5747555 tn?1408727657 So I'm trying to loose weight - and trying to do something lower/better in carbs to stave off Type 2 diabetes. My doctor swears this will work. But -- where do fruits like grapes (nature's original portable snack food) fit? Are they good or bad. And if the goal is to cut carbs, then does that mean no more grapes, apples, etc? Any suggestions.
Avatar n tn Google Glycemic Index [GI] and understand the difference between good carbs [complex] and bad carbs [simple]. Carbohydrates [simple carbs] that break down quickly during digestion and release sugar rapidly into the bloodstream have a high GI; carbohydrates that break down more slowly, releasing sugar more gradually into the bloodstream, have a low GI. As asok mentioned, watch the carbs. Carbs are wreak havoc to a t2 diabetics glucose level. 2.
Avatar m tn What does make a point tho is that complex carbohydrates take longer time to break down in your body to that means the blood glucose remains more stable. Complex carbohydrates are startchy food like patatoes, rice and pastas. Simple carbohydrates are what you should avoid and those are desserts and candies.
1319721 tn?1276040968 The difference between simple and complex carbs is that simple carbs are broken down quickly for energy and if not used will be stored as fat........
Tbd This does not mean that all carbohydrates must be avoided but it is necessary to limit carbohydrate intake and to choose what are called complex carbohydrates in place of simple carbohydrates. The goal for a type 2 diabetic is to maintain their blood glucose within a safe range. Complex carbohydrates are broken down at a slower rate than simple carbohydrates meaning that the glucose is released into the bloodstream at a slower rate allowing more time for the uptake of glucose.
Avatar n tn However, the usual advice is to institute or increase vigorous exercise, reduce saturated fats and increase monounsaturated fats (nuts, olive oil, avocados, etc), and replace simple carbohydrates (sugar and white flour) with complex carbohydrates.
Avatar n tn So in addition to following a low fat/low cholesterol diet(avoid red meat, egg yolks, full-fat dairy, processed baked goods, shrimp, meat sausages, fatty pork etc), try to avoid simple carbs and instead go for more complex carbohydrates in one-serving portions(brown rice, whole wheat bread and pasta, whole grain cereals).
Avatar m tn too much, it overstimulates it, too little is not good either... bread and carbohydrates can spike up our insulin and you will crave for them the more you eat them.... No carbohydrates at all is not good for us, our bodies need all the nutrients but you can cut down the white bread and substitute with complex carbs, some cereal in the morning and you will feel ok, eat five or six small meals a day so that you control the insulin levels and you won't have those strong cravings of it.
620048 tn?1358018235 But if you use vitamin C and/or B complex, take those together with your iron supplement as they will help increase absorbtion of the iron. Nourishing the body is aparently far more complex than we realized in the past. Each nutrient is dependent on the cooperation of others.
4776875 tn?1359048764 Having any dairy products reduce the speed of your metabolism too. So it may take a while for your body to digest all the good stuff and actually get going. Don't eat few big meals a day either, try eat small amounts inbertween to keep the processes going. But to kick start a morning, don't indulge in the sugar or coffee (:O bad for you anyway!! :D) you'll end up with a crash, so if you wanna keep yourself going after brekkie, eat the complex carbohydrates.
1266263 tn?1270153368 Hi, The best fuel for muscles is carbohydrates, either simple sugars such as naturally occurring sugars in fruits and juices or complex carbohydrates the starches in whole grain products, rice, cereal, oatmeal and other plant foods. These carbohydrates provide not only energy but also important vitamins and minerals. You store only carbohydrates not protein or fats in your muscles in the form of sugar called glycogen. During hard exercise, you burn this glycogen for energy.
Avatar f tn Only have complex carbohydrates, not simple carbohydrates. No fruit juice from bottles or cans only fresh squeezed! You have to do cardio, a minimum of 30 minutes a day and you don't have to do it all at one time! You can do 10 minutes 3 times a day if you like. Cardio raises your heart rate that increases your metabolism. Go to the following web address and put in your information http://www.webmd.
Avatar f tn Could I eat food of low glicemic index, and still obtain the amount of carbohydrates required daily???? Does high glicemic index means more carbohydrates??? or there is no direct relationship between both???
451075 tn?1210258648 But you are describing a very severely limited diet that is NOT safe over the long run. It is devoid of nutritious fruits, vegetables, dairy, and complex carbohydrates. In the short run, you probably won't be hurt.
Avatar n tn Consume more complex carbohydrates, such as brown rice, brown pasta and whole wheat bread, one to two weeks before you begin your training program. Complex carbs contain energy in the form of glucose, which will provide your muscles with the necessary fuel before you begin training. Complex carbs contain essential nutrients and minerals that will help your body develop after working out. A slice of wheat bread, or one half cup of white or brown rice, is a serving of complex carbs.
Avatar m tn You should take complex carbohydrates and fibrous food instead. This will help. As far as ESR is concerned, the reason for the elevated levels is some chronic disease process which should be spotted by doing some investigations.
