Converting toprol xl to metoprolol

Common Questions and Answers about Converting toprol xl to metoprolol

toprol

Avatar f tn I have a wonderful (and high profile) cardiologist in Boston (who performed the ablation). He put me on flecainide (worked up to 75mg/day) and 50mg/day metoprolol. It worked at first - not a blip. But then I started having frightening episodes of SVT, which brought me to the ER, and eventually hospitalization. He took me off the flecainide which seemed to be the cause of the SVT. I also have atrial flutter now.
Avatar n tn Karen, somethat I wanted to mention to you with regards to your Toprol dosage. I'm almost positive that Toprol XL dosage is the same as Metoprolol. Toprol XL is merely a time release version. (BTW, you could save a lot of p;rescription cost by taking Metoprolol) If your dosage is 25mg per day, this is a teeny weeny dose, the smallest available. By contrast, 400mg. has been administered to other patients. I was on 200mg. at one point, and at 200 pounds, I was a zombie at that level.
Avatar m tn By the way, the reason he switched me from the non-XL to the XL version is because I asked him if I could have less medication (since he would not let me off completely) than the 2X 50mg Metropolol. He was reluctant and then said okay, and prescribed the 1x 100mg XL version instead. Then, he had to rush out to the hospital. leaving me with the question I could only ask myself, "Hey, isn't this really the same dosage?" I have the feeling he tricked me, to get me to shut up.
Avatar m tn Combining these medications may significantly increase the blood levels and effects of silodosin. This may cause blood pressure to fall excessively and heart rate to increase, especially when you rise from a sitting or lying position. The risk of other side effects such as dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, headache, flushing, nasal congestion, heart palpitations, and priapism (prolonged and painful erection unrelated to sexual activity) may also increase.
Avatar m tn I was put on toprol xl. Metroprolol is the generic for toprol xl. I stayed on it for years. I usually took 50 mgs twice daily or 100mgs daily. It is a very mild arrythmia medication. It slows the heart rate and helps keep you from going into afib. I could not take the generic metroprolol... It gave me flu like symptoms... bronchittis, chest congestion etc... but the toprol was fine... It worked about like you are saying it works for you..not perfect but helped. I took it for years...
Avatar f tn Hi, I have the same PSVT as you, 250 to 280 BPM. I also take Metoprolol which has brought it down to a manageable level. I get fewer episodes of shorter duration, which I can most times convert myself (I could never do that before). Yes I do get side effects from the drug, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, and some depression. Is it worth it? So far yes, I hate going to the ER (which I'm sure you have read above lol )and until I'm insured, that's about the only alternative.
687079 tn?1230952212 Hi all!! Wish me luck, I started toperol XL ( just 12.5 mg) for tachycardia, svt, heart palps. It seems to be helping. Woke up last night and took my pulse... only 75, which I have not seen for over 2 years. Usually 95-110 resting. It almost felt a wierd scarey to be slow but I have to readjust my thinking. Also laying down no major heart thumping.. wierd too... but a good wierd. I hope this helps someone else out there.
Avatar n tn The day after the procedure I started with pvc and have had them ever since. I now have to take toprol which doesn't work well and I have hair lose from it. Try taking some motrin for a week and see if it helps.
