Avatar f tn m assuming he is a Type 1 diabetic and on insulin? How is his blood sugar the rest of the time? In range? He needs to test first thing in the morning and two hours after each meal. How does he determine his mealtime dose of insulin; does he use an Insulin: Carb ratio? If he is going low at night he might need a snack or he might need to reevaluate his basal dose.
1448460 tn?1284694467 Prednisone does tend to raise your blood sugar and you should do what you can to keep it down as much as possible. You did not mention if you are on insulin or pills or just diet control. Considering you are only taking prednisone for a very short time, you shouldn't have too much to worry about. If your blood sugar is at that level for a longer period of time that may bring about some damage. Exercise more, if possible, definitely drink lots more water and really watch your diet.

Avatar f tn Controlling blood sugar is also very important and you will need to eat lower carb diet, perhaps take medications as well. Advise is to go see your Doctor. Hope all goes well.
Avatar n tn Or your control (whether it is diet and exercise and/or medication) is no longer controlling your blood sugar. You should talk with your doctor about these increased numbers. If you have not been diagnosed with diabetes you should see your doctor and get an A1C done.
752468 tn?1237560359 t even talked to a doctor yet, but we want to get a jump on this. Hopefully we can control it with diet, but will he need medication right away with such high numbers? I worry that he will not comply as he has bad eating habits. This is going to be my quest in life now...to keep him healthy. Any advice??
Avatar f tn As long as you control it with diet you should be fine I have had no issues controlling it just follow what they say and you will be OK. Your key here is to eat lots of green veggies and lots of protein, protein cancels out most carbs so stick to high protein low carbs little to no sugar and you will be good. Also take short walks after eating and drink lots of water.
Avatar n tn If the treatment cannot be successful there is risk of losing your foot. Controlling blood sugar is also critically important. Please do not try to treat this at home alone. Get professional help. Controlling diet and avoiding all sugar will also be helpful, but alone cannot be enough. Please come back and let us know what is happening with you and how you are going.
Avatar n tn Typically people with diabetes while pregnant are treated with diet, and if diet alone cannot control blood sugars then they are given insulin. This is because these drugs can cross the placenta and affect the baby. However, insulin does not cross the placenta. Controlling blood sugar to normal levels during pregnancy is important to having a healthy pregnancy. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn When your Doctor said that you were borderline, did he make any suggestions about controlling your blood sugar with diet and exercise? If not, either see another doctor, or a diabetic educator.
Avatar n tn If you have a diabetic specialist ask them. If not, you should engage one. There are CRNP's that have taken on this specialty. It's important to have a medical relationship with your health care professional either doctor or nurse.
Business woman2 I have heard from several people that low-carb low-sugar diet has great influence on reducing weight and controlling diabetes. What are your thoughts from experience / reading of research studies?
Avatar n tn A little while ago i had a nondiabetic doctor recommend a low carbohydrate diet to help keep my blood sugars low and when i mentioned it to my endocrinologist she said that that type of diet puts extra strain on the kidneys and since diabetics are already prone to kidney problems they should avoit it. i would recommend that at your next doctor appointment you ask to be referred to a dietician to go over the proper diet aspects for a diabetic.
Avatar n tn Bringing your blood pressure down to approximately 120 over 70 mmHg can reduce your risk of stroke significantly. Controlling your blood sugar levels if you have diabetes and lowering your cholesterol levels with diet, exercise and, if necessary, a statin drug, if you have high cholesterol may reduce your stroke risk, as well.

Avatar f tn Your morning glucose levels indicate type 2 diabetes. Try not to eat starchy foods or foods loaded with carbohydrates at night. They turn into sugar after digestion. And no late snacking. The "throughout the day" has no meaning unless they were 2-3 hours after a meal. The sometimes of "192, 263" are high and entering the dangerously high zone. The times to test are mornings before breakfast, before each lunch and dinner meals and 2-3 hours after each meal.
