Common Questions and Answers about Common cold vs influenza

cold

Avatar m tn A few days later I got a cold / mild influenza which included runny nose, headache, muscle aches, stomach aches with diarrhea (stomach upset intermittently multiple times) and the face and body feeling hot and cold but I do not believe I had a fever and if so it would have been low. I am feeling better now but this lasted quite a number of days.
Avatar n tn Tamiflu is completely safe for pregnant mama's. I'm a pharmacy assistant, a dispensary assistant and used to be a medical receptionist and a practice manager. So I'm partially aware of what's safe and whats not (obviously not as advanced as doctors and pharmacists) but it is most definitely safe to take. It's generally used for Influenza though not just a common cold.
Avatar f tn I do not know about protecting but it appears that Riba is used to treat influenza cases. However the opinions are split In Mexico, ribavirin ("ribavirina") has been sold for use against influenza. In a randomized, controlled study of ribavirin aerosol treatment of influenza A(H1N1) virus infection among college students, treated patients had a significantly shorter duration of fever than control patients. There was a trend of more rapid recovery in treated patients.
Avatar n tn Every year from November to April is the specific season of influenza infection. The flu is more contagious than the common cold and has a high mortality rate. Influenza is a viral infection caused by influenza viruses, and influenza patients are the main source of influenza infection. It is mainly transmitted by humans. The virus can directly infect people who come into contact with the air, and can indirectly infect others through contaminated things.
Avatar f tn So i have the common cold, sneezing, runny nose, itching throat, and coughing up mucus.... My dog sleeps with me every night, n i share most of my food with her, i just wonder if she will catch my cold??
Avatar m tn If there is risk of any infection from common use of holy water, chalices for communion, and similar exposures, it is for the common cold or influenza. Indeed, with H1N1 (swine) flu coming in big numbers this fall, if I were a religious person I would fake it, i.e. I would go through the motions without actually touching my hands to the water and certainly not then putting my hands anywhere near my face. Also, I would go to my priest and express my concern.
Avatar n tn Tylenol cold and flu.
Avatar n tn Is it possible that this is an STD, or did I just coincidentally catch a flu/cold? I have an old Z-Pak I never used from being sick last winter that I started taking today ( I know I shouldn't play doctor)... but would It make sense to take it now? If it is an STD, would azithromycin in this dosage regimen help? As a possibly related question, I drank a big gulp of coffee that was too hot on Sunday (yesterday) and burned my esophagus and have had a sore throat since then.
Avatar m tn Day 1- a lot of drainage draining in the back of my throat; Day 2- feeling cold, chills, sore throat, minor aches, and mild fever. Day 3- Same symptoms as Day 2 but now with night sweats and cough, occasional sneezing. Day 4- chills and aches went away, no night sweat, no fever, but dry cough, sore throat, sneezing and chest congestion; Day 5- chills came back, had another night sweat (my neck, chest, and upper back were drenched), minor sore throat, dry cough and congestion.

Avatar n tn I think if you have COPD that is a issue all by itself, the common cold could make this seem like your having more trouble breathing, and with secretions, your airway isnt as clear as usual, but even someone without COPD, feels like crap when they have a cold. This doesnt effect their lung function and it doesnt your either. It might take a COPD pt longer to recover from most common colds, but after you knock it your lungs shouldnt be any worse than they were vefore you got the cold.
Avatar m tn I should be getting a influenza vaccination soon. But I have a few questions. Based on testimonials that I have heard, it seems that people don't contract influenza until they receive the vaccine and they become more susceptible for infection after receiving the vaccination. Case 1: A woman mid-thirties working for a hospital facility is asked to receive a free flu shot. This would be her first. She has never had the flu.
Avatar m tn Is the idea for the Ribavirin to weaken the immune system in order for the Interferon to stay in a persons system longer? If thats the case, could coming-down with the common cold be fatal while on tx? And what kind of danger am I in if I contract a strain of the Flu thats supposed to hit this year, God forbid the H1N1?

Avatar f tn Hi Nik I think this could be a circulation issue or could just be a common cold, do you experience any dizziness at all?
Avatar m tn Can I get a false positive on that test because of the influenza vaccine I received? If so, how common is this phenomenon? Thanks for your answers.
