Avatar f tn I know everyone is different but is there a prognosis for this type of cancer and stage that has undergone these tx's? I just want to know what to expect and can't find any sites that clearly answer this. Any information that you have would be appreciated. And are there alternative tx's?
Avatar f tn Hi there, My husband, age 57 and in otherwise great health, was diagnosed and had surgery for colon cancer. The diagnosis was stage IV colon cancer, as the mucinous carcinoid tumor had spread to his retroperitoneum. The prognosis is not good (ie., the doctors said that without doubt, this is a terminal disease with survival marked at 3-6 months). But I have been reading of survivors - some living beyond the magic five year milestone! What is the exact prognosis of this?
Avatar f tn t know what exact stage of Colorectal cancer she has or if she is dealing with Rectal cancer or Colon cancer or both. I am assuming it is probably localize. If it is indeed localized, she will need surgery and possibly chemo will be ordered; this is regards to Colon cancer. If she is dealing with Rectal cancer, then she will need surgery and possible chemo and radiation. If she is dealing with Colon and Rectal cancer, then she will need all the above.
Avatar n tn My 49 year old SIL(sister in law) has ovarian cancer. She had early stage breast cancer last year, tested + for BRCA 2 and they found the ovarian cancer during a routine PET scan. She's had a full hysterectomy and has just started 2 types of chemo. I know that one is through a port in her chest and the other will be through her stomach and she'll be hospitalized for that one. Her CA-125 was 3748 at the time of surgery.
Avatar m tn My mother had colon cancer 1 year ago, had surgery and chemo. The cancer is back and is stage 4 and in the peritoneal cavity. She is 76 years old. The doctors are not giving us much hope for treatment relative to quality of life. We are seeking a second opinion with our doctors blessing. I have been searching the internet also. I feel that we are quickly loosing her.
Avatar n tn I found an excellent website where you make find a good answer. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Life-Support-Issues-2065/Dying-Liver-Cancer.htm There are so many extenuating factors, it is difficult to put a number on it. I, too, read that prognoses are rarely good. But treatments are improving all the time. My father is terminal with liver cancer that metastasized from the colon. He has "been given" two months, but that really isn't for us to say, is it?
Avatar f tn I'm no expert, just family who have experienced colon cancer. Most of the time, you'll get unusual digestive symptoms and often blood if there's colon cancer. Your husband didn't have blood in his stool samples, so that's good, and he hasn't experienced digestive problems, so that's also good. The whole idea is to catch colon cancer early, better prognosis, and that's why they push these colonoscopies.
Avatar m tn I have mentioned problems with my Dr for years but he just doesn't seem interested in listening. Here are my concerns: Every late winter through until summer I get a dry cough. It irritates or causes hemorrhoids. My core gets hot during the day and I sweat a lot in the underwear area and I begin to stink like my butt is leaking. The smell really bothers me, I spray deodorant down there because it gets so strong.
Avatar n tn s when the cancer starts to move- so it might be in the tissues near the breast (for example my grandma had stage 3 colon cancer and the tumor was on part of her bladder and vaginal cavity); and stage 4 which means that metastasized. This means it traveled from where it originated, in my grandmother's case her colon, to another part of the body. So, again- my grandma had tumors all over her liver, intestines, several lyphnodes in her groin area, and on her bladder.
Avatar f tn My mother-in-law (64 yrs old) has had 4th Stage Colon Cancer for 4 years. She has had 2 separate colon and liver resections and has recently had surgery for a fistula and blockages in the colon resulting in a permanent ileostomy. The cancer has spread to 3 spots on her liver, 1 on her lung and is scattered through her pelvic region.
Avatar f tn Son diagnosed 12/2018 with colorectal cancer. Tumor removed 9/2019 post chemo and radiation. Reconnect 11/2019 and two days later rushed to ICU and surgery for complete lg colon removal due to CDIFF as total toxicity through out body. Onintubated and in ICU for one week. Family notified he may not survive, but he did. In 1/2020 complained of discomfort when sitting. Dr said residual pain.
Avatar n tn He also told us that the mass was mostly confined to one area and that he was able to remove all the cancer including a small part of the colon during surgery; He said that the surgery was a success. He did add that there were small (less than a centimeter) of spots on the lining of the liver that would burn off when my wife went through chemotherapy. To remove them during surgery would have been harmful.
Avatar n tn Is it likely that even though my most recent ct scans were negative (except for the hernia and arthritis) that I could have cancer? Is it possible to have polyps that bleed but are not cancerous? Is it true that colon cancer is slow-growing, and if this is what I have, do I have time to nip it in the bud before it's too late? I'm scared I might have colon cancer. One of my surgeons from '09 once asked me "why do you always think the worst?
Avatar f tn My 72 year-old father was diagnosed with colon cancer about 6 months ago. It is currently 5cm diameter, located in the sigmoid region, protruding into the lumen as well as infiltrating an adjacent section of wall of the small intestine as well. His bowel structures are disorganized due to resection of 18" of small intestine 3 years ago and subsequent herniation through the mid-line incision site. The hernia was never repaired and is literally the size of a basketball.
Avatar f tn My 73 year old mother was diagnosed with lung cancer in Jan 07,she had her right upper lobe succesfully removed with no mets. then in July 07 she was diagnosed with Colon cancer (not from the lung) she underwent another succesfull surgery and preventative chemo for the colon as there was minimal lymph node mets. Yesterday she had an MRI due to lower left back pain. IT showed a mass in the paraspinous muscle. She will be scheduled for a biopsy next week.
Avatar f tn My sister had surgery yesterday. They said it's colon cancer. They removed the tumor and took out 10 inches of her large intestines attached the large to the small intestines. They said it's in her liver just a couple of spots. Her pathology report comes back in Monday. Some assistant told my brother in-law she thought it was stage 4 how can this be with only a couple of spots and the removed the rest and apparently it hasn't spread anywhere else.
Avatar f tn I have had altered bowel habits and on occasion some blood smearing on the toilet tissue. Left sided pain and back pain low down. I have had a colonoscopy that failed and a sigmoidoscopy that failed. A barium enema showed a Sigmoid Stricture and I have a diverticular desease in the descending colon. I have had a CT Tomonography and a CT Colonography and I'am having a Flexi sigmoidoscopy on 2nd Sept, before having a Sigmoidectomy on 6th Sept.
Avatar m tn Seven years ago my father was diagnosed with colon cancer that had spread to his liver. After chemo and radiation, surgery and more chemo she got better. Almost 5 yrs later the cancer returned to his lungs. Two tiny spots. He was treated with oral chemotherapy for a few months. The spots greatly reduced but he grew too weak to continue with chemo. That was 11 months ago.
Avatar n tn My 49 year old SIL has ovarian cancer. Avatar f tn It is possible that these nodules are metastases from his base of the tongue cancer. The decision to give or not to give further cancer treatment/s will depend on a lot of things. Consider the age of the patient, risks and benefits of treatment, possible side effects, and end point in making a decision. For now, your father needs the best supportive care he can get. Take care.
Avatar f tn Hi, The chemotherapy could improve symptoms and may extend survival. In general, the one year survival rate would be increased by about 10% or so. What is a bit crucial is what does less than healthy mean? As cancer advances, it affects daily more and more. How much the cancer is affecting daily living are among the things considered when planning the treatment.
Avatar n tn Hi I am a 46 years old male, I am healthy, I never smoked, I drink moderately. I have recently had a wide local excision and a sentinel nodes biopsy. I had a 2.5mm black spot on my back that was removed. the result was no problem with the skin on the back (2cm per side were taken) and 2 out of the 3 lymphnodes were ok while one had something (not sure how much). Then went for CT SCAN and I had a surgery scheduled to remove some more lymphnodes (chest area).
