1266263 tn?1270153368 Hi, The best fuel for muscles is carbohydrates, either simple sugars such as naturally occurring sugars in fruits and juices or complex carbohydrates the starches in whole grain products, rice, cereal, oatmeal and other plant foods. These carbohydrates provide not only energy but also important vitamins and minerals. You store only carbohydrates not protein or fats in your muscles in the form of sugar called glycogen. During hard exercise, you burn this glycogen for energy.
Avatar f tn I read that carbohydrates are the main source of energy, so it is important to eat some amount of carbohydrates daily so the body is able to function. There are different types of carbohydrates. For example breads, pasta, potatoes and rice and then there are vegetables and fruits. Can I obtain my carbohydrate intake just by eating (vegetables and fruits), or is it important that I also eat (breads, pasta, potatoes and rice in small quantities)?.
Avatar n tn However, the usual advice is to institute or increase vigorous exercise, reduce saturated fats and increase monounsaturated fats (nuts, olive oil, avocados, etc), and replace simple carbohydrates (sugar and white flour) with complex carbohydrates.

Avatar n tn Google Glycemic Index [GI] and understand the difference between good carbs [complex] and bad carbs [simple]. Carbohydrates [simple carbs] that break down quickly during digestion and release sugar rapidly into the bloodstream have a high GI; carbohydrates that break down more slowly, releasing sugar more gradually into the bloodstream, have a low GI. As asok mentioned, watch the carbs. Carbs are wreak havoc to a t2 diabetics glucose level. 2.
Avatar f tn You do not have diabetes but if your 109 was a fasting blood sugar then you have an abnormal fasting glucose and should avoid eating too much refined carbohydrates like white bread, white flour, and rice. It is better to eat less carbohydrates and eat complex, high fiber grains like whole wheat, brown rice. Of course, eating lots of vegetables and exercising will also help too.
Avatar m tn Best way to address this is to avoid refined carbohydrates and sugars, and eat complex slowly digestable carbohydrates combined with fat and protein to help keep blood sugars steady. Eat small regular meals.
Avatar n tn Consume more complex carbohydrates, such as brown rice, brown pasta and whole wheat bread, one to two weeks before you begin your training program. You have to do cardio, a minimum of 30 minutes a day and you don't have to do it all at one time! You can do 10 minutes 3 times a day if you like. Cardio raises your heart rate that increases your metabolism. Go to the following web address and put in your information http://www.webmd.

There is no itching pain or peeling. Do you think adding Niacin in his diet would somehow help. He gets plenty of Trytophan, turkey sandwiches are usually his after dinner snack.

Avatar n tn I am trying to find out why my heart rate doubles after I eat carbohydrates — especially simple carbohydrates, and especially on an empty stomach. My resting heart rate is 52 BPM. About thirty minutes to one hour after eating simple carbs on an empty stomach — sugar, white bread, candy bars, etc. — my heart rate jumps to 100 BPM, and my chest tingles. I am 45, male, overweight. I have daily PVCs and Bradycardia with no symptoms. I have been diagnosed with lone atrial fibrillation.

If I eat any carbohydrate to try and fill up, I take complex digestive enzymes which helps somewhat, but I still get inflammation and pain on right side of my body from head to kidney area. Is it a lymphatic system problem? Fungus? Bacteria? If I have sinus trouble, I have digestive misery.

Avatar n tn Hello Joy, I'm a volunteer and not a physician, so do continue working with the docs on this. A number of folks with diabetes did start out with episodes of hypoglycemia during the years before their diagnosis. Not all of us started out that way, but some do. The ketones in his urine can be an indicator that he's metabolizing fat because his cells can't get (enough) glucose. That can happen during extreme exercise and with soem weight loss.
