1575110 tn?1334664635 Hello, I also have adult ADD and I have tried both Concerta and Vyvanse. My doctor wanted me to try Concerta for a few weeks and I didn't like it at all. It didn't agree with me. It made it feel depressed and NOT motivated to do everyday things. I was on a 36 mg dose and when I went back to my doctor I told him I hated it. He mentioned that there is a new medication called Vyvanse and asked if I would like to try it. With nothing to lose, I said yes. I do like Vyvanse.
Avatar f tn I am thinking that it is more the caffeine than the concerta. And at least one person on the site mentioned below stated he had to cut back on his coffee. There are lots of good posts on side effects here - http://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?drug=21121&name=CONCERTA As always, if this remains a problem do ask your doctor. Seizures are typically only a problem if one has a prior or family history of them. But they are nothing to be ignored!
Avatar f tn Do you have high blood pressure? Caffeine can raise blood pressure. Actually, studies show those who have fatty liver benefit from caffeine. Coffee caffeine consumption is associated with a significant reduction in risk of fibrosis among NASH patients. Drinking coffee may help prevent diabetes as caffeine may be the ingredient largely responsible for this effect. Looks like you will be changing doctors.
Avatar n tn This may sound foolish to someone who knows they have to limit themselves on caffeine, but like I said, I never noticed any effects from drinking caffeine in excess. Upon getting 2 1/2 of those cans down my world crashed. I suddenly felt like I was dieing! I was panicking, pacing around my house and outside. I was trying to make myself throw up because it was the only thing I could think of in my mind that might stop my heart from feeling like it was failing and pounding out of my chest.
Avatar m tn Know the different options for treatment including psychological counseling vs medications. I opted for Concerta & it has been working well for her. I give it to her 7 days a week because she is ADHD, know the difference between ADD & ADHD. ADD is only Attention Deficit vs ADHD includes Hyperactivity. But every child is different & the levels are different, some are more hyperactive then others as well as their attention span.
Avatar n tn My son takes Concerta as well as his sister They are both on a dose of risperdal as well. Trevor is ADHD Combined type He's 5 y/o and takes 27 mgs of Concerta Jessey his sister is 7 and takes a lower dose she is just ADD. I was having the same issues as you with these two it seemed when 7 p.m. came every night like clock work my kids turned in to monsters like the warewolf does when the sun goes down in the movies .
Avatar f tn I don't know about growing pains vs. "problematic" pains either. Has her dosage of Concerta been increased? I ask because often ADHD meds are gradually increased, and sometimes kids can only tolerate a lower dose. If her medication had been increased, that might account for some of the more twitching coming on suddenly. The twitching would concern me more than the pains.... I too had a lot of "growing pains," when I was a teen. God Bless!
Avatar n tn Ok...yes when i woke up the other morning my HR was 137 bpm; sometimes when i'm sitting, and i think i'm pretty relaxed, it'll go to 97-113 bpm. And lately, i've been feeling this one hard pound in my chest then it just palpitates. I don't get it. I've been trying to lay off the caffeine lately, and i have been on my same meds (Concerta 72 mg) for a year now, but i've never really noticed my HR as much as lately.
Avatar m tn Hi everybody, I'll try to keep this as concise as possible. I'm a 23 year old male in college diagnosed with ADHD (which I've successfully been on welbutrin and concerta for about 3 years now). I admit first hand, I've been a stim junkie in the past, energy drinks in particular. I stopped with those once I found a lifting supplement known as NOXPLODE (which is a blend of an energy, NO, and creatine in short).
1549092 tn?1297046311 I think you will find the information useful as it compares Vyvanse vs Adderall XR. Do make sure you also click on their ADHD link at the top of the page once you have finished reading. The site is - http://healthlifeandstuff.com/2009/07/vyvanse-vs-adderall-simple-vs-complex. You also might want to check out another very good site for adult ADD. Its has a different approach to the matter as it is all done with videos and was recently featured in a special on PBS.
Avatar n tn i read in a medical journal that a truly ADHD child would respond differently from normal people when intaking caffeine-that it calms them. Although we dont normally drink caffeine or carbonated drinks, i am wondering if this could be something to help in calming this child and enable him be able to concentrate in school. ? if not do you have any other thoughts for me other then medication.
Avatar f tn Concerta does not cause the enlarged heart, but definitely increases the heart rate and causes other chest pains, so cardiovascular monitoring is a MUST with all the ADHD-drug taking children. My son has a 5-6 mm hole in his heart and we get Eco every year, just because he is taking Concerta. So far, we were lucky and did not have to suspend taking it. If they say it - keep him off of it. I am sorry to say that.
Avatar n tn I just started taking Concerta (36 mg) and I immediately developed shingles. My doctor swears it's a coincidence, but after seeing your post I can't help but wonder. I had chicken pox as a child, but I've never had shingles before now. What happened in your case? I went to the doctor today and got neurontin and valtrex, but the doctor told me to keep taking the Concerta. I don't know what to do.
1756970 tn?1314376733 i went to the gym and did weights for 2 hours and now still aggitated and calm at the same time. i dont know if i should stop the concerta or what. i cant get to my dr till friday and he is new so its gong to be an evaluation appt. but omg!! i feel like i have had about 4 pots of coffee in 2 hours all day!! i cant focus or function and i feel like i am invisible too. help me please. i just cant slow down!!
Avatar f tn I checked his eyes this morning before he took his Concerta pill and his eyes were still dialated, but not as badly as after he takes the Concerta. Should I take him to an eye doctor or should I discuss this with his psychiatist (who prescribes his Concerta) first?
Avatar f tn My son is 8 on concerta and he also wets his pants I am begining to wonder I have read the literature and can't find any connection. But I do wonder.

I don't know what to do because the Concerta is helping my ADD, but I also believe it at least played a part in my shingles outbreak.
Avatar f tn My son's teacher said that she has been observing him this year and he cannot focus and does not get his school work done. She said that it is not that he doesn't try, but it is a force that is bigger than he is. Now the doctors want to put him on Concerta. I really don't want to medicate him. One main reason is because of the long term side effects and they have to try different meds & doses until something works. I really do not want him to go through that.
Avatar f tn I can see being on V and perhaps adderall in the late after noon. Or concerta and ritalin in the late afternoon. Since the Concerta/ritalin are the same type of meds. Same thing for Vyvannse and Adderall. Point being, why was the V not working for you? What symptoms did you have. I would think that the two could have been over dosing you. Did you ever try just V alone?
982251 tn?1248781387 My daughter has been on concerta for 3 yrs now and she has facial tics. We took her off now and its been about 4 days, they seem to have gone away except once in away in awhile I see one but mostly 3\4 or more are gone. So I would like to know if they were becuse of the concerta and not touretts.
