Avatar m tn im pretty sure i hold the record for most relapses on this site, lol, shouldn't be laughing, but looking back on how i apporached trying to stay clean before and now is completely different and the reason im clean today is what i have done different. 1. i am open about my addiction and no longer in denial 2. i try to help others sharing this same disease 3.
2107676 tn?1388973859 Everyone keeps saying we need aftercare to stay clean. I believe them because they all have a ton of clean time. Is there only NA? Are there other forms of aftercare. I went once to a meeting and my legs shook so bad thru the meeting the who brought me had to take me outside. A major panic attack set in. I saw tons of people I knew and alot of them were just there for support for other people. I think the meetings should be closed to people who are addicted.
Avatar n tn Detox is the primary stage of recovery, aftercare are the activities one does to develop coping skills, non-addict thinking, and emotional/spiritual maturity, for the rest of ones life. The activities, like those mentioned above, can change, but I believe we all need to keep improving to stay sober. I consider the gym my physical aftercare, therapy is my mind's aftercare, and working with a group to become more sustainable is my spiritual aftercare. CBT is my main emotional aftercare.
222369 tn?1274474635 ve had to run this vicious cycle hundreds of times, each time with the best of intentions, before I came to realize that aftercare is more important than the detox itself. Please, to every person detoxing right now. To those in terrible and mental pain. Think about your aftercare RIGHT now. Set up a support system...whether it's a clergy, AA/NA, a private counselor, the fine people and relationships here on this forum, or even group therapy.

Avatar m tn Good job in thinking of aftercare. I used to make plans for aftercare and then I wouldn't follow through with the aftercare and wonder why I would get loaded again??!! There is a saying I like mean what you say, say what you mean, don't say it in meanness. All the best to you.

1017452 tn?1254904998 ve taken your advice and called our local alcohol and drug service re aftercare...they pointed me in the direction of the AA and NA... I then spoke to my hubby about it... today's not a good day for him...his w/d's off methadone are NASTY! He said he didn't seem to think he was going to NEED it! I pass on all your messages to him and read out loads of interesting info to reassure him that he's NOT alone.

Avatar f tn I know that aftercare is a big step in recovery. Can anyone give me any suggestions that has helped them?
Avatar f tn What is aftercare? I have read lots of responses , I posted but it seems as tho most people have strength ... I find it impossible to be strong if my partner isn't ...
514273 tn?1311609635 I've been on this board for years and years. I've never sought aftercare like most people suggest. I've tried to go a to few meetings and they depress me more than it was uplifting. I can go weeks to months without taking these, but once i take one, it becomes a full blown addiction again. I don't know the underlying issues for relapse. Maybe it's because i'm all alone. I work and then i go home to my empty room.
7282682 tn?1397237735 Aftercare are things like therapy, church, 12 step programs, etc. Things that address your addiction. You have to find what works for you but the important thing is to find something.

10623623 tn?1414292089 well if smart works for you then do it there are many types of aftercare personally N/A is my magic bullet the 12 steps work if your heart is in it if not it is time to move to something that does ...
501205 tn?1227345442 *A LITTLE GRAPHIC* I am in an aftercare program 3xs a week and we have to do urinalysis at random times to prove we are clean. After the last session one of the other patients - a guy who just got out of prison and was addicted to heroin -- came up and told me that he hoped I didnt mind but he used a sample of my urine for his test because mine was clean and most of the others were dirty. He can do this because we pee in a cup and leave it in the bathroom one at a time.
3048701 tn?1486130938 It helps you get a plan in place so that you dont relapse and I truly feel if you dont follow aftercare and there are many types of aftercare you will most likely relapse and if you do try one type of aftercare and it doesnt work try another type there are many types you have to find a place where you can get the best aftercare and guard your sobriety like Sara says your life depends on it and thats no joke your life truly does depend on it! make the time its a priority! You are worth it!
222369 tn?1274474635 Many of us are BIG advocates of aftercare. We talk about it daily because we know how important it is to recovery. But, I guess a lot of newer people on here may wonder why it's so important. I'm going to try and explain why it's important for me and all addicts. The main difference between me now and over a year ago when I was in active addiction is that I've finally realized that the pills have nothing to do with my addiction. Addiction is a mental condition.
794977 tn?1237256569 hey guys...a couple of you asked about my aftercare....i think personally good support is better than none...so thanks to you guys pushing...i called and found a meeting for tonight...its only a mile from my house it starts at 8 so thanks again and its my first meeting so i will let you guys know how it goes...thanks again for pushing me and the support...
Avatar f tn I just read all the posts about aftercare and I could not agree more. I have detoxed from vicodin three times...staying off for 6 months the first time and then about 3 months each subsequent time but never got aftercare or ever really ever told anyone. no wonder I always went back. I am on day 8 but I have all ready seen a drug counselor and i have an appt with the addiction md today.
Avatar f tn Okay- so I made my appt. I was against aftercare, and have been detoxed for 43 days, but use a pill at 16 / or 19 days. Been on and off 1 to 2 pills every other day ad needed. Haven't fell back into the 15 a day . However, I constantly think of pills, so I listened to u all and found a counselor, which focuses on addiction/depression. I took a pill yesterday for pain. My question is. Where do I begin? What do I say? So nervous.
Avatar m tn I have struggled with addiction to opiates for 8 years now. I have been on them all from Oxys to Roxy lastly to a 2 year heavy IV heroin addiction. Over the years i have tried to quit hundreds and hundreds of times some resulting in months or sobriety but never longer. I have been to numerous rehab and detox facility's some of the best in the US. But I was always stubborn and thought that after going thru such bad wds i had learned my lesson.
1810386 tn?1405549577 Hi everyone, I've been clean off tramadol come up 3 weeks. The worse part of withdrawing is over. My question that I'm putting out to everyone is what kind of aftercare plans have you used to keep yourself clean? I fully understand the need for aftercare and hence why I'm trying to plan what would be best for me. If you could give me ideas or even what you have or are using that would be a great help..
Avatar f tn Having my third colonscopy. I had one eight years ago and I cannot remember feeling so nervous. I had a polyp the first time and it was benign. The second colonoscopy was fine. I'm having a difficult time with feeling hungry and waiting to take the prep this afternoon. I've already started having diaherra because of my nerves. Guess I need to unload and find support on here. Looking forward to hearing from anyone.
