Copaxone liver damage

Common Questions and Answers about Copaxone liver damage

copaxone

1896537 tn?1381900009 I think it really is a very personal choice. I can see why you would choose Copaxone if you are concerned with liver damage. Alternatively, is it possible that your doctor would be willing to monitor your liver a bit more closely in choosing Avonex?
387113 tn?1313512083 I'm still in limbo land so I have no med advice, but just wanted to say that I'm glad that you finally got an answer. I'm sorry it is MS but at least now you know for certain and can get on with the DMDs. You know that everyone here will jump in to help inform you on the meds so you can make a good decision for yourself. So are you okay now knowing for sure what it is?
Avatar f tn Having said that, have you ever tried Copaxone? It has no flu like sx and no potential for liver damage so it has a lot of appeal! I hear lots about jab reactions but I had no pain whatsoever and no skin reactiions apart from immediate redness. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I think I can handle flu-like symptoms, but I what about possible liver damage (I only have one liver!), heart problems, skin damage, drop in white blood cells (I'm pretty sure that I need those!), throat constriction, etc. It seems like a majority of people are on Copaxone, but I hate the idea of DAILY injections. Some of the meds are only once a week or three-times a day which sounds more manageable. Is anyone on here on Gilenya? Any feed back that you could share?
Avatar f tn It's not really at what level is serious, Now if your levels to start out with were 4x the high limit, then your doctor would have order additional test immediately. You have an elevated level and it keeps rising and not leveling off or dropping. If this continues your doctor will do a CT scan and/or an ultrasound of your liver. There are a number of conditions that cause elevation of ALT enzymes. As simply as eating fatty foods, to all types of hepatitis.
Avatar f tn copaxone does not have the potential to cause depression 4. copaxone does not have the potential to cause liver damage so there is no need for routine follow-up blood work, like the inerferons.
923105 tn?1341827649 t go prepared with facts, so continue to collect accurate information. Ess is (of course) right on about the potential for liver damage. Interferons can cause it. Alcohol can cause it. I bet mixing the two more than doubles the risk. Alcohol shouldn't be mixed with Baclofen, antidepressants, pain medications, etc. You are right -- It simply isn't helpful in the long run.
382218 tn?1341181487 I had asked him if I could try Copaxone after Rebif, and he was very specific about expressing concern about my active MS course and not wanting to take more time to wait and see if Copaxone would work for me, meanwhile more neurological damage may be occuring. He described Novantrone as a chemo drug and said it is followed up with Copaxone, and this has been found to be very effecting with very active early RRMS. I've read the studies and believe he is quite right about this.
1936411 tn?1333831849 I've flown many times with my Copaxone, never had a problem with the syringes from the change in air pressure. Like you I'd assume they're still fine to use even if they leaked a bit, as they're still sterile in the packaging. Might not hurt to mention this to Shared Solutions and see if they are aware of this problem. As for the lumps, what you're experiencing now isn't lipoathrophy or even the start of it.
382218 tn?1341181487 I appear to be in the same boat as Ess and Gollie, however my problem is with Rebif. My liver enzymes were up, then down, now up again. I am apparently in the 3.7% of patients whose liver enzymes elevate on the low dose of this drug. My neuro has taken me off the meds, for now temporarily but possibly for good. He wants to monitor my liver enzyme levels until mid-June and then make a decision. If they are back down, and my condition is stable, he may have me try Rebif again.
1508160 tn?1289920302 Was just informed earlier today by my Neurologist that my liver enzymes were up to 186 from 72. This result in just 30 days from last blood test...yikes!! He is now having me switch from Rebif to Copaxone after only two months. The only side effect I had on Rebif was red spots at the injection site. Wondering if anyone else has had this happen, and what side effects, if any Copaxone has compared to Rebif therapy. Thanks in advance for any responses.
4152590 tn?1350772856 thank you everyone for your input.... yes, the Dr has suggested that Copaxone would probably be better for me to try. I just want my liver to get better first. I know the Copaxone isn't supposed to affect the liver, so I guess it's a psychological thing for me. I really hate taking any drug, especially such potent ones. I haven't had tylenol, ibuprofen, or alcohol since the first elevated liver results.
Avatar f tn I am so scared I have caused damage to my liver. After I get off of these will it repair itself or am I in trouble. The only syntom I have right now is welling in my akiles and feet. But i have taken fluid pills for the fluid for yrs before I started taken lorcet.
1196859 tn?1266134938 I have been on both Rebif and Copaxone. I was on Rebif for about 5 years, and I have been on Copaxone for two. I didn't have any problems with the Rebif except for the high liver functions. That is why I am on Copaxone. I think there is no difference in the injection pain. They both were very minimal. My worst pain was in my arms for some reason. The daily injections aren't bad, especially since you don't get sick.
Avatar m tn The recommended dose of paracetamol for a single adult is two standard 500 mg tablets. Researches have reported that the threshold for liver damage to start from a single paracetamol overdose is 15 gms (30 tablets). However liver damage could start to occur at a single overdose of 24 standard tablets or 150 mg/kg body weight, (whichever is the smaller).
Avatar f tn (Former drug user) what are the chances I already have liver damage??? I go in the morning for a liver scan to check and I am nervous to know!!!
Avatar n tn Is it possible to cause liver damage from a few years of pain med abuse? Damage severe enough to cause stomach pains?
Avatar n tn I have been taking Darvocet for about two years now. I began just taking one a week at night after a bad day and it has progressed to 1-3 daily for about 6 months now. I went to the Dr. for a checkup yesterday and the ALT liver function test was high. The other liver tests were normal just that one was high. The Dr. thinks it is from my acid reflux medication and is changing that but I rarely take it. Could it be the Darvocet?

Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me what it's called when you have liver damage from medications
Avatar f tn The only way to truly ease your mind is by being totally honest with him/her. I have liver damage and kidney damage due to drugs stage 2 liver stage 3 kidney.. if your liver were damaged and you had a flare your belly would be extended/pain upper right you would be lethargic/vomiting.. other symptoms but these being severe.. It is not fun and I would not wish it on anyone.. I contracted hep C from slamming and further continued the damage through pills/alcohol..
Avatar n tn I have never been to hospital, I dont appear to have yellowing of the skin or eyes. What is the likly hood of damage to my liver, and if stoped now could my liver possibly recover from and damege.
