Avatar f tn They may have a diagnoses of Heart Failure; Congestive heart failure would be more of a flair=up of the disease. Why does this person think she has CHF?
Avatar m tn My name is Mike. I have been in the military for almost 20 years now. This past June I was in for surgery for ventral Hernia and while I was under that when everything started going down. My EF % was 10-15%. The doctor told me that I have CHF with a Left bundle blockage. They told me that a virus was most likely the cause. I never had any symptoms prior to June. I was in the hospital for surgery in January 2013 for Lower Bowel Obstruction issues and came out of it just fine. I am 41.
Avatar f tn The word Congestive Heart Failure is such a negative term, I wish there was an effort to give it name that wasn't so negative. As Ireneo mentioned, if the heart's ability to pump blood drops below a 40% level of efficiency, the term Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is used to describe the heart health. A heart attack can weaken the heart to a condition where CHF is a term used to describe it, but through exercise, drugs and diet one can improve the heart function dramatically.
Avatar f tn My mom died in July of Congestive Heart Failure and Diabetes. I held her as she died. She had so much fluid in her lungs and a blood clot entered her heart. I want to know what did she feel as she was dying and I am very scared that I might develop this illness as I age. My mom was 70 when she died. What are early symptoms that I should be aware of if I develop this illness. Thank you for your time...
Avatar n tn Hi, To me it seems like congestive heart failure only and the usual causes in a young patient are damage to the heart muscle secondary to the viral infection of the myocardium (muscle of the heart). It is really impossible to find out the culprit virus and even if one has found out, there’s isn’t much which can be done as the viral myocarditis is treated by supportive measures as there’s no specific antiviral therapy which can help.
Avatar f tn Can naproxyn really cause congestive heart failure? How so? Also, a friend of mine said that it can also be brought on by eating poorly, meaning eating too much cheese & fried foods, because cheese clogs up your arteries and can lead to heart problems. Is this all correct? I mean how much is too much? Thank you ahead of time.
Avatar n tn My brother who is 69 years old has Type 2 diabetes, have had a stroke, high blood pressure, heart bypass surgery and now he has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. He takes 160 mg. of Lasix per day and Potassium 3 times per day. His legs and feet are swelling, he cannot lie down to sleep because he has problem breathing when he lays down. He has major swelling in both sbove and below his waist.
Avatar f tn My husband has a enlarged heart, and the doctor said he was in the end stages of congestive heart failure. His heart is only pumping 15% now and they put him on dobutamine by IV 24 hours a day. I have a 16 year old son that I need to talk to about his dads condition. I need to know how long a person can live while taking this drug. Thank you!!!
1244565 tn?1268523645 I think the effects of congestive heart failure would be visible on a echocardiogram, but the term Congestive Heart Failure, at least in my case, is used as a name to cover several symptoms. Such as: profound swelling, shortness of breath, etc.
Avatar m tn certainly does not apply to patients with congestive heart failure. In fact, patients with more advanced cases of congestive heart failure are often advised to limit their total daily fluid intake from all sources to 2 quarts (l.9 liters).
Avatar f tn Chances are that your father suffered a cardiac arrest due to some type of arrhythmia or irregular heart beat. This is NOT heart failure which is a chronic form of heart disease where the muscles of the heart are diseased. Arrhythmias can cause a sudden death event and many young athelets have died on the basketballcourts or on the football field due to arrhythmias. your father needs to be evaluated by an EP Specialist who deals with the electrical issues with the heart.
Avatar m tn I am a 52 year old, male, with congestive heart failure. My output is approximatley 70%. I have passed out in the heat many times at work, and I have been treated for fluid - polmunary edama three times. I was diagnosed in 2,008. I am pre-diabetic, need two new knees - due to viral and osteo-arthritis. I have been told that my last C.T. Found three dozen polips - of which six are are about 11mil. In size. Doctor would like to remove all. My qusetion is about my angina.
Avatar f tn Heart failure management depends largely on the cause of heart failure. If congestive heart failure is due to systolic dysfunction due to either coronary artery disease, primary cardiomyopathy or valvular heart disease the treatment mostly consisting of medical therapy and in the case of coronary artery disease or valvular diseaes of intervention or surgery.
Avatar m tn Hi, Many disease processes can impair the heart to cause congestive heart failure. The most common causes of congestive heart failure are: coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, longstanding alcohol abuse, and disorders of the heart valves. Less common causes include viral infections of the stiffening of the heart muscle, thyroid disorders, disorders of the heart rhythm, and many others.
Avatar m tn Hi Katie-- I'm not a doctor, but from what I understand in doing reading (my parents both have had congestive heart failure so I've been concerned about whether it's hereditary), congestive heart failure (CHF) as such is not hereditary. But many of the conditions that can lead to CHF run in families---like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation, etc. CHF can be acute or chronic.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure almost a year ago. I have also had a heart attach and 50% of my lower heart is damaged. I have read the average survival rate after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure is 50% at 5 years and 20% at 8 to 12 years. Is this correct?
Avatar f tn When she finally went to the doctor she was told she had heart failure, kidney failure and liver failure. Heart failure and kidney failure can cause the water weight gain in the legs and ankles. The low blood pressure is another sign of distress. If you can, you should get her to the doctor. We have struggled with this since April. She was given weeks to 6 months back then, and she's still fighting, though we can see deterioration.
Avatar n tn I think the confusion stems from the change of name from congestive heart failure to heart failure. I guess the answer to your question is it depends on the device. Mine Does. I hope this helps and if I am in error someone please let me know.
Avatar n tn My mother has congestive heart failure, pacemaker/defib, stent, only one working valve. They were not able to place a 2nd stent due to blockage. They did not do open heart surgery due to high risk and because her size (very thin). Recently, she was hospitalized for low b.p. , dehydration, and kidney function, low urine output, UTI. They replaced fluids and removed a lot of the b.p. lowering meds, including isosorbide, due to the concern of the low b.p.
