Avatar m tn Only her doctor can give you an idea of what her life expectancy is. For me, I think it's about quality of life. I don't know if I'd put her through radiation at her age. This is a very personal thing, but I feel very strongly about this. I've known many much younger people who endured all the chemo and radiation for cancer, only to still die from the cancer. So what life they had left was spent being miserably sick. It's a big decision for you. Take care....
Avatar f tn I believe each person is different. But, if you have been diagnosed with cancer it is important to start treatment as soon as possible to stop progression of the disease, it can only get worse not better. And survival depends on many factors such as, the stage, the grade of the cancer cells (1, 2, 3.....

Avatar n tn My father was just diagnosed with Stage IV non small cell lung cancer. It has spread to the lymph nodes on the right side and to his right adreanal gland. He has yet to start treatments. He's 55 years old and a smoker. His general health other than this cancer is good. What is the life expectancy if he doesn't do treatment vs. having treatment.
Avatar n tn Hi, The chemotherapy would have immediate and delayed effects. Some of the immediate side effects like nausea and vomiting already have fairly good medications to counter the adverse experience of treatment. The other symptoms such as fatigability still need much work (put another way, this is something the patient has to deal with). The best demonstration of the treatment working would be to identify some of the symptoms before.

Her doctor said she should do Carboplatin..but Pallative said she has had no quality of life and with our without it she has 6 months. Her oncologist will not discuss her live expectancy. Avatar m tn org/wiki/HIV#Prognosis quotes studies showing a life-time expectancy of as much as 50 years from infection. There is undoubtly going to be great further advances in HIV treatment in the years to come. And some scientists haven't even given up on finding a functional cure or even drugs that would allow full erradication of HIV from the body.
Avatar n tn It is not possible to put a time on someones life with heart disease. With illnesses like cancer it can be a bit easier in some cases. Research is continuing into heart disease day after day and new discoveries are being found all the time. It was only recently for example that a gene was discovered that is a culprit for causing heart disease. This gene was found in dogs, and was then found to exist the same in humans.

Grandmother with breast cancer at 94, mother with colon cancer at age 73, uncle lung cancer, uncle stomach cancer, aunt with colon cancer, great aunt leukemia. These are all on maternal side. Brother now with prostate cancer at age 55 and me with stage 1b clear cell ovarian cancer at age 55 (no sign of disease now). I realize with older people and cancer, the docs have always told me, well they were just old enough.
Avatar n tn Hello - I am sorry to hear about your mother in law. My grandfather (on my mom's side) was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1980. He was 62 at the time. When they operated on the colon, they discover mets to the liver, but it was too late to operate on the liver. So, they did chemo a couple of times, I believe. He ended up very weak and down with nausea, much like your mother in law. (since I was a kid at the time, I cannot tell you from memory how much was achieved with the chemo alone).

Avatar f tn Does anyone know what is the life expectancy of someone who has chronic hepatitis B?
Avatar f tn Some people develop liver damage faster and others may go through life with little liver damage. Therefore there is no way to estimate life expectancy after being diagnosed and treated. Most of us on the forum are in our 40s, 50s,and 60s. Many of us, if not most of us, have had Hep C for decades, since the 1970s. We were diagnosed at all different ages. I am 66. I was diagnosed in July 2011.
612551 tn?1450022175 The surgeon believe all the cancer was removed but prescribed Chemo to fight any unseen cancer. That Chemo lasted about 6 months (don't recall) and my wife was "cancer free" for about another 1.5 years. During a routine CT checkup with her Oncologist lung nodules were found about 6 months ago - so she went back into Chemo treatment.
