Common Questions and Answers about Congestive heart failure young people

686059 tn?1293837427 My mom died in July of Congestive Heart Failure and Diabetes. I held her as she died. She had so much fluid in her lungs and a blood clot entered her heart. I want to know what did she feel as she was dying and I am very scared that I might develop this illness as I age. My mom was 70 when she died. What are early symptoms that I should be aware of if I develop this illness. Thank you for your time...
Avatar n tn These are both very serious conditions and the combination of the two can lead to a very grave status. In young people a heart and lung transplant is sometimes used but this is not generally an option for older people. Issues that need to be addressed with his doctors are things that can be done to improve his quality of life and his wishes concerning life-support equipment (e.g ventilator) should he come to that point.
661200 tn?1225486613 14th, 2013 Millie passed on due to complications from Congestive Heart Failure and Kidney Failure. They both were diagnosed with Enlarged Hearts at the age of 5 years. Both did great for years taking Enalapril daily. Buffett, the male, continues to do fine with just this medication. Unfortunately, our beautiful, loving Millie started having complications starting in October 2013. She had a persistent cough for years before. She started struggling to breathe during the night.
Avatar n tn Last week I found out that I have congestive heart failure. I had been suffering from laryngitis for over a week, with very violent coughing fits. I woke one day and noticed both of my legs were swollen from the feet to up past the knees with pitting edema. So off to the doctor I went again... A chest x-ray revealed an enlarged heart and fluid in my lungs (blood pressure normal).
670955 tn?1226601500 Hi, I would like to hear from those who have dogs with congestive heart failure. My 12 year old was just diagnosed with it the other day. I would like to know what to expect and what to be on the look out for. Currently he is on 50mg. Lasix, which I understand is a very low starting dose and he weighs 121 lbs. I'm not seeing much improvement. Still coughing/gagging and fatigued. I see no increase in urine output so I'm worried that it's not getting the fluid off his lungs.
Avatar f tn My husband has a enlarged heart, and the doctor said he was in the end stages of congestive heart failure. His heart is only pumping 15% now and they put him on dobutamine by IV 24 hours a day. I have a 16 year old son that I need to talk to about his dads condition. I need to know how long a person can live while taking this drug. Thank you!!!
Avatar m tn Im the same im 36 years old had a heart attack which has left me with severe heart failure but has now gone to mild but im finding it all very hard and it's affecting me mentally.
Avatar m tn The danger of excessive bleeding with anti-platelet mediction is a very serious consideration. If the internal bleeding is not treated, you are correct there will be consequences that override the heart issue.. According to insurance policies and AAC an EF<30% is heart failure range. There are statistics that have estimated about 26% of heart disorder population have an EF in heart failure range and continue their daily activities, and do not know they have a heart problem.
Avatar n tn My Dalmatian was diagnosed 3 weeks ago with congestive heart failure and after treatment and drugs, he is out of the congestive heart failure stage but, of course, still has the enlarged heart. He takes about 3 different hear medications and is tolerating them well. You need a second opinion.
Avatar m tn I have heard/read there are approximately 26% of the heart population eel well and don't know they have a heart problem even though their EF is in the failure range (below 30%). And read there are people who have raised their EF to normal and do not feel well!
Avatar f tn \the result of 8 weeks life support, 3 months intensive care a year ago is, congestive heart failure of the right, initially, and now also the left heart, also irregular heart, also double wire pacemaker fitted due to abcess removal on the heart involving naturaL PACEMAKER,1/2 function to each kidney, poor lung function due to double pneumonia, some fluid retention to lower lung, long term, neither increases nor decreases, grand mal epilepsy, due to stroke whilst on life support, replaceement aortic
Avatar n tn My dog has congestive heart failure. I believe he is the final stage. How do I know if he is in pain and if it is time to end his life humanely?
Avatar m tn I am not a doctor. There has been 11 people in our family that have had Congestive Heart Failure. Symptoms of right side heart failure is swelling in legs and abdomen. Left side heart failure is water in the lungs. All their heart problems showed up on a EKG and echocardiogram. They were not able to complete a stress test. Lightheadedness is common and feeling of your heart beat is common. You probably have a strong heart beat.
Avatar n tn Dear Doctor, My friend who is suffering from congestive heart failure with tricuspid valve leak and baffle leak. Actually her case history is born blue with a transposition of great arteries was operated on 1986 by senning procedure at the age of 11 months. Now she is 15-year-old, suffering from CHF,tricuspid and baffle leak. Tricuspid valve and baffle leak can be cured by valve replacement, can you please tell whether this could be rectified.
Avatar n tn I developed post partum cardiomyopathy (enlarged floppy heart muscle) with congestive heart failure and then a pulmonary embolism. This with my third child 2 yrs ago on Monday 5th NOv. Okay, its important that you monitor your weight, after you wake up, after peeing, gen better without clothing or the same amt of clothing every day, so you can be sure its the weight changing that you notice, not the amt of clothing you wear. You must report any weight gain of between 3-5 lbs or more.
Avatar n tn It doesn't mean the heart has failed. Another term for heart failure is congestive heart failure, or CHF. Heart failure gradually gets worse over time. Some early warning signs may include: Weight gain. If your heart starts to fail and fluid starts to build up in your tissue, causing edema, you might see a sudden weight gain. Frequent urination. Heart failure may cause decreased blood flow to the kidneys, which causes you to retain more fluid.
2095142 tn?1333236800 This situation is exactly the same as my own and what I went through with my own dog last November. Final stage kidney failure is a cruel illness and it must be heart wrenching to watch this happen to your best friend. I know how difficult it is trying to decide whether euthanasia is the right thing, but in your case, it really is the right thing - it is the last truly caring thing you can do for Tracy.
Avatar f tn Hi, we are in a similar situation with our Bearded Collie, Shana. She has Congestive Heart Failure and is now in Kidney failure. She is 16 and has had 4 litters in her life but like Gypsie, she is a fighter. However, we were up all last night with her as she had diarrhoea and was very distressed all night. She is now sleeping soundly.
Avatar f tn Do you get to where when you bend over you can't breathe. If so it could be CHF congestive heart failure where the sac around your heart fills up with fluid. Have your heart doctor check you for that. It also could. Be stress and anxiety you can mention that all this happens to your regular doctor and ask him if ut could be anxiety and if he says its possible ask him for something to help you with it. If that medication works then you found your answer.
1189223 tn?1264556789 A-Fib, EF, artery, left, ICD, 100%, years, Heart, sleep, stress Hi, I am a 52 year old male with sleep apnea, congestive heart failure (EF28%), an implanted ICD, severe coronary artery disease to the heart, had bypass surgery in 2000, 9 stents since then and recently started having TIA's with memory loss, slurred speech, confusion and was told I now had a 100% blockage in my left carotid artery and was told surgery was not an option. Am on Coumadin 10-mg per day, Digoxin .
Avatar n tn This led to a diagnosis of congestive heart failure. I had a 20% heart infarction rate and was a candidate for a heart transplant. They put me on the transplant list. At age 61 I did not think there was much hope in me getting a heart. They would give a heart to a younger person. I felt absolutely terrible. I was very lethargic and was not able to do anything. I was coughing, wheezing, sneezing, and I would cough up mucous constantly.
Avatar f tn He was able to wait at home, with a pager, but his congestive heart failure was getting worse by the day. Insurance didn’t cover some costs so we did months of fund raising. A beef and beer event, cake sales, selling chances, and charitable organizations in the area got involved. This was a healthy diversion to something otherwise completely out of our control. Heart transplants were uncommon in 1988.
Avatar n tn They suspected CHF right away and did some preliminary tests to confirm their beliefs. They were right, I had CHF (congestive heart failure). They performed many tests, and the one that showed the most was the echocardiogram, real time pictures of the heart working. If all of the tests you have had in the past were inconclusive, I think I would request this one, it tells a doctor a lot and a lot about the heart and how it is doing.
Avatar f tn It wasn't from the attack, it must have been brewing, but the attack exasterbated it (is that the correct word)...well, treating kidney failure and severe congestive heart is a double edge sword. One would hurt the other. I would have had to force feed my dog and that was the only thing that she really enjoyed in the past year because she couldn't do much because of her heart.
675347 tn?1365464245 I keep wondering if there is something else I couldve/ shouldve done. He had end stage renal disease and congestive heart failure. I was just reading about all the treatments you all went through - ours happened v v fast. We ran a battery of tests last month because he drank water at all hours of the day and night, urinated a lot, and was incontinent. Nothing was noted about his kidneys. They said this breed often had issues with pancreas.
61536 tn?1340701763 My left atrium is either enlarged or borderline enlarged due to the measurable, for sure Diastolic Dysfunction. DHF leads to Congestive Heart Failure due to high pulmonary venous pressure which leads to high pulmonary artery pressure. My local cardiologist fired me while I was in the hospital here in Alabama (chest pains and many other symptoms) about 1.5 months ago, because I asked for an echocardiogram. We had it out because of his sarcastic remarks. I just found a new cardiologist.
Avatar m tn normal (slight problem in right ventricle but non-problematic) therefore he was told he didn't have Heart Failure (even though he has all the symptoms), also tested for 'hole in the heart': normal. CT Scan: normal (no major pulmonary embolism which was initially thought), slight problem with lungs diagnosed as COPD (obstructive pulmonary disease) supported by air flow test. Blood tests: normal (except for oxigen, which overtime became stable).
Avatar f tn These people most likely require several pillows at night to sleep, allowing them to continue breathing without going into congestive heart failure. This doesn't occur ever so often, this is a way of life. I'd wonder if you work out often and are pulling a muscle, or possibly have pinched a nerve. Auto accidents can cause this also. I think you may have indicated you have had an auto accident. See a Chiropractor! They will work wonders on you! I promise!
