Avatar n tn I believe the general consensus is no enemas at all- in home or at hospital.
Avatar m tn I think it depends on the type of enema. Using enemas frequently for constipation can cause your rectum to "forget" how to have a bowel movement naturally. Using enemas for "colon cleansing", I believe is not good, because your colon doesn't need any cleansing, it does this itself.
Avatar n tn They are the only thing I have found to stop a detox reaction. The coffee goes from the colon straight to the liver via the hepatic portal vein and the caffeine causes the gall bladder and liver to dump bile. Then the liver is free to clean up the blood and the detox reaction lifts. This type of prolonged diet can help eliminate steatosis (very low-fat) and really deep cleanse the tissues. I hope that helps.
Avatar m tn In fact, steer clear of real tea (black, green or white) and coffee and any herbs that are known to be diuretics, because these will draw water away from the colon. You need water going into the colon if you're constipated. Especially when you have used your fiber the way you're supposed to. If you can tolerate a mild herbal tea that is NOT diuretic, that's fine, too. Plain hot water is actually good enough, though, over all and is just water, which we need anyway.
Avatar n tn i've herard enemas are good for weight loss and stomatch bloating, is this correct and where can i buy them please?

425312 tn?1279966179 If it was bad weather then I went to the gym and rode the bike or something. It gets you out of the house and gets your body and brain working better. Methadone is supposed to be really tough to come off of but you're doing it PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP!!!
Avatar f tn 3 times per week for at least 1 year) such as Dulcolax may result in a condition called cathartic colon. Signs and symptoms of cathartic colon include bloating, a feeling of fullness, abdominal pain, and incomplete fecal evacuation. Chronic use of stimulant laxatives can lead to other serious medical conditions such as fluid and electrolyte imbalance, steatorrhea, protein-losing gastroenteropathy, osteomalacia, and vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
Avatar n tn None of them has helped the symptoms except maybe the colon that stuck out seems to do that less now. I tried doing enemas, mild colon cleansing herbs, prune juice, psyllium husk powder with lots of water, and aloe vera juice. Any more suggestions?
Avatar m tn I would recommend seeing a gastroenterologist and getting some testing done before doing anything like cleanses. Cleansing and colonics can be dangerous and it is best to be seen by a doctor before undergoing any of these alternative treatments.
Avatar n tn The vet told me that he has severe constipation and his intestine is enlarged. They told me that they would have to do several enemas to loosen the stool up, and then possibly surgery. Unfortunately I can not afford the vet bill and I am not sure what I can do to help my poor cat. The surgery would be to take out his colon. Are there any home remedies I can do to help out. Are there any enemas that I can give my cat myself like baby enemas or something?
Avatar f tn I have been told that detoxing by doing a colon cleanse, full body cleanse and coffee enemas help remove toxins that block weight loss. I am going to try that along with healthier eating. The company BioImmune at BioImmune.com has a great detox that is easy and gentle and the only detox that crosses the blood/brain barrier.
Avatar n tn No scientific evidence supports the alleged benefits of colon cleansing. The bowel itself is not dirty and barring drugs or disease, cleans itself naturally without need for assistance. Some types of colon cleansing present potential hazards also. I would suggest a gastroenterologist’s consultation and getting evaluated for different possibilities.Various other causes that need to be ruled out are over-use of stimulant laxatives (e.g.
Avatar f tn I would make an appointment with a good naturopath and they will lead you in the right direction. Colon cleansing is great, but it needs to be done correctly and most MD's just don't understand the procedure, etc.
787203 tn?1239720933 This is something that you need medical help for right away. I would not do any other enemas or any kind of colon cleansing until you see a doctor. They might be doing more harm than good. At 5'9" and 105 lbs you cannot afford to lose any more weight. Everyone has different bowel habits and what is normal for one is not normal for the other. If you are not eating very much then you cannot expect to have a bowel movement everyday.
1534975 tn?1302372399 I am miserably bloated and full of gas and my doctor keeps saying im packed aswell as i am loosing weight , low energy and lower stomach pains across middle stomach aswell as feeling sluggish and nauseated , all my doctor says is use enemas and drink gallons of go lytely ....
Avatar n tn I too suffer from chronic constipation and colonic inertia. That is when the muscles do not work. There are several tests to determine if it is a muscle issue. I do disagree with the doctor above, fiber is not the answer to all constipation. My doctor told me that fiber can just make things worse in people that have muscle issues. It just bulks up even more and then you look pregnant. The key to my finding out what was wrong was finding the right gastroenterologist.
1762931 tn?1313335816 She needs an X-ray and maybe even a clearing of the colon and bowel, and then some long-term dietary approaches, so her bowel will return to its normal compressive function. She is not being defiant, she has a medical problem. A lot of pediatricians don't know much about the topic at all, and she needs to be checked for impacted stool.
Avatar f tn My GI has run thousands of tests on me and has diagnosed me with chronic constipation. He said at this point there are no more medications for me. I saw a colon surgeon and he said colon removal surgery was an option. My GI says we should just do the daily enemas for now but I am in constant discomfort with back pain and fatigue, and the enemas are no longer offering relief. What type of doctor do I need now, after my GI and colon surgeon. Are there motility specialists?
Avatar n tn I am a 32 year old mother of one. I have had a regular bowel history my entire life until I had OB laparoscopic surgery in Feb 2008. The OBGYN said that I had a great deal of scar tissue and adhesions that had to be lysed because he was worried that the omentum could later affect my colon. I have episodic and frequent severe abdominal spasms and cramping and per my general surgeon's advice have been taking 4-5 enemas at home about every other day.
Avatar f tn Ice been constipated for years and just discovered and started doing water and coffee enemas about 1 1/2 yrs ago. I had a colonoscopy done around the same time, Enemas are the only relief I've gotten.
Avatar n tn Tissue or mucous in stool: I have had gastrointestinal problems for a while; no 'specialists' have been able to help me. Lately I have tried mixing vinegar with warm water and doing small 8 oz enemas, frequently; I have released tons of opaque tissue. It feels good when I release it but I can't find anyone who can tell me what it is. I am going to assume it is lymphatic tissue that has attached to colon lining.
Avatar f tn Rest your colon usually just means don't eat things that make your colon have to work harder. What you should eat varies from doctor to doctor. It doesn't mean that you stop using your colon completely.
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy in April of this year, and while performing the surgery they realized the endometrosis had grown into my colon and had to do a colon resection to remove the affected part. Since then, I have not had one normal bowel usage. My surgeon said it would talk about a year for it to heal properly. I take miralax, prune juice and 3 stool softners a day and sometime still can't go, but the urge to go is always there. I am at my wits end. I just want some relief.
