Converting avinza to ms contin

Common Questions and Answers about Converting avinza to ms contin

avinza

Avatar f tn I quite my job in July 08 due to my chronic pain. Went to my internist asked to get of the ms and he told me to just delete to pm dose. Big mistake, thru me in to withdrawal, insomnia, body jerks, sweats, chills. Oh what fun. So after the second day of following his instruction. I stopped cold turkey. Today I am 8 days clean from the ms contin. Doc gave me temazepam 30 mg for pm to help with sleep, no help not even taking two of them.
Avatar f tn Everyone has pretty much covered all the aspects above but I wanted to add that I could not breathe worth a **** when taking the MS Contin (i have asthma and the MS made it much much worse).
Avatar n tn 100mg ms contin er tweice a day given to replace 3-100mcg fentanyl patches and I am still in pain why?
710547 tn?1295446030 I tapered down from very high doses a few years ago, but just 2 months ago, reduced down another significant amount (from 120mg Avinza and 20 oxy to 60 ms contin only). Now I'm tapering to 30mg. Pain is a real enemy, but withdrawal, even tapering, is rough. The 1st drop was too large probably - took 12 days to get past the bad symptoms. But now, I feel like I'm just prolonging this. Yet I need to be able to function! Not sure how this will go!
Avatar n tn I am sorry to hear that you are having a rough time transitioning from OxyContin to MS Contin. You were taking 120 mg of Oxycontin split up into 3 daily doses and now you are on 120 mg of MS Contin split up into 2 daily doses. When I convert your current dose of MS Contin into Oxycontin equivalent, you are taking 60 mg less of Oxycontin through the MS Contin.
Avatar m tn I was given Avinza to try to switch from the duragesic patch to something else.. Its a slow release MORPHINE(great pain killer) better than the patch. by the end of the week I was so sick on my stomach from being off the patch I had to stop taking the avinza and start the patch again..
Avatar m tn The dose of MS Contin is not equivalent to your current dose of Oxycontin...by a long shot! Taking 15 mg of MS Contin 3x a day is equivalent to taking 10 mg of Oxycontin 3x a day. I hate when doctors sneak in a significant dose reduction through a conversion to another opioid! Even factoring in a cross tolerance factor, your dose should have been at least 30 mg 3x a day.
Avatar f tn I have been on 300mg twice a day of ms contin - given to me by a hospice doc that was trying to kill me!!! Literally!!! She was fired and I have since come down on what before this was called a cadd box which housed liquid Dilaudid in huge quantities. I am accustomed to what a detox is and went for it and ran from the hospice situation - though I am dying of a painful rare and slow disease.
Avatar n tn He prescribed me more Hydrocodone 10mg/500mg along with Contin MS 15mg. He says the Contin MS lasts 12 hours, is time-released, so I won't need to take as many Hydrocodone during the day (can probably go down from 4-6/day to 2/day). That's what we're aiming for, at least. Because of a recent 'scrip, my Hydrocodone can not be filled until Sunday, but I will run out a day or two before that, depending how well the Contin MS works.
709686 tn?1277432159 My doctor has changed my pain med from 10mg Lortab to 75mg MS Contin. I notice that I do not get the high with the MS Contin but how much stronger is this versus the Lortab? I am scared to death about addiction and trying to get off this stuff when the time comes. Thanks.
Avatar f tn m reading correctly, you were addicted to a different opiate...your OB gave you MS Contin to help keep you off the other drug, but cut you off when the other drug was found on your urine screen? I am not a Dr or nurse, but I believe withdrawal is most dangerous in the first trimester, but not ideal at any point. You mentioned methadone; I understand your concerns but maybe you should reconsider for the baby's sake.
436237 tn?1204366044 You will meet alot of cool people that have been there and done that to help you relate and beat, or manage this addiction. So as far as MS-Contin, yes I am very familiar with these little pills. MS-contin is a time relased morphine sulfate. By splitting the pill into halves that makes the time release ineffective.. This means that the 15mg you take each dose hits you immedietly.. You were right about taking a very low dose.
Avatar m tn What is MS Contin and what is MS/IR. They are both morphine? Does the Contin mean extended release and the IR mean immediate release. The MS/IR also has the letters IMN REO. I'm trying to find out if the MS/IR can be cut in half for tapering. Thanks to all that reply.
Avatar m tn As indicated this is my second day of withdrawel from ms Contin and am having a terrible time. I am tapering from 6 a day to 1 and tommorow will probably be worse. The thing is I have done this before and you would think I would know better but no here I am again an it is so hard and wish there was a magic wand to use and that would be that.
709686 tn?1277432159 Today is day 3 off of 50mgs of Lortabs a day. My pain doc switched me to the MS Contin and I get STONED after taking one so I'm kinda being forced off these...which is what I really want but I do have chronic pain. I'm all screwed up. Annyway.....Today I developed some pretty serious gas (not trying to be gross) and constant lower abdominal pain and cramps and have had heart palpitations all friggin day. I'm hoping these are detox related.
Avatar n tn I use these for pain, but they do not work as they used to so when I am in pain crying, I take more, and end up running out early. Oh, I am also on MS contin at night (one) extended release, but I still feel it when I am out of percocet. I thought they were both opiates, so why do I get w/d when I am out of percocet? Is it my miond? UGH I hate this, but I also hate being in so much pain I cannot walk.
Avatar f tn I did well with all but lyrica, cymbalta and MS Contin . So I managed to get to 15 mg of MS Contin with 4 norco per day and the pain was tolerable. I also use ice at least eight hours per day on my spine. My prescription was for 120 of the norco which I filled every few months. As I went down on the opana and transitioned to the MS Contin I felt my pain was better. Unfortunately this was short lived so I begain taking the MS Contin at 8:00 am and 8:00 pm with 4 norco spread out evenly.
Avatar f tn Instruct patients against use by individuals other than the patient for whom MS CONTIN was prescribed and to keep MS CONTIN out of the reach of children, as such inappropriate use may result in fatal respiratory depression.
655875 tn?1295695107 s been roughly 2 years and the ulcer symptoms never truly went away thanks to the OxyContin OP formula switch. I had no choice, but to switch to the patch. The MS Contin did cover my pain better then the patch, but I don't have a choice right now. I'm hoping its it too late for my stomach to heal.
Avatar f tn i have been taking ms contin 30mg 1-2 times daily for over a year. prior to that i was taking oral demerol. the meds are for back/pelvic/spinal pain following a car accident. i ran out of my pain meds 10 days ago. was unable to see my doctor until 2 days ago. i experienced bad withdrawal symtoms for about a week (abd pain, diarrhea, sneezing, cold symptoms, chills, restless legs, insomnia, worse back pain, leg pain, agitation, etc.). i went back to my doctor 2 days ago.
687729 tn?1397992727 Dear nickjackson, Embeda and Kadian are the same drug. The only other comparable drug is MS contin. I will tell you (in case you aren't aware) that Kadian does provide copay cards that can be used for 1 year. If you don't have one, contact your doctor and see if he has any. You also might try looking on their website to see if it is available.
Avatar n tn the pain doctor told me if i were to get vicodyn, i would get addicted to them and since i will have long term pain, that ms contin is the way to go. i work full time and am a single parent of a 12 year old. i want to not take them for a day or two or three and see how pain is, but am afraid withdrawals will kick in. i'm just not in a place that i want to go through withdrawals again.
