Comparison of lyrica and gabapentin

Common Questions and Answers about Comparison of lyrica and gabapentin

lyrica

1318483 tn?1318347182 I was on 2700mg gabapentin daily before we gave up and I am up to 200mg Lyrica 2x daily. So you can see the comparison there. I don't know if your new pain in your feet is a side effect. Sounds like a new symptom and as the rules state, over 24 hrs means you need to notify the dr.
1805240 tn?1317228731 Lyrica is sometimes considered a stronger form of gabapentin. Gabapentin is generic for Neurontin and Lyrica is brand name for Pregabalin. There have been several posts online from patients taking Lyrica, saying that the side effects are more severe than with Gabapentin. I have never tried Lyrica so I don't know if that would be the case for me. Everyone is different though.
Avatar f tn I take 300 mg of Gabapentin 3 x a day and it helps my fibro quite a bit..I can't take lyrica, my hands and feet swell, I also take meloxicam 7.5 mg 2 x a day ...
1253197 tn?1331209110 Anyone else with similar experiences and also have any of you been able to stop taking either of these drugs because of improved symptoms Sarah
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi guys, I'm investigating Lyrica, and a switch over maybe, I'm almost at the max of Gabapentin, so am looking into other options. I have heard though that so many people GAIN lots of weight with Lyrica..... have you folks found that to be a problem?? My mother is 79 and was put on Lyrica..( not to sure why), but apparently gained 40 pounds in 7 weeks, and I for soure don't want that. Extra weight is also hard on us with MS........
Avatar f tn As mentioned, Gaba is the generic of Neurotin not Lyrica. So, I went on Lyrica next and I have to say that it has had better effects. It is like Gaba put formulated differently, I still can't take it in the day b/c I get really dizzy and nauseated but I do take it at night. I still wasn't finding it to be helping all that much so my Dr added Amitriptyline as well as sort of an additive.
Avatar n tn If not, then he would likely increase your dose and see if that makes a difference. I have also heard that a drug by the name of Lyrica might help with the nerve pain. I have not used it but I have heard some good things about it. I have nerve pain and the only thing that works for me are opiates which if you can get along without them is good. Like I said, chat with your Doctor and see what he says. Please take care and good luck.
Avatar f tn If given a choice without cost factors pros and cons of Gabapentin versus Lyrica for long standing neuopathy pain in my back, legs and feet from surgery over 10 years ago...Any advise appreciated..
Avatar f tn I feel like 75mg of Lyrica is nowhere near covering the 800mg of Gabapentin I was taking. So now he changed it to 75mg/2x a day of Lyrica and 800mg/2x a day of Gabapentin to be taken together. Everything I've read says not to take them together. Sorry for the long post, it's my first one and I'm in a lot of pain. Just wondering if anyone had any insight on this?
1218873 tn?1300091216 I think I have fewer side effects with pregabalin (Lyrica). Like I said, I couldn't take more than 300 mg of gabapentin at a time, without getting dizzy, no matter how slowly I increased. I take 100 mg of Lyrica (=~ 1200 mg of gabapentin, I think!) + 300 mg of gabapentin at the same time w/o getting dizzy.
1218873 tn?1300091216 m now taking 300 mg of lyrica, plus 900 mg of gabapentin (ended up adding that back in after I got to 300 mg of lyrica and the dr didn't want to go higher, though I have seen the max dosage at between 450 and 600 of pregabalin).
1345254 tn?1325918041 s possible side effects, plus make sure a close family member, (GF or roommate whatever the case may be) is also aware of these things and is watching you for any changes in your personality and moods, because when you are on these type of drugs you may not be aware of or feel changes others can see.
634733 tn?1316625992 Gabapentin and Lyrica are anti-seizure medications (this class of drugs also reduces neuropathic pain) that effect the voltage gating of calcium channels in the nervous system. Just about all of the anti-seizure medications "can" (but not always do) cause weight gain. These drugs decrease certain neurotransmitters and increase neuronal GABA levels.
Avatar f tn His doc as tried all kinds of tablets but none have worked so far. A few days ago she put him on gabapentin and i just wondered if any of you have had it and if so does it help? Any thoughts or ideas will be much appreciated because the pain and lack of sleep is really starting to get him down.
Avatar f tn Neither the flexeril or the gabapentin seem to help with muscle tightness, spasms, or nerve pain. I am seeing my doctor again in two days and I wondered if any one could tell me of medications that have worked for you. I have a high tollerence to medication, most do not make me sleepy at all. I have tried Tizanadine in the past but for some reason that medication gives me bad headaches. Can any one recommend any thing that may work better for me to mention to my doctor?
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone on here has been on lyrica and then come off it. I stopped taking lyrica on Saturday AM. Starting on Sunday I was naseous, had headaches and no appetite. The worst is the pin prick skin sensation. Has anyone had this before if so what helps or makes it go away? I tried Benadryl last night but it did t help. How long does lyrica withdrawal last?
Avatar f tn How are you doing today? Is today Day 1? The best way to track your clean days is to use the recovery tracker. You are asked to put in the date of the last date of substance us...and it will do the rest. I noticed you posted a journal back in March 2012 about not being able to post 1/2 a pill...and that's cause even if it's just 1/2 a pill....it's a day you still put a substance in your body. So...why not try the tracker this time around......
5485096 tn?1375574235 ve had some relief of pain but not a whole lot. I was on 450 mg of Lyrica, and then 1500 mg at night with Gabapentin. I could go higher but I really don't want to. Too many meds as it is.
97654 tn?1214348650 He put me on 300 mg per day of Lyrica and suggested I have another round of Solumedrol in two weeks (he wants there to be 30 days between the first round and the next one). I have read a lot of good and a lot of bad things about Lyrica. I understand it makes you sleepy - which will be good when I take the dose at night because I am having a lot of problems sleeping. However I'm really concerned about the things I have read about weight gain and Lyrica.
Avatar f tn am at present taking 2400 mg per day of gabapentin and find only some relief from pain and other feelings of discomfort. my GP thinks this level of medication is adding to my fatigue and tiredness.I was wondering if anyone knows of alternative drugs that can be used so I can go armed with info when I go to see my consultant....
Avatar f tn I have tried Gabapentin, and I am currently taking Lyrica, which is a relative of Gabapentin. It does help a little, but not enough to enable me to sit down longer.
451366 tn?1211304932 Lyrica is used for pain of fibromyalgia. I have fibro, but I refuse to use it because weight gain is also a big side effect, which is the last thing I need. But some women with fibro and depression say it is a miracle drug.
Avatar f tn Yeah, you should be on at least 600mg of Gabapentin to be equivalent to the 100mg of Lyrica (approximately). Lyrica made me gain weight too. Have you tried Topamax? That one makes you lose weight. It's an anti-seizure med too. Just a thought.
1187071 tn?1279369698 I am sitting here thinking if he ups my meds like he wants to the side effect of weight gain will only get worse. I talked to the people where I get Gabapentin and they said that that side effect don't go away and if the dose is inceased it will only get worse so if the med isn't helping me there are other options. It also makes me tired which I can handle that one but not the weight gain, I have had problems with my back in the past and when I put on weight my back hurts.
1983221 tn?1333506185 Lyrica and Neurontin (Gabapentin) are in the same class of drug and have similar side effects profiles.
Avatar f tn I think that it helped me with the RLS and a little with sleep. I had that and clonidine (BP med) and couldn't have gone cold turkey from tramadol without them! Good luck!
