Common Questions and Answers about Concussion symptoms your dog

concussion

Avatar f tn The same thing just happened to my dog. Same symptoms. How did you make out with your dog?
779793 tn?1235856226 Sorry, but I think your vet is being a bit blase' about this injury asking you to wait a week while the dog gets worse. Were I in your position, I'd be getting a second opinion - fast. Please keep us posted on your yorkie's progress - you're all in my prayers!
Avatar f tn Everything Margot said and more that I can't print here. Get the dog to a vet and encourage your friend to dump the boyf. If there's known routine abuse going on, I'd maybe also call animal welfare to step in.
550814 tn?1214943492 Nobody on the internet can diagnose your dog. His condition certainly seems serious enough to warrant a visit to the vet, and the sooner the better!
779793 tn?1235856226 My GF's toy Yorkie was spooked and fell off my dining room table this morning where he landed on flat his right side. She brought him to me as he was unresponsive, not breathing and had a very slow/or no heart rate. I was able to revive him and we rushed him to the vet where he started to gain some coherence, but still lacked coordination and was unable to sit or stand. The DVM gave him a subQ anti-inflammatory and 1/2 of a Valium for his muscle rigidity.
Avatar n tn Circling can indicate a stroke, and since there was a head injury, it could mean there is bleeding somewhere in the brain or a bloodclot as a result of the injury that caused the concussion. Chances are, in a very young dog like this, as long as the problem is caught and managed there will be no serious permanent damage, but the circling at this stage of the game is definitely cause for concern. Please let us know what the vet says.
Avatar f tn I diagnosed concussion because I had pretty much all the symptoms of one. And I didn't go to the hospital for two reasons 1) I didn't feel like trusting my driving skills after that 2) I did a typical test for "serious" head trama (watching what your eyes do, how long you can focus on things ext) so I knew it wasn't "serious" so I didn't think to go. I know thats bad but what can I say.
Avatar n tn Nutrical is a good source of calories, and you can also ask your veterinarian about some of the prescription dog foods designed for ill animals, such as Hill's A/D, which is soft enough that it can be syringe fed to him, and is a good source of protein and moisture; your veterinarian can tell you how much A/D to feed him in a 24 hr period.
Avatar n tn I think you may have a concussion. Symptoms are varied and can be delayed from hours to days after the injury. 1. headache. 2. loss of consciousness. 3. dizziness 4. Ringing in ears. 5. nausea or vomiting. 6. slurred speech. 7. fatigue You have some of these symptoms. I would go back and see your doctor. Have someone else drive you in.
505094 tn?1240317431 Charley, I am so sorry to hear about your dog...my heart goes out to you....I am a dog lover too! My thoughts are with you.;o( I hope #4 will be the one to give you your answers..and agree that at least for now #2 can still help you with meds..and so glad you could make the trip to see your daughter!
Avatar f tn re supposed to take it easy after a concussion and orgasm raises your BP and all. Most of my symptoms of the concussion have gone away, aside from double vision. Thoughts?
Avatar n tn Your symptoms could be due to migraine or PCS ( post concussion syndrome ) because of the concussion that you had years ago. Please go for an MRI brain to know the exact cause and consult a neurologist for treatment as a delay could be dangerous. There are chances of getting a stroke. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards !
Avatar m tn A concussion can last for weeks after the head injury. The symptoms too vary from person to person. Headache, confusion, memory loss, dizziness, nausea vomiting, slurred speech and fatigue are common. Delayed symptoms include depression, irritability, sleep disturbances, seizures, loss of smell etc. A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere.
Avatar m tn I have suffered from 2 concussions. My first one happened tubing behind a boat in summer 2011. Fell off the tube and immediately felt dizzy, almost as if it took me a few seconds to regain myself. I had never felt that feeling before, but assumed the jolt my head took when it hit the water that I had suffered a concussion. I didn't begin to feel that "pressure headache" until a couple of hours later that afternoon.
Avatar n tn I too want to wish your dog a full recovery. I also hope the person who did this to your pet is caught and punished. Keep us posted if you can. All the best........
Avatar m tn Obviously as you mentioned there are other factors such as anxiety, depression, lack of deep sleep, not eating enough which can amplify the physical symptoms. Also the fact that I already had post concussion symptoms regardless. Dont think I had a goose egg just some slight bruising and I felt like a bit of pain or a sore spot in the area I was hit for a few days.
Avatar m tn I also hit the back of my head and had a severe concussion and brain contusion (bruising of brain) 1 year 10 months ago and still suffering with 24/7 dizziness, stuffy head, ringing in ears etc., When it comes to Post concussion syndrome it is really a collections of many many symptoms and confusing. You are only 3 weeks away so it may be too early to call it and most people recover within few weeks or months. I am the unlucky one.
7535508 tn?1391720305 You would have noticed straight away when the incident happened whether your daughter suffered with concussion, because she would not have been her normal self, would have been confused, cold and clammy and her eyes would not have been able to focus on you. If she is complaining of any head pain, feeling dizzy or feeling unwell, then you should get her seen by the doctor. The bruising will fade in time.
1983058 tn?1527442254 We got him there within 2 hours and it was determined that he suffered a concussion. When it first happened, he did lose Consciousness for approximately one minute or so. On the way to to hospital he did regain Consciousness and was moving all of his extremities. He never had a seizure and did respond to his name. He then began to vomit and had respirations that were rapid and a bit labored. The doctor determined by x-ray that he did aspirate.
809429 tn?1238388382 m sure, over the phone. No-one knows your dog better than you do. Go without sleep tonight, and take your dog back. He might need a CT scan. Don't worry about the ER vet thinking you are fussing. Better to do that than to be sorry if something goes wrong.
Avatar m tn I hit my head on the ice about 12 hours ago. ER said concussion. I have not had any of the symptoms the ER said I should return for but where the lump was there is now a soft spot. Should I return?
Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar n tn m a little nervous about this and just wanted to know the general odds or percentages when you have a concussion and your smell/taste and hearing come back. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Last month I fell on ice while walking my dog. I hit my head really hard (fell backwards), had a concussion, and have compression fractures on my spine. I am being treated by doctors, but I have really bad flashing light in my eyes. I was told that I needed to rest and this would subside, but it only seems to be getting worse. Do I need to call the doctor again or will this stop?
Avatar n tn However, sometimes symptoms persist for months or, rarely, years. Your friend should consult a neurologist and undergo a MRI to see the effects of head injury. There could be inflammation of the brain tissue causing headache and nausea.Common symptoms of mild brain injury may include headache and the sensation of spinning or light-headedness. Some people also may have mild confusion, nausea, and, more commonly in children, vomiting. Refer http://www.merck.com/mmhe/sec06/ch087/ch087a.
