concussion

Avatar f tn However, yes, MRI should be done to rule out brain injury as the cause. Stress due to concussion and brain injury can also be the cause. Also get your blood pressure checked. Take care!
Avatar m tn The incident that caused the concussion can often be accompanied by structural damage to brain tissue, as well as the rupture of blood vessels, which can cause a bleed. This is what Drnee refers to as underlying brain injury. The bleed may be slow and continue for several days, or even weeks. A concussion is a specific syndrome secondary to a blow to the head. Impacts to the skull that produce a concussion can certainly cause death, if not quickly addressed in an appropriate medical facility.
12128836 tn?1423574148 is absurd and incorrect A concussion is due to a blow on the head. The brain moves and actually displaces. In all concussions there is swelling. The swelling in turn impinges on blood flow, which in turn causes necrosis (death) of brain cells. In general there is a window-of-opportunity to administer drugs to reduce the swelling. There can be damage without the presence of nausea or of unconsciousness. This damage may not show on an MRI. The other possibility is a brain bleed from the blow.
Avatar m tn It impacts the liver, kidneys, every body part .... and yes, the brain of course. Concussion is when some action causes the brain itself to move and impact the inside of the skull. It can be a passive injury that causes no more than a headache ... or it can be very much worse by affecting motor skills and pupil dialation, even speech patterns. Concussion may appear like intoxication but any good doctor would be able to know the difference by just doing a blood test!
Avatar f tn SDH is diagnosed when there is a collection of blood inside the skull, but also inside the covering of the brain called the Dura. The collection is therefore between the dura and the outer most brain tissue itself. The source of the bleed can be from damage to the brain itself (a focal lesion or tear of tissues), damage to a vein or damage to delicate tissue inside the dura. Between 10% and 30% of patients admitted with severe TBI suffer from SDH.
Avatar n tn t make a habit of it. In a concussion, there is always brain swelling. There a window of opportunity to reduce the swelling. Action is ideally taken within the first four hours. After 24 hours, there isn't much to do after several days. All the damage than can be done has been done. The swelling has the potential to compress blood vessels, causing ischemia and death of brain cells. The bad-news bears. In the future, if you ever bang your head hard, head for an emergency room.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. After head injury or impact such kind of symptoms like loss of smell or taste and other symptoms may be common due to extent of damaged part of brain and may remain symptomatic or progress in future. Although any sure success cure can not be assured in such cases, but symptomatic relief or it may decrease with period of time, physiotherapy, avoiding any triggering factors and life style modification help you in certain extent.
Avatar n tn I took him to the emergency room the next day and they did a CT scan, but did not find any brain injuries or blood in his brain. The doctor who saw him was in a extreme rush and didn't really talked to us. When my husband was discharged from the ER they gave him a paper explaining about head concussion. So we assumed he had a head concussion. He did o.k. for two days and then started being confused and disoriented again.
Avatar m tn It is tough to diagnose dizziness. It can be malfunctioning of ear, neck, brain, blood pressure and lots of other things. Probably your cousin must have been to many specialists. Ask him to try vestibular therapy, cranio sacral therapy, neurofeedback and there are plenty of other therapies. I am also doing some controlled exercise on bike and key thing is not to push too much. If you are in Toronto you can consult Dr.Leddy at University of Buffalo concussion clinic.
1287446 tn?1313947638 t suffer from any symptoms so which means other parts of brain took over. Brain is so unpredictable and some times people with mild concussion suffer from disabling symptoms for long time and some time people with severe brain injury get back to normal life within months. So you are going to be fine and nothing to worry about.
Avatar n tn Hi, probably these are concussion symptoms. “The brain is surrounded by cerebrospinal fluid, one of the functions of which is to protect it from light trauma, but more severe impacts or the forces associated with rapid acceleration and deceleration may not be absorbed by this cushion.
Avatar f tn a small tear in the blood vessels that travel up the neck to the brain. This can occur spontaneously in people with certain conditions that affect the blood vessels, after neck trauma, or after chiropractic manipulation of the neck. The pain is often but not always associated with some sort of neurologic deficit as a dissection can often lead to a stroke. A dissection is diagnosed with a specific type of MRI test (MRA with fat saturation) or an CT angiogram.
Avatar f tn Your complaints warrant an MRI and an MRA. An MRA is used to look at blood vessels and passageways. I am a little bit concerned that you may have had a minor stroke last year and may have impending symptoms of another one. When you are nineteen these events are unlikely, but I am painting a "worse-case" scenario. There is nothing really critical about this, but sometime in the next few days would do fine. Of course a consult with a neurologist is in order.
Avatar n tn She then attempted to vomit unsuccesfully many times before fading in and out of concsiousness. Is that concussion or is it more serious??
Avatar f tn Though Asperger’s by it self will not prolong concussion, the diagnosis of concussion in Asperger’s is often overlooked and some other cause or the disease itself attributed to as a cause of symptoms post injury. Hence it is important to consult a neuro-psychiatrist. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
Avatar f tn Ok so about 7-8 months ago I suffered a concussion and was off work for quite a time I am getting back to it now. My question is can suffering a concussion cause depression and suicidal thoughts as well as self harm? Basically when I was a teenager I was suicidal and a cutter and haven't done anything like that since, until I got the concussion and a few months into the treatment etc I started cutting again and feeling suicidal.
Avatar m tn It is common for sleep disturbances to occur after traumatic brain injury such as from a concussion. There are no randomized studies on sleep disturbance in brain injury patients. The sleep disturbance may last a few days to a few weeks/months. If it does persist, I would advise getting a sleep study evaluation to ensure he has not developed sleep apnea.
Avatar f tn I fell and hit the back of my head on a concrete hard floor 4 days ago. It sent a wave of pain through my skull like my brain moved and I saw stars. It hurt.! I'm not seeing stars anymore but I am dizzy and sometimes nauseous. My ears start ringing at random times. Sometimes not too bad but sometimes it really bothers me. My head feels really heavy most of time too... Should I see a doctor or is it just a minor concussion that I shouldn't worry about.???
Avatar n tn It almost sounds like you may have gotten a concussion besides injuring your shoulder. Because of the headaches, difficultly with memory, trouble concentrating, nausea, feeling "fuzzy," sleep changes, visual changes, I suggest you get checked out by a doctor, preferably a neurologist if you can...otherwise your PCP. These symptoms are consistent with a concussion and the fact that you've had some in the past makes this cumulative (adds insult to injury).
