Common Questions and Answers about Colonoscopy indications

colon

Avatar m tn I had a sigmoid colectomy six months ago, I have Hyperplastic Polposis Syndrome, a large number of polyps, one specifically golf ball size detected by a colonoscopy that had be removed surgically. Fortunately no cancer!I'm a 52 year old male and this was my first major surgery, had my tonsils out as a child. I had 7 inches of my sigmoid colon removed. I was given the impression that in 2-3 months I'd be "as good as new".
Avatar n tn I am a 36 year old female, non smoker, non drinker, had a baby 4 months ago so still carrying some baby weight. I have suffered from pvc's, pac's and mild tachacardia for years. The pvc's can be severe, sometimes thousands per day. Had a echo a year ago, heart is structurally normal with mild regurg. EKg also normal. Holter monitor showed normal sinus rhythm and sinus tachycardia as patient has a high heart rate tenancy. Average heart rate of 100.
Avatar n tn I was really concerned and have had several blood tests and an endoscopy and colonoscopy with no indications of a medical answer. During this time I have been under treatment by a nutritionalist and a Chinese herbalist/Accupuncturist. After about 12 months the pain subsided and now I am generally pain free. However it sometimes comes back in a mild way. I take this as a warning and monitor all my food and drink closely and anything that might be stressing me or creating anxiety.
Avatar f tn next time opt for a colonoscopy. you are sedated and remember little or nothing at all.
987242 tn?1335490770 I had bloody stool with occult blood in stool samples. Severe abdominal pain and lost thirty pounds in two months. During the colonoscopy they found a fold\ lesion and the doctor took a biopsy. It came back negative and the doctor ordered all kinds of test. Upper GI, CT Scan, and ultra sounds are the ones I recall. Anyway nothing ever explained what he found during the colonoscopy. I let it drop as the pain went away and the blood had not killed me at that point.
Avatar f tn I feel no pain, and have no changes in texture of my BM. I looked and did not notice and obvious indications. The blood does turn the water pink once diluted. It is not dark red. I was wondering if I should be concerned. I have a history of Colan cancer in my family, but I am only 28 years old. I do not have insurance or a doctor so would love to avoid any large bills. Any advise.....
Avatar n tn Hi, I understand that a diagnosis for ovarian masses can not be made proir to surgical exam. But I'm very worried and scared. Tommorow I have surgery to remove a large fluid filled mass from my ovary. I'm 47 yrs old, and this is the second mass I've had, the first one being a 5 lb benign ovarian cyst I had removed, along with the ovary and the fallopian tube, 15 yrs ago. This current mass seems to have formed quickly, from what I can tell.
Avatar f tn This showed occult blood in stool and I was referred for urgent colonoscopy. Apparently the colonoscopy was ‘challenging due to significant looping’. No biopsies were taken and diagnosis was diverticulosis - again located on opposite of body to where I get the pain. Cancer inside colon was ruled out and I am now on a (presumably long) waiting list to hear from consultant. I know IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion and that symptoms vary.
Avatar f tn I have had, a HIDA scan, CT scan with contrast, Small bowel follow through, EGD, EUS, colonoscopy, camera capsule test, and MRI. I had my gall bladder removed in October and it has relieved the intensity of the pain some but I still get the pain. All of these test have not shown anything major. I have a small hiatal hernia, a large diverticulum in the upper portion of my small bowel close to my pancreas. The doctors seem to be at a loss as to why I am in so much pain all the time.
Avatar f tn Having my third colonscopy. I had one eight years ago and I cannot remember feeling so nervous. I had a polyp the first time and it was benign. The second colonoscopy was fine. I'm having a difficult time with feeling hungry and waiting to take the prep this afternoon. I've already started having diaherra because of my nerves. Guess I need to unload and find support on here. Looking forward to hearing from anyone.
Avatar n tn I recently underwent my first baseline colonoscopy. I was lightly sedated, but apparently I was a bit resistant to the scope entering any further than the first few inches of my rectum. It was reported that this was sufficient to determine all was well and it was also recommended I come back again in approximately five years. Do I just need to have more sedation next time or could I have a stenosis that caused me to subconsciously be resistive and uncomfortable. Should I be concerned?
212161 tn?1599427282 I do not think that you need to be worried about this at all. So go ahead and schedule your colonoscopy. Good luck.
212161 tn?1599427282 how many have had a colonoscopy and was it bad, the prep i ok with the putting to sleep i not like
568565 tn?1216785185 I am 37 yrs old. No history of colon cancer in the fam... However, recently one of my employee's husband went on a routine check up. They said since he is 47 he should have a colonoscopy... When he was done with that, he is now doing radiation and chemo... He has full blown cancer all over his pelvis... My gp advised with no history in my family, I am good to wait until I am 50 but if I did have a history of it, she'd recommend that I did it when I was 40...
Avatar n tn I have a half brother that died from colon cancer. My family has a history of polyps, thus I had my first colonoscopy at 37 (2 polyps) then at 46 (2 polyps) All benign thankfully. I've had complete annual physicals for the past 5 years and all good thankfully. I am due for a colonoscopy and am stressing about more polyps. Also have anxiety and that's flaring up because of the colonoscopy. Should I be concerned? Thank you!
Avatar f tn Had a colonoscopy August of 2017, it now being June 2018 with diverticula diagnosis and polyps removed. Problem that I’m having every since the procedure , I awake every morning having pains in my lower intestine more to the the left side . Could something have gone wrong ? I went to the ER at VA hospital were the procedure was done . Cat scan was completed and was told all appeared okay. What could be the cause.
Avatar n tn My son is scheduled for his 3rd colonoscopy and he is only 7. If you feel they need a colonoscopy (symptoms) I strongly suggest a second opinion. My son is being monitored for Gardner Syndrom/ FAP. In certain situations a colonoscopy is warranted, because in some situations a diagnosis may be too late in coming. Granted not knowing is alot less stressful in certain situations, but when you weigh the possible outcomes if we were not told, I would rather deal with the stress now.
Avatar n tn I am going to have a colonoscopy this week should I stop taking my hydro and soma before the procedure?
