension is still not known. Further studies would be required to show that stroke is adequately reduced by these newer beta-blockers.
Avatar n tn You are correct and thank you. Beta blocker lowers the heart rate by blocking B receptors and Atenoplol is a beta blocker that only blocks the alpha receptor. I believe the alpha blocker is a better choice than a beta blocker because it is a positive inotropic agent for CHF as it increases the contractility force of a heartbeat...but it will increase the HR rate as well. I take coreg and that is a beta blocker and alpha blocker and recommended for CHF. Thank you. Ken.
Avatar n tn I had the problem with coreg (beta blocker and ace inhibitor). Coreg Cr is a single slow acting dose, and the same coreg dosage split to twice a day (morning and night) was more effective. Talk to your doctor.
10287982 tn?1443815735 Is it me or is 107 just not that high? I really, really want to avoid the beta blocker if possible. I wore a Holter monitor for 48 hours and it seemed to show nothing untoward. Anyone have thoughts about this or similar experience?
907968 tn?1292622204 A beta blocker like Coreg or Antenolol is usually started with a very small dose as the effects can be huge when starting out. For example, I was given 3.175mg Coreg X 2 daily, and the effects were strong. After a couple weeks, my body got used to it so that was doubled, and doubled again until I was taking 50 mg daily. That proved to be too much so my dose is now 25 mg daily. The same procedure is usually followed with ACE and Calcium blockers.
343006 tn?1314446471 I will be stopping my ccb verapamil and dieretic maxzide - within a few days from now - and will be changing to a beta blocker Coreg. after reading online im wondering if changing without waiting 24 hours inbetween the change over - if I can have a interaction between the ccb and beta blocker meds ? as Doctor said nothing about this ! also doctor said very few people have problems on this med Coreg ? I tend not to belive that, as im reading all the side effects listed !! there are meny !
Avatar m tn To mechanically increase blood flow, how would that eliminate the need for a beta blocker? Beta blocker (coreg) helps the heart with stronger contractions and relaxation of the blood vessels. A stent does not make a healthy heart??? That's my point the under lying cause remains and coreg helps. Medication, stent, bypass increases blood flow and relieves the symptoms of an occlusion, it does not cure anything!!!!
Avatar m tn Definitely try another beta blocker. I started with toprol (metoprolol), which did NOTHING for me. In fact I would swear up and down that it actually made my symptoms worse. Next my doctor tried coreg (carvedilol) with me. Coreg not only acts as a beta-blocker (slows the heart rhythm and reduces the force of the heart's pumping, lowers blood pressure) but as an alpha-blocker (also lowers blood pressure). Coreg was exactly what my body needed.
Avatar m tn Beta blockers in no way are a cure for PVC's but they reduce blood pressure and therefore reduce the force of the contractions of the heart. You should become less aware of your heart beating while you are on beta blockers. Sometimes beta blockers can reduce the frequency and numbers of PVC's but usually do not get rid of them completely. Someone that is plagued by PVC's a beta blocker is a good safe choice.
Avatar f tn Coreg can make a person feel extremely tired and loss of energy. Coreg is the best beta blocker as it blocks more receptors than Tropol XL. There is a medication that is being used in Europe that hopefully will be here in the US soon. It is a combination of Coreg and Tropol XL, I believe. This gives all the benefits of Coreg and reduces the tiredness that people complain about. Our relatives in Europe use the medication and have energy to travel to US and all around the states.
214864 tn?1229715239 Since then my angina has been much better and I like Coreg for the alpha blocker it has. It is the number 1 recommended beta blocker for heart failure. Yest I cannot take the weight gain, which is a side effect that a high percentage of people who take it have gained lots of weight. You can go to "ask a patient".com and look up what people have written about side effects of many, many drugs. Bystolic is not listed.
Avatar m tn Patients who have suffered a heart attack and/or with known coronary artery disease should be on a beta blocker of some sort. Cavedilol is just one of many different types of beta blockers which also has some effects on lowering blood pressure as well as being an important medication for those with a history of heart failure. However, there are many other beta blockers that can be utilized such as metoprolol or atenolol.
Avatar n tn Hi - 49yo male in otherwise good health, had an mi and placement of 3 stents in RCA. Was told that there was no damage to my heart, and have returned to all activity including hi-intensity workouts (which I was doing pre-mi). I've put on about 30 "pity-pounds" (from 185 to 215) and despite increase in exercise and near-saintly eating habits, having a hard time losing. I suspect that Toprol is causing this problem.
