Common Questions and Answers about Colonic volvulus symptoms

colon

Avatar n tn I have a question about volvulus. I have looked up information about it, and from what I understand, it can happen in the stomach or intestines. I was wondering if anyone knows if volvulus causes the stomach or intestines to *remain* twisted/knotted or do the twists/knots happen only at *certain times* and then return to normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated--I am very curious about this!
Avatar n tn Paraesophageal hiatal hernia is more dangerous because it can result in gastric volvulus. Although the true incidence of gastric volvulus presenting with strangulation is controversial the elective repair of paraesophageal hernia is generally recommended because emergency surgery for acute complications carries a high mortality rate ================================================================ The information provided is for patients’ education only and is not a medical advice.
Avatar f tn It usually is not serious unless the bowel becomes twisted (volvulus). It does NOT lead to cancer or mean that one is pre-disposed to develop cancer. This condition may sometimes make having a colonoscopy difficult and in extreme cases may prevent the practitioner who is performing the colonoscopy from being able to examine the entire colon. If you are having bowel symptoms always tell your physician and let her/him decide the next step.
Avatar f tn Colonic diverticulosis, and there is a bowel loop medial to the cecum which has.a slightly thickened wall. This is probably the terminal ileum and is incompletely distended. Also a few mildly prominent mesenteric lymph nodes. And atelectasis in the right lung. Could.this mean cancer?
Avatar n tn //www.medhelp.org/posts/Undiagnosed-Symptoms/Undiagnosed-Digestive-Issues/show/1739309?personal_page_id=2196886 So had a special doctor visit after hours with some of the staff (gi specialist and colon surgeon) at a hospital I have been having all these tests done at. They talked to me about all the results and all that I have told them and they feel I have 2 issues going on 1.) Colonic inertia = constipation/slow transit 2.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone! I am 27 years old male from Mumbai (India). I have been suffering from digestion related issues since last 3 years. I have consulted with Allopathic, Ayurvedic & Homeopathic doctors before & all of them claimed my issue to be IBS. But recently I consulted with a Gastroenterologist when I got to see blood on stools. He prescribed me few tests & I have got them done.
Avatar f tn properly and held in place, movements of the colon can cause it to become twisted. That volvulus. Volvulus of a redundant section of the colon can cause a large majority of symptoms such as those you're describing.
Avatar n tn Polyp is usually a mushroom like mass growing from the colonic wall and bulging into the colon lumen. Histological examination will probably be made and then it will be said if polyps were cancerous or not. In diverticulosis small pouches bulge out from the colonic wall. They by themselves are not harmful but may cause constipation and may get inflammed (diverticulitis). So, it depends on your symptoms and on what exactly will be the result of investigation of polyps.
Avatar f tn I was just diagnosed with colonic inertia and have been orescribed amitiza. Has anyone ever tried this drug? Symptoms??
Avatar n tn Not sure why you think you have colonic inertia because your doctor had a hard time performing a colonoscopy. Colonic inertia is extremely rare and indicates that the muscles of the colon do not function. It has nothing to do with the shape of the colon. You also do not develop this as a complication of surgery. I have colonic inertia and had my colon removed because of this 6 days ago. I am sitting in my hospital room as we speak.
Avatar n tn I am unsure if i have IBS but closest topic. I had a colonic irrigation last week to help reduce bloating, it wasnt serious bloating i just thought that i might acheive a flatter stomach. However immediately after the colonic irrigation and ever since i have experienced severe bloating, especially after a meal, i look pregnant and it feels hard with such pressure that it is very uncomfortable to move and i feel like i have to take deeper breaths.
Avatar f tn Hi, Colonic inertia is a condition in which the nerves and/or muscles of the colon do not work normally. As a result, the contents of the colon are not propelled through the colon normally. The cause of colonic inertia is unclear. In some cases, the muscles or nerves of the colon are diseased. Colonic inertia also may be the result of the chronic use of stimulant laxatives .Please consult a neurologist for the review of the EMG results and get a nerve conduction study done .
Avatar n tn Paraesophageal hernia may cause gastric volvulus in which the stomach gets twisted which is a surgical emergency. ================================================================ The information provided is for patients’ education only and is not a medical advice. Avatar n tn t wait until tomorrow, if she has a problem like bloat (gastric torsion / volvulus), tomorrow morning will be too late. She needs to be seen NOW! Please let us know what the vet says.
Avatar n tn There is no clear cut association between hysterectomy and colonic inertia. Some of the causes of colonic inertia include inadequate water intake, inadequate fiber, lack of physical activity, increased stress, hypothyroidism, eating large amounts of dairy products, irritable bowel syndrome, neurological diseases and depression. Avoiding dairy products, warm liquids, fruits and vegetables and drnking plenty of water helps.

Avatar n tn i also suffer from chronic constipation. Actually, diagnosed with colonic inertia a couple of weeks ago. They also did upper scope and gastric emptying study and found that I have a lazy/slow digesting stomach. This is the cause for the bloating. Whether or not I eat. I also look like i am pregnant. My husband calls me a chia pet because it will just start growing at times. Doc put me on domperidone, experimental drug for the stomach. Supposed to "jump start" digestion.
Avatar n tn About a month ago i experienced extreme confussion, headaches, generally disorientation and nausea. To the point where i can barely read or function. I went to the doctor and he assigned me a blood test to test my ammoneia count. When i got the results it was over 200. After that it went down but just recently i've been experiencing the exact same symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have been told that regular colonic hydration is good for cleaning out the diverticula in a person with diverticulosis. How accurate is that? I have been wanting to go to a CCT, but was worried about it. Has anyone out there tried it? What was it like, and did it work?
5153051 tn?1364441441 I am a 28 year old female who has never been pregnant, but who has had a long battle with constipation. After having some real problems with constipation in early February, I have been diagnosed with pelvic organ prolapse including a moderately large rectocele and enterocele seen during defecography. The enterocele actually causes the colon/rectum to collapse, obstructing complete defecation.
Avatar n tn Hello first I apologize if my English is not good I just moved in USA. I have had problems with constipation since I can remember my self.
