Common Questions and Answers about Compare aciphex and omeprazole

aciphex

Avatar n tn I'm taking omeprazole for acid reflux's. Is there a similar medicine that does not carry the dizziness label. My acid reflux's is low.
Avatar n tn GI doc said Aciphex, another GI doc said omeprazole and that they all do the same thing. Patient says Dexilant is working best for him. Which should he take?
Avatar f tn Omeprazole is for acid reflux - it shouldn't have any effect on your TSH, and you shouldn't have any side effects from stopping it, other than possibly more acid reflux. I took Aciphex for many years, then switched to omeprazole, when insurance refused to pay for Aciphex...... had to go to the 40 mg caps for some time. Once my thyroid levels began to come in line, I stopped the omeprazole.......
Avatar n tn This is an old post, but here is my input: Nexium is available in 20mg and 40mg dosages. You can take as much as 80mg per day!
Avatar m tn I seem to have more relief from Liquid maalox than from the aciphex. My GP told me to switch to omeprazole and also requisitioned a blood test for Lipase and Amylase to make sure my pancreas was not involved. I don't really have any tenderness in my abdomen, and the doctor said she didn't feel or see any abnormalities. One thing i notice is that a lot of the nausea and sometimes even the indigestion is relieved temporarily by belching--which i didn't think was typical of GERD.
Avatar f tn On a side note I too, have acid reflux and take aciphex. I had it before treatment though. Aciphex is pricey but the manufacturer has a rebate that keeps it down to about $25.00 a month. I sometimes feel like stuff is trying to sit in my throat and some foods are worse than others. I have a big deal with bran cereal now that I didn't have before treatment but I honestly am ok with that. Being free of hep c is awesome.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed omeprazole 20 mg daily, Miralax, Citrucel, Klonopin .5 mg daily (anxiety) and 1/2 a Lortab 5/500 (due to painful abdominal cramps 24/7). The SIBO was recently diagnosed a month ago by HBT (positive fructose intolerance) and small bowel series showed rapid transit. I was put on Xiafaxan 550 mg b.i.d. for a 10 day course. I began to put the weight back on I had lost which was 12 lbs.
Avatar f tn aciphex, otc omeprazole, protonix, prevacid, nexium, prilosec, and zantac (and maybe more that I'm forgetting). They do nothing for me! Some help a little more than others. My doctors keep brushing me aside and I can't eat or breathe! I can't even lay on my side at night, I have to prop up on my back with pillows. Also, my father and aunt have severe Crohn's Disease and ileostomies. My dad just recently died of unknown causes and my aunt is on a daily feeding IV.
Avatar m tn While GERD could cause a few symptoms you describe it's unlikely it's causing the shaky, anxious, sweaty feelings. A reaction to meds can however including an allergic response that mimics panic attacks or heart problems. When you say that Prilosec didn't work out but you are on omeprazole? It's the same medicine--omeprazole is the generic. If Aciphex works and doesn't cause side effects, that might be a solution unless something else is going on.
Avatar f tn Hi. I take Prevacid, which is a little pricey, even with insurance. However, there is another one, Aciphex, which was about 30 dollars cheaper. I am back on the Prevacid as the Aciphex didn't work as well ( for me...I was on Prevacid for years and only switched because of the cost...65 dollars). You may want to ask about that. Also, I was told my pharmacist that otc prilosic works well too.
Avatar n tn My GI explained to me because the H. Pylori bacteria was eradicated by antibiotics and Aciphex my stomach is now in a hyper acidic state and this is causing the water brash. Has anyone heard of this as a reason for water brash. I have read water brash is caused because of "minor" acid reflux. This means a small of acid backs up into the esophagus and the salivary glands as a defensive measure produces excess saliva and in some cases the sinuses produce mucos?
1744042 tn?1311261168 MyThyroid -GERD Story.....I felt like I was choking. having hard time swallowing , and coughing alot when I went to bed. Had ultrasound which revealed small cysts and nodules, PC Dr. sent me to Endo,He is watching cysts and nodules closely. Endo sent me to ENT. ENT told me I had a VERY BAD case of Acid Reflux. Put me on omeprazole(sp) for 2 months . It didn't touch problem.he said I had GERD and EE , then Rx Dexilant for 1 month.
Avatar m tn I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?
Avatar f tn pylori bacteria in the digestive tract. The irony is, if you have ulcers and take Aciphex alone, the Aciphex could make the symptoms worse. Clearly something changed after taking the antibiotics, and now your ally in heartburn control has become your enemy. It might be worth getting back to your physician on this one, since antibiotics can often be a "swinging door", killing some bacteria while making it easier for other bacteria to get through that otherwise wouldn't have.
Avatar m tn http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/barretts/index.ht I am making one such suggestion which you can follow and see. Omeprazole is a good drug to combat this. Along with it you can try over the counter antacids. Avoid heavy meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal. Raise the head end of the bed or raise pillows to 30 degrees. Go to bed at least 2 hours after food.
1387175 tn?1326400997 since the prilosec worked but gave me weird side effects my GI dr put me on Aciphex which works just as great and no weird side effects from it.
1806721 tn?1554333407 s stop production of the acids, when u stop taking the meds, it flips the on switch and many times our system makes too much all at once and we feel the same as we did b4....this is y it is very important to slowly step off these meds and know u may have some GERD until ur body adjusts. Taking antibiotics will also affect ur GERD issues and a probiotic is a good idea, ur Dr should be able to guide u as to which one and what dose is best for u.
Avatar f tn My husband was originally on Aciphex, but placed on Nexium after our insurance stopped covering aciphex and he was miserable. Aciphex has always worked so much better for him. Finally, after a year of misery he's back on aciphex and so much happier. I hope it works as well for you.
Avatar f tn I have had acid reflux before, and so had my father. I am overweight and I know this and I am trying to take control over this now. Recently it seems that I have been (burping even more often) My throat is tight often hurts to talk sometimes and I cough a lot (this has been going on for a while but I did not know what it was and did not ask a doctor about this. I don't know why I haven't. Now I am freaking out and am scared and do not know what to do...
Avatar n tn Really I am thinking that my body is constantly in distress because of my stomach digestive issues. Anyone have advice, or any suggestions? I have been on prevacid, protonix, omeprazole, aciphex and now the nexium. Please help me!
8960138 tn?1407673893 I have had heartburn for over a year now,i think i might have something more severe,i waz taking zantac 150,then i found something that worked more better,Omeprazole Magnesium(compare to preacid) but now that am pregnant i dont kno what to take i stop taking everything, and my heartburn is killing me alive,i cant sleep i cant eat or eat anything..and i heard tums are the only thing a preg woman can take..but those work only for 10mins then i start again =""((...
Avatar m tn yes it is but the price is about 50-100usd per month instead of about 700-1000usd per month since there is so much competition of many brands in india so drug makers can t make same prices and must adapt to local market prices baraclude lost patent recently so another brand from israel may be available worldwide soon of course at much cheaper price
Avatar n tn I was reading some of the other forums answered by the wonderful M.D.'s here, and I came across this statement by Forum MD-dc and I quote: "studies have shown that esophageal acid stimuli can initiate reflexes that result in abnormalities of heart rhythm......" I've long known that for myself, reflux/heartburn (I regularly eat as many as 10 Rolaids daily) and large meals can definetly effect/trigger my PVC's.
Avatar n tn I have actually been on some form of reflux med for a bit longer than 5yrs and started with Prilosec OTC, then prescription Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and briefly Prevacid. These days I tend to take whatever I have in my medicine cabinet (Aciphex or Prevacid) twice a day, max dosage, and occasionally a tagamet to help out. I have a hiatial hernia that is going to be fixed soon so I am hoping to get off the meds and that the side effects will eventually go away...I hope.
190885 tn?1333025891 My GERD seems to come and go at different times so I go on and off of the meds. My most recently GERD symptoms started after my chemo treatments which really caused my GERD to flair up. I am now taking the drug Pantoprazole (a proton pump inhibitor), because the Omeprazole failed to ease the burning pain I was experiencing. Hang in there it is just one pill to take. In time it will become second nature. I hope you are feeling much better now with the drug. Take care.
Avatar f tn I take omeprazole 20mg and have been taking it for over two years, I still get the bloating and stomach pain, and also pain just beneath the bottom of lef rib cage, about 4-5 inches from center, and I know it is caused by bloating, or excess air, because when it happens, it is about two hours or so after dinner or if I drink a lot of water. It seems to help if I eat small servings throughout the day, rather than a large dinner, eating breakfast or a light lunch does not trigger it, only dinner.
Avatar n tn Since then I am taking Acid suppressants such as Nexium and Aciphex as prescribed by my doctor. I also underwent Endoscopy and Biopsy, Abdominal Ultrasound, X-Ray and Blood test . All the tests came normal except they found H-Pilory infection and I took antibiotics and subsequent Stool test for H-Pilory showed negative. I am still having all the above discomforts which is going on for 5 months. I normally eat very healthy and I am following a strict diet since this problem started.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with mild esophagitis caused by GERD. I was put on Aciphex. I was also diagnosed with hiatal hernia during endoscopy. I already knew I had one because an upper GI series 6 years ago detected it. Even so, the doctor who performed the endoscopy, sent me to get another more current upper GI series. The results came back “no obvious hiatal hernia”, even though the endoscopy showed one and the upper GI series from 6 years ago did too.
Avatar n tn So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me. I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?). Any input will be greatly appreciated.
