Concerta ocd

Common Questions and Answers about Concerta ocd

ritalin

Avatar f tn He is very high functioning but of course with this he has OCD type behaviors, anxiety etc. At age 5 he was diagnosed with pretty sever ADHD. We started on Strattera and after two weeks he violently attacked me...We then went to Concerta then to Focalin then back to Concerta....not ever obtaining great control of ADHD. He additionally was put on Prozac about a year ago for anxiety as he was chewing the skin off his fingers until they would bleed and chew huge blisters on his lips.
Avatar f tn My son is soon to be 17 years old. He has been on 54mg of Concerta for 4 years plus. Before that he was on Ritalin, both for ADD. This medication treatment was recommended some time ago to help him academically and I must say, it has not really helped all these years. He continues to struggle in school and has trouble with depression so I am writing to request some clarity. Recently, his doctor has recommended a higher dose of Concerta.
1110718 tn?1258435594 She is happy, nice, caring, and just great and then can just turn in a second to a very angry upset and self harming child sometimes. She also was put on Concerta 36mg and her rages got even worse to where she once almost jumped out of the car when driving down the freeway. Very scary. She also has pulled clumps of her own hair out and busted her tooth out of her mouth and injured her body with bruises and cuts in her rages.
414608 tn?1221754268 t know if it is the meds or he has OCD. When I talked to the therapist, she said he could also have OCD or bipolar. I am thinking how can my son have 4 different disorders or could the Adderall be causing some of this like the mood swings and OCD behavior. She couldn't tell me the answer. We switched to Vyvanse 30mg for a week and it didn't work for him so now he is starting the Concerta 18mg with 0.25 Respidol twice a day for the mood swings.
Avatar f tn I can see being on V and perhaps adderall in the late after noon. Or concerta and ritalin in the late afternoon. Since the Concerta/ritalin are the same type of meds. Same thing for Vyvannse and Adderall. Point being, why was the V not working for you? What symptoms did you have. I would think that the two could have been over dosing you. Did you ever try just V alone?
1238606 tn?1304201621 He has been expelled from school as of Friday. He is on Risperdal, Clondine, and Concerta. He has made comments about wanting to take a lot of medicine cause he just wants to sleep for a long time and not deal with his sisters. He depends on his medicine just to make it through the day. He will say on weekend if you don't give me my meds I am gonna go crazy. I have caught him trying to get to his meds, that are in a top cabinet in my kitchen. His peds doctor doesn't take me serious.
Avatar n tn Ever since he is on this medication he is showing increased signs of anxiety regarding food safety and some OCD traits (increased hand washing). His anxieties about his food possibly being poisoned are really affecting our home life and cause him true anguish. Is it possible that the medication is causing this dramatic increase in anxiety? What other meds could be used to help the ADHD aspect? We already tried Concerta which made him more aggressive?
Avatar m tn It appears to be some kind of habit. It has been thought by his pediatrician that he has OCD. However, we have not taken him to a specialist yet on the OCD behavior. After we asked our son about his finger licking, he said that he couldn't stop. He has suffered from two seizures in the past two years that were 15 months apart and hasn't suffered from one since April 2012. He has had a CT Scan and a EEG. The EEG showed extra activity on one side of his brain.
16613731 tn?1449676204 Assuming I read your description correctly, you are still taking Concerta, right? If that's the case then be advised that Concerta, like all stimulants, has the side effect of hair loss(http://www.drugs.com/sfx/concerta-side-effects.html). It's likely that most doctors won't mention this, because it isn't a very prevalent side effect.
Avatar n tn For the past 3 months i have had anxiety issues. I had one panic attack that scared me half to death because i thought i was dying. I spend the next two days thinking i was going to die of a heart attack. After two days of being paranoid i went to the emergency room and told the doctor what had happened. I was fine and sent home later that day. The constant worry for those two days had sent me into a state of depersonalization/derealization.
Avatar m tn ADHD, mild-moderate schizophrenia spectrum disorder (high functioning juvenile paranoid schizophrenic possible), tourette syndrome ( coprolalia), anxiety disorder, OCD, highly possibly aspergers and depression. I have not been on an ADHD med in years, because they gave me insomnia. I have been on both stimulate (concerta, adderall) and non-stimulant (strattarra) drugs. I definitely feel that concerta worked very well for me.
Avatar n tn We tried the usual medicines. Ritalin, Strattera, Adderall, Concerta, etc...nothing seemed to work but when all was said and done, my son developed vocal tics. These haven't gone away for the last couple of years. He is now on Tenex, and Clonidine, for both the ADHD and the tics. We've noticed that when he's getting sick, the tics are at it full force. And within the last 3 months he's had to obsessively go to the bathroom.
Avatar f tn m 19 years old and just got diagnosed, as one would say, with ADD/ADHD rather recently. I was given a prescription for Concerta 36mg to be taken daily. This is the third week taking it and I have been noticing some odd side effects. On days when I take it in the morning and don't eat I feel nauseous and generally off, which I was warned about prior so it doesn't worry me as much. However, I have also noticed quite a difference in my mood.
Avatar n tn A lot of my OCD stemmed from anxiety and racing or jumbled thought. I still have OCD but I have learned to distinguish them as not true or necessary. Do you believe if you keep doing these things you will stay germ free or is it your mind telling you these things are necessary to prevent germs. There is always hope. You are looking for a balance in your thoughts. Learning something different could help. Don't close the door on all options.
Avatar m tn Hi there...sorry to butt in but for Wellbutrin it usually takes 4 to 6 weeks before you really see benefits. But as Sandman said, it usually isn't prescribed for ADD but rather OCD and anxiety. I take it for OCD. Is your doctor trying to treat your racing thoughts thinking that perhaps you have OCD as well as ADD?
Avatar f tn He has tried them all and had tremendous success on Adderall, until he developed tics and had to go on Concerta which made him very depressed. He decided in high school that he no longer wanted to be on meds and went at it without. Needless to say, by April of his Senior year, he was behind and did not catch up, nor did he graduate. At 19, he is now trying to live on his own, is in a depressed state, cannot hold a job and has issues with his attention span, OCD and authority.
Avatar f tn Concerta does not cause the enlarged heart, but definitely increases the heart rate and causes other chest pains, so cardiovascular monitoring is a MUST with all the ADHD-drug taking children. My son has a 5-6 mm hole in his heart and we get Eco every year, just because he is taking Concerta. So far, we were lucky and did not have to suspend taking it. If they say it - keep him off of it. I am sorry to say that.
Avatar n tn I just started taking Concerta (36 mg) and I immediately developed shingles. My doctor swears it's a coincidence, but after seeing your post I can't help but wonder. I had chicken pox as a child, but I've never had shingles before now. What happened in your case? I went to the doctor today and got neurontin and valtrex, but the doctor told me to keep taking the Concerta. I don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn I checked his eyes this morning before he took his Concerta pill and his eyes were still dialated, but not as badly as after he takes the Concerta. Should I take him to an eye doctor or should I discuss this with his psychiatist (who prescribes his Concerta) first?
Avatar f tn My son is 8 on concerta and he also wets his pants I am begining to wonder I have read the literature and can't find any connection. But I do wonder.

982251 tn?1248781387 My daughter has been on concerta for 3 yrs now and she has facial tics. We took her off now and its been about 4 days, they seem to have gone away except once in away in awhile I see one but mostly 3\4 or more are gone. So I would like to know if they were becuse of the concerta and not touretts.
1031310 tn?1259857386 I did not personally find it as helpful as the concerta.... but everyone is different! Your son might find it even more helpful then the concerta, you'll only know if you try it! It's not a stimulant, so... SOME people might think that was a plus... but... uhhh... it's sort of like an anti-depressant, so like with ANY anti-depressant your son MIGHT experience withdrawal effects if he ever wanted to go off of it...
13415927 tn?1430701518 my psychiatrist was very dubious to put me on ADD medication as im an ex crystal meth addict. obvious reasons. ive been clean for 8 years now and have been on concerta for almost a year. but i am bipolar and have very bad anxiety. concerta works very well for my ADD but not for my anxiety, is there a better way to get the best of both worlds?
Avatar f tn I started taking 18 mg of Concerta once daily about 2 weeks ago. Oddly I have noticed two things: 1) I can no longer have my daily/morning coffee without severe nausea (even the pharmacist didn't have it as one of his warnings). 2) Despite the fact that it keeps me awake to the point that daytime napping is not possible I still feel exhausted most of the time which doesn't make much sense to me. Has anyone had anything like either of these things happen while they were taking it?
