If colon cleansing was beneficial, why wouldn’t our doctors order them?

I think it depends on the type of enema. Using enemas frequently for constipation can cause your rectum to "forget" how to have a bowel movement naturally. Using enemas for "colon cleansing", I believe is not good, because your colon doesn't need any cleansing, it does this itself.

This is going to be late for you, but you should never take liver cleansers while taking medication. What you're describing is a combination colon/liver cleanse. Milk thistle and yellowdock, for example, are liver cleansers, and could theoretically wash some of the medication out of our system, as the body sees virtually all medication as toxic.

Colon cleanse is not an enema. It's laxatives you take or drink very simular to what you took before your colonoscopy. They cleaned your colon out before they put the snake camera up your colon. LOL I don't think theres a lot of medical benefit to cleaning the colon unless you have constipation problems. Too much info right?

Doctor wil probably give you written instructions about how to prepare (1-2 days of special colon cleansing diet..). Before colonoscopy you will probably get an injection of a sedative into your arm vein that will make you drowsy. You will be lying on the examining table, doctor will insert colonoscope (about 1 cm thick flexible viewing tube with a camera and a light on the end) through your anus and proceed it to the end of the small intestine.

We have an hereditary colon cancer in our family, and my children from puberty, had to have them yearly, and they had no issues with it except for the prep. Different doctors use different things for cleansing the colon for the procedure. This ends up causing you to go to the bathroom many times the night prior to your procedure, but it's just to make sure your colon is clean so they can get a good view of it.

just a question, I was at GNC today and saw a product for colon or gastro cleansing. Has anyone used these, does it work and is it healty?

Do women get enema in the hospital before labor or is it suggested to do it at home before heading to the hospital?

You were probably not doing it long enough, for a colonoscopy all you have to do is take something that will flush you out one or two days before the examination. This does not get rid of candida, parasites, and all the rest that does not belong in your intestines. It takes time to get rid of all those.

None of them has helped the symptoms except maybe the colon that stuck out seems to do that less now. I tried doing enemas, mild colon cleansing herbs, prune juice, psyllium husk powder with lots of water, and aloe vera juice. Any more suggestions?

Sent me for an adbominal sonogram and is requiring a colonoscopy before he will schedule a liver biospy! Why in the world would a colonoscopy be a requirement for a liver biopsy. Is that the "normal" procedure? I understand the sonogram, that makes sense. The waiting part of all of this is difficult and he wants me to wait longer for a biospy because of a colonoscopy? Anyone else have to do that? Any doctors out there that can tell me if that is a reasonable requirement.

Update: The colon cleansing was too good (phosphosoda). It removed too much bacteria. So I was prescribed "Align" which is a probiotic. Each capsule has 1 Billion bacteria.!! The Doc gave me a 2 week sample supply. The pain is gone and the distention is starting to subside. This in the past 10 days. I really hope this helps someone else.

I think I understood the ascending colon removes water before waste travels on so - now what happens? Has my metabolism changed? I lost a few pounds (from 92 to 87) will I gain that back? That's only 5 pounds I know but it's an important 5 pounds to me - I didn't need to lose it. Five weeks later I have not gained it back - Will I in the future?

Hi. I had a sigmoid colon resection last January. I just had my follow up colonoscopy and everything looked good...Thank God. However, my gi prescribed Bentyl (sp) as he says I have a hypertrophic (?) colon, which he explained is due to all of the diverticular episodes I had, causing my colon muscle to become enlarged. The reason he have me Bentyl is that he thinks that my colon is therefore spasming and causing me to still be experiencing some pain.

What is prep for a colonoscopy when one has a colostomy? My instructions seem to be identical with those before I had emplacement of a colostomy (why clear a colon that hasn't been "used" in years?

Hi, I had a emergency right hemi-colectomy after my colon was punctured during a colonoscopy. I was in surgery for 3 hours. Before my surgery, my asthma was under control and I could run for 25-30 minutes. Now, 2 months later, breathing is awful. My chest feels tight. I am not wheezing and do not feel I need my inhaler but I can not run for more than 2 minutes without being short of breath.If I do use the inhaler, it does not seem to change anything.

Has anyone tried the ACIA / COLON cleansing pills, drink whatever.... they say the fat just comes right off?!?! Comeon now... Does that really work, im trying to get opinons before i try it!!!

if they are doing a scope on your large intestine than yes they look at all 3 sections of your colon.

i had a colonoscopy the other day. the dr went around the first 'bend', but couldn't push thru any further. he said that he didn't want to push any further because he didn't want to 'tear' anything. he was being very vague about why it was blocked. i am not having any pain and my BMs are normal. i thought there was a scope on the end of these things so you can see what you are looking at. why couldn't he tell me what the blockage was?

I have a half brother that died from colon cancer. My family has a history of polyps, thus I had my first colonoscopy at 37 (2 polyps) then at 46 (2 polyps) All benign thankfully. I've had complete annual physicals for the past 5 years and all good thankfully. I am due for a colonoscopy and am stressing about more polyps. Also have anxiety and that's flaring up because of the colonoscopy. Should I be concerned? Thank you!

t take over night to get myself in this position, all though it sometimes feels like it happened over night. just want to feel normal what ever that is. wondering about colon cleansing. i have some colon cleansing formula. wondering if i should wait to take them or what. i just feel like invasion of the body snatchers. i want my body back. i let those damn pills rob my body of sooooooooooo much. feeling a bit like a failure. im sure that will pass.

Hi, on my last colonoscopy, my gastroenterologist said I should have a repeat colonoscopy after 5 years because oI have a tortuous colon. I suppose that means he could not get a good look in that section of the colon. Meanwhile, my primary care doctor says that is NOT a good reason to have a repeat so soon because the procedure itself is risky. What to do? Please help.
