concerta vs generic

As far as I know, the only two are intuniv and concerta. They use different formulations. No clue which is better. I think it probably depends on the individual. Both do take a while to take effect (compared to a stimulant). If you google them, you will be able to see lots of anecdotal posts on how it worked for that poster or their children. Of course, if you have taken your generic version of adderall after the concerta for a couple of days. That should be what shows up. But, I would think that as long as you have the prescription for the adderall, you should be ok.

Hello, I also have adult ADD and I have tried both Concerta and Vyvanse. My doctor wanted me to try Concerta for a few weeks and I didn't like it at all. It didn't agree with me. It made it feel depressed and NOT motivated to do everyday things. I was on a 36 mg dose and when I went back to my doctor I told him I hated it. He mentioned that there is a new medication called Vyvanse and asked if I would like to try it. With nothing to lose, I said yes. I do like Vyvanse.

Sandman, this is what I've bee told. Generic companies have to make a product that fits into a specific area of the brand name medication. Normally, the difference between generic and brand name and generic compared to another generic is nominal and goes completely unnoticed. Someone super sensitive may feel a different though. My son is now on medication for depression (been such a difficult year that I'd love to chat with you about) and I had this concern.

After spending $186.00 for the generic form of concerta I'm about ready to cry... no, I have already cried. My insurance changed plans to a high deductible and now I must meet a $2500.00 in regards to my son's medication. I have already checked with medicad/medicare, the martketplace and there is nothing my insurance company nor employeer can do. Can anyone give me any information in how I can lower my cost or perhaps is there a cheaper alternative? Thank You!

I have terrible ADHD. Took Concerta for 10 years. For the last two years I have been without it. I am to begin studying for my RN in the fall. I am 20, with no insurance and without the Concerta I just know I will not make it through my classes. What are some alternatives???

Hey, I was prescribed generic 10mg Adderall 1x per day by my psych, but when I tried it I felt slightly dizzy with ear stuffiness (the type when you fly on airplanes) accompanied by sharp, inner ear pain (in both ears). This lasted about 1.5 months. Is there anyway to reduce this while taking adderall, and what could it be caused by?

diagnosed a few days ago with ADD(no hyperactivity) amongst other things and am taking concerta...36 mg 1 to 2 times a day...seems to be a life saver so far but am uninsured, just getting back on my feet after a nasty divorce and losing everything but my children (Thank God). Know the different options for treatment including psychological counseling vs medications. I opted for Concerta & it has been working well for her. I give it to her 7 days a week because she is ADHD, know the difference between ADD & ADHD. ADD is only Attention Deficit vs ADHD includes Hyperactivity. But every child is different & the levels are different, some are more hyperactive then others as well as their attention span.

The generic doesn't seem to work as well for a lot of people. My endo also feels the same way, that brand name is good and generic stay away from.

I don't know about growing pains vs. "problematic" pains either. Has her dosage of Concerta been increased? I ask because often ADHD meds are gradually increased, and sometimes kids can only tolerate a lower dose. If her medication had been increased, that might account for some of the more twitching coming on suddenly. The twitching would concern me more than the pains.... I too had a lot of "growing pains," when I was a teen. God Bless!

We now switched him to concerta (lasts longer than focalin)...and added Prozac. Teacher really likes the results at school. However...evenings are hectic. He becomes very silly and immature. Often displaying autistic like behaviors--flapping hands, grunting, weird noises etc. Demeanor is relatively happy and giggly....Before just on ADHD meds...the withdrawal he was very angry and aggressive. He takes clonodine to sleep. But is very amped up at night. Could this be a side effect?

For most people, they seem to be able to use either interchangeably with little or no difference in the effectiveness. For other people, they report a BIG difference in the effectiveness of the generic and have to stick with a brand name, sometimes even a specific brand name. Some meds have more of a reputation for this than others.

I was on it for about six years (first three on brand name - there was no generic yet) then on generic and it stopped working (unrelated situation). However, as you mentioned above, the only thing consistent between generics is the active ingredients, every generic has a different mix of inactive and binding agents. If you can afford it, brand name is great, but if not, there are many different companies that make generic sertraline now, so one bad generic doesn't mean all are bad.

People who took the brand name and then switched to generic may have a little problem.
