Only her doctor can give you an idea of what her life expectancy is. For me, I think it's about quality of life. I don't know if I'd put her through radiation at her age. This is a very personal thing, but I feel very strongly about this. I've known many much younger people who endured all the chemo and radiation for cancer, only to still die from the cancer. Does anyone know the expectancy of liver cancer. I thought generally it was never a good prognosis. Someone told me they have had it for 8 years and they only get a CT scan every 6 months?
My father was just diagnosed with Stage IV non small cell lung cancer. It has spread to the lymph nodes on the right side and to his right adreanal gland. He has yet to start treatments. He's 55 years old and a smoker. His general health other than this cancer is good. What is the life expectancy if he doesn't do treatment vs. having treatment.

The chemotherapy would have immediate and delayed effects. Some of the immediate side effects like nausea and vomiting already have fairly good medications to counter the adverse experience of treatment. The other symptoms such as fatigability still need much work (put another way, this is something the patient has to deal with). The best demonstration of the treatment working would be to identify some of the symptoms before.
The cancer caused a stricture on her Colon and she needed a Colonoscopy Bag..and there were little cancer cells EVERYWHERE..both intestines, liver, pancrease, stomach, entire abdomenal wall.
Her doctor said she should do Carboplatin..but Pallative said she has had no quality of life and with our without it she has 6 months. Her oncologist will not discuss her live expectancy.
Do not know what to do. She has been so sick I just want to see her in no pain.

Mom also has survived cancer, and triple bypass, and has diabetes. What is the life expectancy once you reach the final stages of copd? Hello - I am sorry to hear about your mother in law. My grandfather (on my mom's side) was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1980. He was 62 at the time. When they operated on the colon, they discover mets to the liver, but it was too late to operate on the liver.
So, they did chemo a couple of times, I believe. He ended up very weak and down with nausea, much like your mother in law. (since I was a kid at the time, I cannot tell you from memory how much was achieved with the chemo alone).
