Avatar m tn What is prep for a colonoscopy when one has a colostomy? My instructions seem to be identical with those before I had emplacement of a colostomy (why clear a colon that hasn't been "used" in years?
Avatar n tn I received a routine colonoscopy three days ago because I turned 50 and my father was diagnosed with colon cancer when he was 52, so wanting to do the right thing for my health I had the colonoscopy. I have been feeling miserable ever since because I have not had a bowel movement. I asked my doctor about it and he said that it is normal and that I should "just wait." This is an unacceptable answer, which I will discuss with him during my follow up next week.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what bowel prep for colonoscopy is safe for use by a patient with liver disease? I was given prescriptions for miralax/ducolax and for Suprep. Thanks!
Avatar n tn The pill is for the prep for the colonoscopy. I actually just learned that my in-laws also used it for their colonoscopies and they said the pills were much better than drinking the liquid prep. So, as long as I can down 20 pills in an hour, this prep hopefully will be a bit easier since the liquid prep makes me vomit.
Avatar n tn require surgical resection given location occluding AO to large 2C flat poyp appearance of SSA 2C bx to inform but not removed given poor bowel preparation with concern I understand about the poor bowel prep. I drank the liquid and I didn’t have a bm for 5 hours. I drank 3/4 of it the night before and didn’t go much during the night. That stuff really is hard to drink. Is there something else? I’ve got to redo this coloscopy :-/. Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn Well, I'm pretty sure that during colonoscopy they pumped air into bowel as it collapses after it is cleared out during bowel prep .What happenens is they have not monitored the pressure level it was to high and have damaged the bowel many papers on this poorly managed colonoscopy so your bowel has been damaged article titled Air induced colon injury during diagnostic colonoscopy by R A Kozarek. Avatar f tn I took a new type of bowel prep called Suprep. Its 2 16oz bottles and then after each bottle u have to drink another 32oz of water within the hour. My question now is how long after u are finished with it will it be out of your system. Its is now 3:30pm the day after i started it and 8 hours after my colonoscopy and im still having basically completely water diarhhea. So how long until this stops?
Avatar m tn There are several reasons for the bowel prep, One of course is to empty the bowel and as much of the large intestine as possible to make more room in the belly for the surgeon to work in, another one is to try to keep as sterile as possible the operating field, in other words so we don't mess up the table , the nicking of the bowel is also considered to prevent peritonitis, aides in preventing constipation after surgery, The main reason behind this is a hold over from the "olden
Avatar f tn I definitely would recommend you make sure the GI doctor knows of your chronic back-up and how little comes out when it does. They may want to be extra careful in formulating your colonoscopy prep so that your bowels are clean enough for a successful one, if that's what they go ahead and do.
387767 tn?1345872027 having the prep for a colonoscopy is not a easy thing and it can be un-comfortable u can limit your diet for a few days before and keep it pretty bland the first one i had i thought it would never stop and its embarrassing the second one i was more prepared i took the diet easy about 3 days before and it was all over in a hour.
Avatar f tn A better option would be CT colonoscopy (virtual colonoscopy). You still have to do the bowel prep, unfortunately. Aside from having to insert a tube into your rectum to inflate your bowel with gas, this test is otherwise noninvasive and does not require sedation. You are basically getting a CT with your bowel distended and clear so the radiologist can look for suspicious polyps. The one downside is that if there is a polyp you will still need a colonoscopy to biopsy it.
1872071 tn?1320287532 I had a colonoscopy and everything went fine. I had no trouble with the sedation. The prep was pretty annoying, but it wasn't too terrible. Your doctor should give you a checkup before the procedure.
Avatar m tn I had colonoscopy and 3 polyps removed 2 days ago. I feel ok just a little achy in lower abdomen and a little dizzy. However today had first BM since the procedure. It was very 'urgent' to go so that was alarming and I hope it was a one-off. Could some of the laxative prep still be in my system? Will my system get back to normal? Anyone else have this after colonoscopy comments appreciated.
Avatar f tn Always feel like I still need to empty my bowels even after doing a bowel movement and never have a normal bowel movement normally soft or the runs. I am booked in to have a colonoscopy, what do you think this could be? I am 40 yr old female and smoker.
Avatar f tn I definitely think you should call up that gastro group and tell them you're supposed to have a colonoscopy on Friday, but you didn't get any instructions on the prep stuff you're supposed to have to clear out your bowel. They should then be able to then handle the situation and get you your stuff. But yes, you're supposed to be given some drink stuff and instructions on water intake, food intake, and such.
Avatar n tn I had a colonoscopy two days ago. Unfortunately, I became dehydrated during the prep for the test and started passing out in the middle of the night before the test. I was dehydrated when they went to put in the IV for the anesthesia. Since the test, I continue to feel light headed and dizzy. I am drinking fluids, and have had my first normal bowel movement today. Could the dizziness and light-headedness still be related to the test somehow?
Avatar m tn 4-6 mos w/no improvement from meds) digestive symptoms - pain/cramp, gas, indigestion, that is coupled with extreme fatigue, weight loss, hair loss, etc. if you are still worried, go to a GI and get a colonoscopy and enjoy your bowel prep. If that's what you decide to do, I would recommend requesting for Prepopik.
552053 tn?1273331741 Is there a way to prep for a colonoscopy without taking any drugs.. IE DIET related ways? For example For 1 day only drink liquids ect? I am HYPERSENSITVE to EVERYTHING and worry about the MoviPrep.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used just 2 bottles mag citrate and 2 5mg. tabs bisacodyl for colonoscopy prep? My directions say 1 bottle at 4pm, then 1 bottle at 8pm with the 2 tabs. This is while on a 1 day liquid diet for an am (before noon) procedure in the surgicenter. I'm allowed to sip water up until 2 hrs. prior to the procedure because it's not in the hospital. How long does it take to start the purge? How long to finish? How much nausea?
621217 tn?1289009087 there is the camera pill that is an alternative to the colonoscopy. You still have to go thru the same prep as a colonoscopy. and lets face it, the prep is by far the worst part of the whole ordeal.
Avatar m tn I have a colonoscopy scheduled for 4/18 because of inconsistent bowel movements. I have been having back pains but it is due to a strain pair of muscles in my upper buttocks. My orthopedic doctor seems to think that the changes in bowel movements (at times regular and at times flat, and at times small) are due to the strain muscle in my upper buttocks and lower back. My gastro wants to do a colonoscopy to make sure it is not an obstruction and to diagnoe IBS.
Avatar f tn no other drugs for my bowel prep tomorrow (laparotomy for my cyst removal is on wed!) like oral liquid solutions ive read about on this forum! i forgot what was written on my slip that i dropped off at the pharmacy last week and only picked it up today, the day before my Poop Day (tomorrow, ergh) and read the insert...it's supposed to help stomach emptying and aids in nausea?!
Avatar n tn Recently read that one risk factor for getting recurrent C.Diff. infection is impaired colonic resistance from bowel evac preparation for colonoscopy test. The good-bad bacteria balance in people prone to C.Diff. infection gets out of wack from the prep, just like it can by taking certain antibiotics. Had C.Diff. and couple of rounds of treatment (Oct. 2008-Jan. 2009), and my Mom had it from Aug. 2008-April 2009), but never heard about this before.
